I currently take Valtrex for cold sore outbreaks, 2 pills at first sign, then 2 pills 12 hours later. Right now I'm traveling overseas and feel an outbreak coming on. Unfortunately, I only have 2 Valtrex pills left, and I'm having a hard time reaching my doctor back home to renew this prescription (there are no refills left on this one.) I did take the first dose of Valtrex, thinking I had 12 hours to reach my dr and have the rx called in, however I haven't been able to reach him.
I had unprotected sex 3 weeks ago. I noticed redness on the folds of my genitals, started to bleed. I ran to my pcp. He examined me, told me it wasn't herpes, a bacteria infection. He gave me cream. If he told me it wasn't herpes, why did he give me an rx for valtrex with it? That night my lower back started to hurt, my head has been hurting for days. I won't take the valtrex until my gyno sees me and confirms it's herpes. Sadly, I'm thinking it is herpes.

So i have Genital Herpes :-( I'm currently in mist of my second outbreak WHICH HURTS!!! I have more lesions than my first outbreak and really need to figure out if there is any relief during this time. Is Valtrex worth going on? I am still under my parents insurance and I'm DEF not ready for them to find out. I haven't even told ANY of my friends. I know that Valtrex is expensive and I was wondering if any of you take it, and if so how much difference does it make?
ask him what if he has HSV-1 or HSV-2 you you were infected and would start to have symptoms they would be blisters,leisions,swollen lymphs etc some people dont show symptoms at all even if they are infected or may show them years later better post your question in the herpes coumunity grace will help you with better answares
You never ever have to treat your herpes - it only helps to speed healing when you treat it.
I encourage you to go and be seen again and get examined again. You should also be tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too. Both can be going on too and helping to prolong healing.
Your lesion culture was hsv1+ so you know you have hsv1 genitally. Had you received oral sex anytime within the last 3 weeks of your symptoms starting?
For most of my life I got Valtrex from a long time on and off again girl friend. We believe we contracted it together. She got diagnosed and would get the prescription and then split it with me.
About 2 years ago she left to a foreign county so I could no longer take Valtrex as a treatment. I am have been very vehamint about not getting tested because I believe you get put into a database.

I took it and after a year stopped then no more outbreaks but once in 2 years. My outbreak were extremely severe for the first year but Valtrex nixed it good. That and good self care.
My doc actually gave me Valtrex and antibioticsI did have the magic mouthwash also. I think the Valtrex helped the sore spots in my throat some, could have been the antibiotics. I also suffered from fever blisters. Couldnt eat a whole lot! Very painful! Good news is it does go away but unfortunately took me a couple months.
I am frustrated with the frequency of outbreaks, they happen every month right after my menstrual cycle ends. i have rx for valtrex 2x day for 10 days for when i get outbreaks but the last outbreak was in a different place, it was a blister on one side of my vagina. i didn't get valtrex, i applied abreva because my doctor said i could. Is it too late to go for blood test to find out when i was infected with HSV2?
Is it possible for my partner to become infected through unprotected oral sex or vaginal sex when there are no symptoms present? Would Rx therapy be helpful? I take Lysine+, Echinacea, Zinc, Selenium, Vit D3 and a variety of other vitimin supplements daily. Your comments will be deeply appreciated.
he suggested a herpes test and gave me Valtrex for 5 days. 5 days later the lab results came back, was diagnosed with staph and strep infections, stopted taking Valtrex, started Levaquin (antibiotic) for 10 days - just finished.
to my shock and surprise, i was tested negative for oral herpes and positive for genetal

t see anything but said since I was on the Antibiotics it would have cleared up anything sinus infection related. Then he gave me a Rx for Prednidsone and Valtrex! The Prednisone was for inflammation and the Valtrex for my nerves?? which he said could have been triggered by the dental work? I am a health care provider who USED to write Rx for Valtrex, but watching the unethical behavior of GSK in their drive to keep the prices up high, how they treat their sales staff and the unreasonable drug costs for the last several years I have been a devoted writer of generic Acyclovir.
I am CONVINCED that GSK has everything to do with a sudden shortage of acyclovir and the pressure on generic manufacturers to stop producing....

In the past 8 months I've gotten ALOT more than usual so now I think I'm super sesitive about it and paranoid too. I've had HSV-1 for 12 years now and I have never been as freaked out about it as I have been lately. Maybe I'm just worried about transmiting it to my loved ones.
My partner was tested too for a spot that showed up on his penis a week later at the base, they were unable to culture it due to healing (took 4 days to get in to the doctor) but did blood test him which showed HSV 1 only and no other STDs. They gave him Valtrex too! After he started Valtrex he broke into the same lesions but not as bad as me. Same symptoms, no clear fluid or popping blisters.
The hypothesis we thought of is I gave staph to him.
As for medications there are a whole list of them out there. The common one being Acyclovir or Valtrex...among many others. You need to see a provider again, have proper testing done, and then they can give you a Rx of the medicine they feel you should take.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
