One week ago I suddenly experienced hearing loss and facial numbness on the right side of my head. I was sent for an MRI with contrast to check for acoustic neuroma. The test was negative and I still have no hearing and I still have the numbness. My physician is scratching his head as my symptoms don't fit other disorders. Any ideas? Thanks!
At times the tingling turns into a burning sensation and numbness. I was sent to a neurologist. I had MIRs on my head and upper spine and they both came back fine. The symptoms appear to get worse in the evening and I have had a couple of nights with an upset stomach and hot flashes. Reflexes are normal to slightly diminished and there are no balance issues. There are no vision problems and with the normal MIRs they do not believe it is MS.
I've had herpes for a while but have never felt this before. I have numbness/tingling throughout my entire left side from shoulder to foot. I don't have an outbreak. It's been like this for 2 weeks now. I've been taking Valtrex but I'm beginning to feel nauseous and dizzy and unsteady. I've had tingling before an outbreak but it only lasts a couple of days. This is lasting too long and don't know what to do. Any advice.
Two or so weeks ago I had a swollen vaginal gland and was treated with antibiotics and when I went back for a follow up visit to the gynecologist she said all was fine. I am taking valtrex since my primary doctor thought I had shingles but now with the blood test she is not so sure. She said she will have more information in a day or two about the blood test and that will tell her more regarding what type of herpes I have and when I was exposed.
Within several days of the event, I had flu-like symptoms - night sweats, swollen glands, low grade fevers, facial tingling/numbness, fatigue. This lasted for about a 10 days. I have had 3 negative HIV tests (NAAT and PCR and antigen). I have been told these are conclusive. I was treated for gonorrhea and chlamydia within 10 days of exposure with rocefin shot and 2 grams of azithro (at the same time I might add).
38 yr fem w/3 sex partners ever. Neg for HSV1/HSV2 in 2009 IGG, no sex since. 3/29 oral sex (performed on me) and a lot of genital/genital rubbing with a man who I later found out has HSV1 & HSV2. No intercourse,no sores, lesions but was dark.
Cold that night/few days later convinced I had herpes. Slight burning in perineum/headaches/fatigue/ muscle aches/shooting pain in left buttock. Been on internet for last 3 days! Burning perineum more w/sitting.Epsom salt baths helped.
3 weeks ago I started feeling really ill, I got a very sore throat with swollen glands in my throat, headaches, etc.. a week later i got a cold sore. I was prescribed a two day dosage of valtrex and it went away, but my sore throat never did, this past week i have been freaking out about genital hsv1 because my lymph nodes in my groin were tender, i had pain/ numbness in my left leg from my butt to my knee, but so far no blister, no painful urination, no tingling in vaginal area.....
No, a urine PCR wouldn't show herpes.
You don't need another IgG for hsv2. Your 20 week test is conclusive.
I don't know how else to say this - if you want to find out if it's genital herpes, the only way to do this is to go off the Valtrex and see if you get an outbreak. Valtrex doesn't do anything except help prevent outbreaks and shedding. It doesn't help prodomal symptoms, so staying on it isn't helping you.
I have tingling in my fingers after taking a Valtrex (500 mg). I also experience tingling in the genital area where my ob happened. I noticed that someone else mentioned this. I had vaginal rejuvenation over a year ago and that took a long time for the numbness to go away. My nerves seems to be sensitive.
My first OB with HSV-2 was in August.

No blisters, sores, etc.
Since then, I have had a lot of random nerve pain around my head and also numbness in my face from time to time. My question is, is it possible for herpes to aggrivate the nervous system and cause pain and numbness even though there are no sores? Could I be having some sort of complications due to the infection? I have had a MRI, lots of blood work and seen many docs. Most dont think that my problem is related but I seem to think that it is.
With every outbreak I always took the anti-viral Valtrex which certainly shortened and helped the episodes. This past March, 2008, I had another outbreak in the same area. Unfortunately I didn't take the Valtrex and ended up suffering with the virus much longer. Now, just about a week ago, I've started to feel tingling and slight numbness in my lower legs and feet.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:

Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
