Yes, apparently my sophmore year of HS i caught mono (EBV) like most American high school students. The virus then laid dormant for a few years until my immune system took a hit and it reactivated. tired all the time. My doc put me on Valtrex to fight the EBV, and i have been taking it rfor a week and my lymph nodes are shrunken and i have waay more energy than i remember having in a long long time. try Valtrex, if u have insurance. with out it, it costs more than $500.

After reading answers to similar questions on MedHelp I'm not sure he is asking me to do the right thing? Please help me if you can regarding this situation. It looks to me like the specific tests are negative and the IgM is inconclusive and often unreliable accordingly. Do you agree or do I have HSV?
They immediately told me that I had herpes. She came back and told me that I had gotten mono. My immune system was very low and I was very weak. My boyfriend at the time was the only guy I have ever been with and he said he was clean, however he could be lying. Need to say, three months after my last encounter with him, I got a type specific igg blood test. It came back positive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2.

You have put some of my mind at ease during this very stressful time. They did say my sore throat was due to mono but I am just curious about my genital issues.
When I had mono, I was sleeping approximately 20 hours of the day. Ever since then, I feel like my body has never been the same. I am currently 29 yrs old (female). Everyday I am very fatigued (it has been over 10 years). Sleep and exercise does not seem to help. TO be honest, I often feel more exhausted after excercise, which is frustrating. Also, I generally get over eight hours of sleep each night, usually around 9 hours. I typcially feel like I have to push through the day.
So, about 7 years ago I was diagnosed with mono at the age of 26. My levels of antibodies for EBV were off the charts high and remained that way even a year or so after (stopped testing at that point after I had a biopsy of the enlarged lymph node to rule out lymphoma that brought me to the doctor where they discovered mono in the first place ).
Anyway, fast forward now - I just had a baby 4.
Six weeks later, tested again, igm+, igg-. My Dr immediately put me on valtrex, but I only took it for about a month and stopped. I've been off it for a month or more and still, no symptoms of herpes outbreaks, etc. However, I have had some mild pain in the left-side of my abdomen. It was never anything 'bad' so I never mentioned it to my Dr. But, the discomfort/mild-pains have become more frequent (ie.

When I was diagnosed I was prescribed valtrex 1Gram pill 2 times daily 10 days with a refill. At the end of day 10 I still feel abnormal. I have bumps where there weren't bumps. I refilled the meds and continued on my own accord but how long should I be having symptoms with antivirals?
She never had flare-ups (was on Valtrex). At the end of the relationship, I got tested (IgG and IgM) and tested negative.
Fast forward to now (over 18 months past the last possible date of infection) and I had another test. This time, I tested negative for IgG and positive (2.02) for IgM. I've never shown any signs/symptoms of outbreak.
My doctor put me on Valtrex and told me to get another test in three months. The prospect of waiting that long has me pretty freaked out.
two days ago the same type of thing happened to me --- high fever, sore throat, white/yellow patches, and tests for strep and mono came back negative (as they did last time) -- there is no sore yet, but I am taking valtrex because i am paranoid and trying to prevent something from happening.
Do you think these "episodes" with the fever, sore throat, patches, could be a result of tonsillitis which is causes by the herpes i may or may not have?
7 degrees--so technically not a fever, but I did take acetominophen regularly to keep it down. after a few days of symptoms my doctor perscribed valtrex and nystatin, and after three days of taking each, my symptoms cleared--except for bright red dots on the anterior/ tip of the tongue--doctors say these are inflammed papules, and my tongue feels like its been mildly scalded. During my initial symptoms I also had what I would call persistent night sweats. Thankfully these symptoms cleared.
So same thing happened subscribed me valtrex and flagyl( for the infection), but it seemed like this one was more painful this time. They also did another vaginal swab and that came back negative again, so they said to go get the blood test done but that came back negative too. Fast forward again to now (3months later) about a month ago i had the same symptoms but no vaginal sores so my Dr.
I had Mono a few years ago and 10 months ago the virus became reactivated and my numbers continue to rise. I am now unable to function daily and have been forced to drop out of college. Easily being worn down, body aches, and lack of energy are the biggest issues I am facing. I am wondering what has helped others in the past, my doctor suggested more rest and hydration. My research online has shown some experimental treatments but nothing that is proven to work. I would appreciate any support.
recommended I wait and see what happens before deciding to take a daily suppressive medicine such as Valtrex or Acyclovir. This past Monday, I had protected vaginal sex with my boyfriend for the first time since my diagnosis. At this point, I had finished my initial round of Valtrex and felt as though I should be taking a daily suppressive - just to be safe.
so did you get diagnosed with acute EBV mono ? This would mean a positive blood test result for EBV igM antibodies (igM antibodies indicate a current infection).
If you were negative for igM but positive for iGg, it just means you have had contracted EBV at some point in the past. This isnt very useful, as most people (said to be 95% by age 30) have contracted EBV at some stage in their lives.
I have experienced classic symptoms for Mono, which I know is in the herpes family. I also found out that Mono can uncommonly affect the genital region. If I test positive for Mono could my herpes test have picked up on traces of the herpes strain that causes Mono and cause a false diagnosis of HSV??
Any insight would be helpful.
Sorry so long, but a little history helps... :-) AND these boards have really helped me through the past few weeks.
PS- In case it matters even though—I had a serve case of mono a little over a month ago, during that time, with my weakened immune system I had an HSV-1 outbreak. I was also on my period, which makes me nervous that I could have touched a cold sore and given myself HSV-2??? I pray to God that is not happening. Does this situation sound like HSV-2 at all?? I don’t think it does but I am nervous because I have no answers.
