Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex manufacturer

valtrex

Avatar n tn Pretty interesting that this shortage happens just as Valtrex is going off of patent. Maybe they are gearing up to move everyone to generic Valtrex which I am sure will have a greater profit margin than acyclovir. I would hate to think that the drug companies are going to try to force people into a more expensive option but it wouldn't surprise me. I know there are people here that are more "plugged in" to this industry/topic than I am. Do you have any thoughts?
Avatar n tn But now that I am seeing someone and want to have sex, I took my first dose of Valtrex, which my doctor has prescribed in a 500 milligram daily dose. I want to take anti-virals to reduce transmission risk, and I will practice safe sex with condom use. Do all anti-virals reduce transmission risk, or is Valtrex the only one as is claimed by the manufacturer? Do I risk damage to my kidneys if I take this drug at a 500 milligram dose daily for long term use and is it effective long term?
Avatar f tn s office - mn gastro just called to say that Target/Triessent cannot supply this med as the manufacturer does not have it. I am terrified - need the procrit to complete last 12 weeks of tx -- can anyone help me out with this?
Avatar f tn How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?
Avatar f tn So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
Avatar n tn I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
Avatar m tn I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
127596 tn?1210922622 Instead I found an empty bottle of Valtrex, prescribed to her. Needless to say, there was no way in hell I was going to use any toothbrush in there. Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly.
Avatar n tn What is the possibility of being immune to Valtrex? Is there a possibility that after taking Valtrex daily that in a couple years it may no longer be effective?
Avatar n tn my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
Avatar f tn How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Avatar f tn Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you: 1.
Avatar n tn Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
1628163 tn?1299535389 She put me on valtrex it seems like the valtrex shortened the outbreaks but i have tingling every day and i dont know why. and I still have outbreaks, so why is this?
Avatar f tn OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Avatar f tn Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else
Avatar m tn Thanks Teak It was taken in Hong Kong but test description only says-Hiv1/2 Ag/Ab (by CMIA), hence I wished to enquire about manufacturer. Not sure if any one other than Abbott manufactures 4th generation CMIA test The test was done from old and well known lab prescribed by my doctor.
Avatar n tn Can changing the manufacturer on your medicine cause them to lose effectiveness or how they are making you feel? Our insurance changed, and when it did I had to go to mail order meds. Since I've had to change, I have been struggling with my moods like I did before medication. (not quite as severe, but it's been a few years since my moods have taken such a severe dive) Any advice or thoughts would be so welcomed. I cannot handle feeling like this much longer.............
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
Avatar n tn Actually Grace is spot on about the dosing; even on the GlaxoSmithKline Website (manufacturer of Valtrex), the correct dosing for the initial episode of genital herpes is 1 gram twice daily for 10 days. If your question is, can you get genital herpes via oral sex, the answer is very much yes. How were you diagnosed as having herpes? You didn't mention it.
Avatar m tn Valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does. http://racoon.com/herpes/v_a_compare.
Avatar f tn If so, what manufacturer makes it? Muscle weakness from Baclofen has been very difficult for me and I am injuring muscles more. In the past, Northstar and Upsher made pills that didn't weaken the muscles as much, but then they changed the formula. Now they weaken muscles far more. Or if you take Baclofen from another manufacturer that does cause significant weakness, tell me which one that is.
Avatar f tn The problem comes in when pharmacies buy from different manufacturers. They changed the manufacturer of my T3 med, once and I went downhill in a hurry. I had tell them, which manufacturer I will accept T3 med from, so they flagged my account accordingly. As MichyDevon said, each manufacturer uses different fillers/binders to which you could react adversely. If you find one that you do well on, there shouldn't be any reason not to take it, so long as your doctor is okay with it.
