Valtrex is usually for herpes infections and they usually just treat gbs with IV antibiotics when you're in labor so idk id call them back and ask why they gave you that?

Hi, I read that Valtrex prevents herpes replication. Would this medicine have any use in preventing possible infection of the ganglion? For instance, lets say you take Valtrex before or right after a sexual encounter or possible exposure. Would the medicine stop the replication of the virus inside your skin/body and prevent it from taking up a permanent home inside the ganglion?

I am now 36.5 weeks pregnant and just started to take generic valtrex for suppression for delivery just to be extra safe and cautious. What is the earliest time I can stop taking it so I can start breastfeeding my newborn? I do not want him to drink valtrex! Also, is it completely necessary to take it since I have not seen any recurrent outbreaks?

I would really appreciate any comments. I got oral HSV 1 from kissing and the burning, redness, swelling symptoms on my tongue & lips have continued for over 2 months despite being on Valtrex (Valaciclovir) continuously. Has anyone else had this experience? I can only think that as I have Cystic Fibrosis and my immune system is busy with other infections that it can't push the HSV into its latent state???

another concern is that the packet that came from the pharmacy with the prescription specifically names one of the antibiotics that i have been taking intravenously for the past few weeks as something not to take with valtrex as it may cause serious kidney damage. i just stopped taking the iv med 1 day before i started taking valtrex. should i be concerned about that? and shouldnt the dr have paid attention to that risk?

What is the maximum suppression dosage for Valtrex? One doctor told me it was 1 gram daily, but my current doctor prescribed 2 per day and said that was ok to take as long as needed. He said in an immune-compromised patient, it could be 3 grams per day as needed, but no longer-term studies have been done about it to determine the upper-limit of the max safe long-term dose. Is this the consensus opinion?

How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?

So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?

My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.

I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?

If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. She put me on valtrex it seems like the valtrex shortened the outbreaks but i have tingling every day and i dont know why. and I still have outbreaks, so why is this?

OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).

Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else

I am normally a fit and healthy, monogamous 26 year old female, but recently fell ill and was administered IV antibiotics for about a week. One week after stopping treatment, I developed several (as in more than 5) canker sores in my mouth, on the tongue, roof, and inner bottom lip. I also developed a severe bladder infection.

Sounds like shingles which needs to be treated with a medicine called valtrex . If she cant be seen soon by her primary doctor then go to er or walk in clinic.

However, I am currently just over 34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby, and only recently (within the last month or so) learned of the dangers of neonatal herpes. To say it has had me concerned is an understatement!

Approx 20 days ago my infectious disease doc put me in a daily valtrex suppression therapy. Three days ago I began with another terrible outbreak on my tonsils and more so on the back of my throat. I can barely swallow, am in an incredible amount of pain and have a lot of what looks exactly like you’d think a herpes lesion does. I went to my pcp (as my infectious disease doc was out this week) and she gave me 100 mg IV solumedrol and increased my valtrex to 1 G two times daily.
