I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
Then I took no more Valtrex until the 8th month after the first test. I had developed chronic itching facial and vaginal itching so I was prescribed suppressive Valtrex for a year. I was retested at 19 months. The igGs were negative. I was tested at 22 months, the igGs were negative. I stopped taking Valtrex. They are thinking I have another condition and should not get tested again for HSV unless I have a blister to be tested which I have not. What do you think?
t cause itching, unless there are obvious visible herpes lesions (blisters that can become open sores then scabs). And if the itching were due to herpes, the Valtrex would have cleared up the itch within a few days. So whether or not you had herpes to start, it is not the cause of your itching at this time.
If you would like to say more about your symptoms, what lab tests you had, and so on, I might be able to better judge whether the diagnosis of HSV2 was correct.
After 6 months on suppressive therapy, I was having constant vaginal itching and redness. My OB changed my valtrex to 1 gm and had vaginal itching decrease but did not go away. I was prescribed a cream-triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% and it would help to relieve the itch, but it would come back a few days later. I have used the cream for 2 years off and on, until recently due to becoming pregnant. Is itching a side effect of the valtrex?
No itching whole outbreak and now that it's barely visible I"m itching like crazy. How long does this normally last and what are some good ways to make the itch go away. I tried oatmeal bath, used coconut oil and took a benadryl.
In early Jan, right after a high risk sexual encounter, I started feeling itching, stinging and burning mainly in the anogentital area. One month later I had several episodes of mild burning and pain on urination, and developed low grade fever (99.5~100.5F) everyday mostly in the afternoon, associated with fatigue and night sweating. My PCP ordered a series of test, including blood and urine culture, STD panel (syphilis, GC, chlamydia, HIV, but not herpes), all came back negative.
But I forgot to ask about my use of Valtrex. I took it when I had what could have been a mild primary episode and two or three time more times (five days of 2 xs of 500 mgs) for when I had vaginal itching over a nearly nine month period of time. I did not take suppressive therapy during that time period. Then after nearly nine months I develoved chronic itching which my health provider thought could be due to HSV. She diagnosed me based on a high IGM. The igGs were negative.

Recently I have had symptoms of what I though was a herpes outbreak (I just have tingling and light itching/doscomfort-I have never had an actual sore since the first outbreak) and took my the recommended dose 1000mg twice a day for 7 days. The symptoms did not go away, so I continued taking them for a total of 3 weeks.
I have had genital herpes for over 12 years. Very few outbreaks - due to valtrex and some...ability to deal with stress. Now that I am under more stress and fibromyalgia/asthma, I am finding that I have had more outbreaks than I would like! Valtrex does help, but what I would really be interested in is something that is topical like an ointment, oil, etc... that can be applied directly to the genitals in order to relieve the itching/burning, etc...
I still have the itching,redness,soreness,anal itching and some surface sores even though I was taking the Valtrex daily. My insurance will not cover the Valtrex so now I am taking Valacyclovir(1 gram) daily. Do I need to take it twice a day? I really can't take the constent soreness,itching and pain almost daily and need some help.
He prescribed Valtrex, and sent me home. I was not on daily Valtrex after this, so I had another outbreak (I think) about a year later. The only symptoms were that I really could not sit down for long periods of time without being uncomfortable. I had leg and butt pains as well. I could see no lesions, and had no other symptoms, but took the Valtrex anyway.
Within the past two years, I will have external itching that will last for several days, from time to time.
d try acyclovir suppressively instead of the valtrex and see if that works better for you. Even though valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug, some folks just do better on the acyclovir than they do the valtrex. My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
Had a very mild outbreak consisting of 3 small lesions on the base of penis where public hair begins. After about a week of symptoms a got diagnosed and put on 10 day course of valtrex which seemed to work. Sores went away. During the 10 days I did experience some mild itchy or tingly feelings around anus and penis, but internally like I the urethra. After about 7 days off valtrex I had a another mild outbbreak in same area, with two small lesions.
My 88 year old Mother has severe itching on her back, along with blisters. She started a Solumedrol pack this am. When can we expect relief? She can't see a dermthatologist until the 25th. She's miserable and I am frantic!
About 3 weeks after that i began having very intense itching and burninng so i again took the 3 day of valtrex bc i believed it was the beigning of another outbreak. After the 3 days of valtrex i did not feel any relief and my vagina became very sore and swollen with intense itching and burning so i went back to the doctor and she took cultures and told me it wasnt the herpes but the bacteria infection comming back out due to my weakened immune sytem from the herpes.
Prodrome symptoms will almost always be followed up by an outbreak. Just keep up the valtrex and keep an eye on it.
Well for starters, if you are still on valtrex, stop it. No reason to be taking it. Itching for 4 months absolutely is not a symptom of oral herpes. You would have clear breaks in symptoms for weeks at a time with herpes. Continue to follow up with the dermatologist for the itching. Pay attention to what is going on with your jaw too. Are you clenching it when you are awake and asleep? as your wife is you are grinding your teeth a lot in your sleep too.
Thus it was nine days into the outbreak, I gather, before I got on Valtrax and since I thought I had hemeroids on my anus I had been using my hemoroid cream (hydrocortisone) which probably made things worse. So, finally got on my Valtrex and started to feel much better, but after 10 days on Valtrex still have a lot of itchiness in my vagina and at the base of my spine (top of *** crack).
Hi everyone...glad I found this because I've been feeling quite alone recently in dealing with this.
I've been having tremendous trouble with my medication as of late. Up until recently I'd been on 500mg daily Valtrex for suppression therapy. Starting around November or December of last year I've noticed symptoms indicative of an outbreak (i.e. tingling or feeling like I'm being poked with a needle, swolen lymph nodes) but I never developed an outbreak.
I've posted on here before. I was recently diagnosed and when I was diagnosed I only have a small like sore which the doctor swabbed and came back positive. I was prescribed acycolcir and the small sore went away. A week or so after that I figured out I was having an outbreak and so I started taking the medicine and it didn't seen to help so I went in and she gave me Valtrex to take for 5 days and said my vagina looked okay and that one of the blisters looked like it was healing .
But after 12 hrs I started to have itching sensation in my inside thighs and gradually on my vulva and perineal area , so I took valtrex 1 g again and symptoms diminished after 2-3 hrs. The story repeated for another two days , Valtrex helped for 9-10 hrs and then symptoms came back. When I take Valtrex 1 g twice daily I feel fine , when I don`t symptoms are back. What is it?! I don`t want to take Valtrex 1 g twice a day for rest of my life! That is so many side effects of this drug.
I should have mentioned that I started having itching and irration when I started the Valtrex, so after 2 months on Valtrex I switched to Famir and still had itching and irrationan so I then switched to acyclovir. My doctor and I believe there is something else going on and the culture confirmed yeast which I am currently being treated for. The doctor said if it was herpes that one of those medications should have worked and I should not have itching and irratation 5 out of 7 days a week.
What sypmtoms should I look for even while on my the Valtrex 1 mg/day? Do antibiotics cause Valtrex to be ineffective. I think I may be having an outbreak now but do not see any visible signs of blisters. A couple of weird things have happened though. I started taking antibiotics for a sore throat 10 days ago and I think it turned into a yeast infection. Now I just checked and I have what appear to be little cuts along my vaginal wall opening. There are also a couple near my bottom.
I also experienced severe discomfort in my genitals (i.e. itching and tingling). I took Valtrex and the lession and discomfort went away in 5 days. A day after finishing my Valtrex (took 500mg three times a day for 5 days), a small red "bite" appeared and I'm getting itchiness and tingling again. Could all this be a recurrence of my HSV 1 or is it a primary episode of HSV 2? It seems very close in timing to be a recurrence of HSV 1 so I'm worried I contracted HSV 2.
