If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I also found a GI surgeon that wrote a paper stating that he too found a link between HS1 and IBS and that patients that took valtrex for the HS1 had a significant decrease in nausea, bloating, constipation, and diarreha. I knew that each time this blister on my lip popped out I would have all those symptoms. I just started the valtrex so hopefully I will see an improvement this month. Has anyone else saw a connection?
is valtrex the only medicine that works for genital herpes? obviously nothing can get rid of it but is that the only medicine scientifically proven to help ?
I went to my doctor told him about the ER diagnosis and he prescribed me Valtrex.. I have had monthly outbreaks since then. After about a year I asked to be "officially" tested. My blood draw returned with a negative result for HSV 1 and HSV 2. They did a redraw which was also negative. However, valtrex did help alleviate my symptoms.
the gas is not related to your herpes. You even said you had diarrhea last week so it's probably related to that plus you are on or were just recently on antibiotics which can also cause both.

if your provider thought you had a bacterial infection causing your odor, did they treat it with anything? if you still have this odor, you need to follow up on it. it's not normal and not a part of herpes infections.
After a week of not getting much relief with those suppositories, I finally went to my GP and was told I had herpes in my anus. I am now on that Valtrex for one 245 hour period. It was getting better anyway. So, my question is: where in the world did I get this and how?????
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.

OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else
Hi! I am a 44 year old female. I have no huge health issues. I take Valtrex (as needed) for cold sores, and Axert and LorTab (as needed) for migraines. Some background: On-and-off for about 10 years, I get a burning sensation on my face (right side only). It feels like a bad sunburn first, then pain. The pain goes to my nose, ear and gums to where my teeth start to feel loose. It is always on the right side. After 3 days of this I end up with a cold sore.
Valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does.

ve had facial cold sores for 44yrs, very frequent outbreaks recently- due to severe stress. Have been on Valtrex 1gm x2 for 2 yrs and recently added Acyclovir 800 x2 several weeks ago. Also taking 1000mg Lyscine. My gyn thinks that these meds would be helping if it were genital herpes, but they almost do nothing for my facial ones, in fact they've become more frequent. And have read that they simply don't work for some people.
A blood test in Nov showed pos. for hsv1, >5.
I have taking both Valtrex & Acyclovir in the past and for me, Valtrex seems to work a lot better for clearing up an ob quicker. Since moving back to the U.S. from Europe, I cannot believe how expensive Valtrex is here in the U.S.! I just want to get confirmation that there is a Generic Valtrex that is NOT Acyclovir - it that correct? My online pharmacy is offering me Valcyclovir which is a lot cheaper than Valtrex but I just want to make sure it isn't Acyclovir before I purchase it.
Since I was diagnosed with HSV 2 approximately 7 months ago, I have had constant intestinal problems. I am 62 years old, have been taking Valtrex 500 mg daily and eat well, exercise, get plenty of rest, do not smoke, drink red wine daily (1-2 glasses). I have frequent bowel movements, bloating, excessive gas, and some constipation. It is very uncomfortable. I have had several outbreaks, after the onset severe outbreak, but now the outbreaks are only unpleasant.
d try acyclovir suppressively instead of the valtrex and see if that works better for you. Even though valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug, some folks just do better on the acyclovir than they do the valtrex. My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
