valtrex

Avatar f tn Testing for shingles will not help me as I will have the antibodies for shingles as the antibodies for shingles and chicken pox are the same, and I have had chicken pox twice now so have the antibodies for life.
Avatar f tn The research I did said that If you are pregnant and have never had chicken pox to stay away from someone with shingles because chicken pox can cause issues with the pregnancy and baby because chicken pox is a bodily virus unlike shingles that is only in the nerve endings.
Avatar n tn I am also 23 and I had shingles when I was 19. Its an adult form of the chicken pox and I know it hurts like hell. Unfortunately it will last for a month after you start your meds. You should see another doctor because if in fact you have shingles, it's a virus like the chicken pox, and antibotics won't do anything. You need a viral med. I was prescribed valtrex.
Avatar m tn I got a bunch of vaccines for nursing school about two weeks ago, including the chicken pox vacc. Well here we are two weeks later and I have chicken pox. I feel flu like symptoms, yesterday was the worst, joint aches. I have probably less than 50-70 pox marks, very few are crusted over, they mainly look like bug bites, some to itch. Then again this is only day 3. I got put on Acyclovir today 800mg 4 times daily.
Avatar f tn You should've gone back to the ER. I've actually had Shingles without rash at all. I also had it the first time with just the smallest start of a burning rash. The doctor took one look at it and I was told that it was a good thing I noticed this in the shower like I did. He told me that if I had waited just one day, the rash would've been more than just that isolated patch I found as soon as the water hit me. I was put on antiviral and antibiotics, which is the usual protocol.
Avatar n tn A few days ago i felt itchy on my chest so I scratched it and felt a bump and it poped and there was liquid...I didn't think anything of it. The next day I had one on my back...same thing, it poped and there was fluid...the following day I had one on my arm and I as I was sleeping, I kept scratching and i felt more a few more appear....I only have a few, not alot around my body...
Avatar f tn Shingles is caused from the same virus as chicken pox. Those who have never had chicken pox can get them if exposed to your shingles. Make sure to keep your hand clean after touching it. As with all viruses there is really no cure. Shingles can be brought on by stress. It's the Varcella virus and once you got the chicken pox, the vrus hid in your body dormant. It waits for a time when your defenses are weakened, like in times of stress. Then it comes out in the form of shingles.
Avatar f tn Also, 95% of the US population over the age of 45 are positive for having had chicken pox and a very large percent have had mono, so that has nothing to do with the acquistion of genital herpes and does not predispose one to getting herpes. I do agree that there are good dating websites for people who have herpes if that's the route you chose. Just have to stick to the science so we keep it on the up and up!
Avatar f tn In july, I got an eye infection cause I slept with contacts lenses for about six months with out taking them off, I was diagnosed with having either chicken pox in the eye or herpes in the eye, they werent sure, the docs priscribe valtrex and eye drops, my eye cleared and conrea was perfect. I just did a blood work and hsv 1 was negative >500 and my hsv 2 was positive 1.11, doc used the iGg test, he told me not to worry and want to retest in 3 weeks time.
Avatar m tn no, chicken pox is herpes zoster. cold sores are herpes simplex. 2 totally different viruses.
Avatar n tn m in college at the moment one of the other girls came in and said her little girl has chicken pox so she can carry it in here. I have had chicken pox when I was a child but I'm worried I could get shingles or something because she can carry it! Is there any truth to this?
Avatar f tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do because the Concerta is helping my ADD, but I also believe it at least played a part in my shingles outbreak.
Avatar n tn Not on my face or back just chest and arms. Could this be4 chicken pox. I just found out my niesce has chicken pox but she has them everywhere all over her body. I only have about 15 spots she has bout 200. Would chicken pox hurt d baby at 32 weeks pregnant.

Avatar f tn It is rare for someone whose already been exposed to chicken pox to develop it again but it can happen. Also, pregnant women are more susceptible to diseases and therefore you *SHOULD* take precautions around someone who has chicken pox. Don't touch their sores (use a cotton ball to apply the medication) and wash your hands often.
Avatar f tn I'm 20 weeks pregnant, today I was exposed to chicken pox. I have already had them as a child. Should I be concerned?
3112100 tn?1379614659 Call your Dr ASAP if you've never had chicken pox. It's not good for baby. They can do blood work and see if you're immune or not!
Avatar n tn He increased my Valtrex to 1Gm twice a day for 10 more days. He DID say the sores on my back appeared to be Chicken Pox, so I am really hoping for some odd reason I have chicken pox that decided to attack my genitals and back LOL! But am prepared for the worst diagnosis and my boyfriend is waiting to test until after my results come in. I will let you know the results as soon as I have them.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 33 years old and planning for my first baby. i have not have chicken pox and measles. i have taken the chicken pox vaccination in 1999 & also the MMR vaccination some time ago (but my doctor does not have the record of that). I have a few questions: - do i need to take the 2 vaccinations before i get pregnant or is it safe to go ahead with planning without getting the 2 vaccinations??
Avatar f tn I highly doubt that you would test positive for herpes because you've had chicken pox, cause then literally everyone would be positive for herpes. I've had chicken pox and never tested positive, and I agree with the other posts you should Def tell the babies dad.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments. I have been taking lysine but not consistently, so I will certainly keep up on that. Mostly I want to be sure this is herpes. From the pictures I've looked at on the Internet, the sores most resemble eczema herpeticum and chicken pox. I'm frustrated that I can't get it under control. I'm 37 and work around others quite closely so I want to be responsible about how contagious I am and when I am the most contagious.

768015 tn?1333652075 Ok so my doctor just called to give me the results of my bloodwork that I took one month ago. She said I tested postive for CHICKEN POX!?! What the....!!!! I had the chicken pox when I was younger and honestly I feel fine right now. I couldn't believe it when she told me and she said it could be devestating to my baby. I am freaking out!! She asked if I've had flu like symptoms or spots. No I haven't.
Avatar m tn Hello, The antiviral drug Acyclovir that you have been prescribed is usually done by doctors for chicken pox because it is a viral infection. Because chickenpox is a viral disease, antibiotics are ineffective. Antibiotics may be prescribed if the blisters become infected. Calamine lotion helps to reduce itchiness. You can apply that also. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn i have been suffering from chicken pox for 2 weeks .
