Valtrex dosage outbreak

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex dosage outbreak

valtrex

Avatar f tn Also, does Valtrex or Lysine cause yeast? Can too much Lysine cause an outbreak? If 500 mg of Valtrex reduces transmission by 50%, then does 1 mg per day suppressive reduce it more? I have HSV2.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I was diagnosed with hsv-2 about 5 years ago and since has been on 500mg valtrex daily. I have never had an outbreak since. Because I am doing so good my doctor has offered I cut down to 250-mg a daily. In all of the literature on Valtrex I have never read of 250mg daily, it's always 500mg. My concern is my partner who's hsv negative. Will he be at higher risk? My doctor seems to think no considering I have no outbreaks, been on valtrex 5 years, and my age (50).
Avatar m tn Anyone know anything about the dosage I was given and if it will be effective? Is the dosage maybe different because I am having an active outbreak instead of preventing a cold sore from popping up in its very early stages? I am also breastfeeding my baby, so maybe the other dosage would be too high? I'm so confused...
Avatar f tn I have been taking different doses of Acyclovir over the past 2 months to get control of the virus and it gets better but does not go away completely. Should I switch meds? Would it be harmful to just increase the dosage of Acyclovir for a longer period as it's recommended for just 10 days.
Avatar m tn Hi! I was diagnosed with a culture and blood test. I'm doing so much research trying to find something that can keep the virus dormant or a cure. I'm trying a holistic approach from a doctor in Mexico. It's a far chance but I'm willing to do anything at this point. I'm seeing someone who knows about my diagnosis and he is actually staying with me. We have yet to have any sexual relations because we are both scared. I don't want to hurt him in any way.
Avatar n tn I went in to get the sores looked at and they diagnosed me with Simplex 1 in my genital area. They put me on 2 grams of Valtrex every 12 hours right away to clear the initial outbreak, so I'm just waiting to see when they clear up. He then told me to stop taking the meds until I feel another outbreak coming on. If a pattern occurs, he suggested going on supressive regiment of the Valtrex. Is Valtrex your recommended medication for Simplex 1?
Avatar m tn I was recently prescribed Valtrex/acyclovir for a possible hsv 2 genital outbreak (1 gram every twelve hrs). The results were negative, but I was advised to continue taking the meds until they were gone. I previously was exposed to hsv1 which I rarely have symptoms aside from the occasional fever blister. Shortly after starting the meds i noticed that I had signs of an oral outbreak. I've asked and dr say that the medicine didnt cause it.
Avatar f tn If you had your first outbreak on feb. When did you get tested? Valtrex is a good medicine to take daily to prevent your partner from catching herpes, always use condoms, and don't have sex if you feeling a outbreak is coming. Valtrex and condoms will reduced your partner from getting herpes. Usually you will have fewer outbreak as you get older. And for your question about how many dose to take, let grace answer that.
Avatar m tn I spent 5 days on 400mg of acyclovir 3 times a day, 5 days on 800mg of acyclovir 5 times a day, 5 days on 1g Valtrex 3 times a day and 4 days on 1g Valtrex twice a day. Before increasing back to 3 times a day Saturday today is Monday I'm still on 1g Valtrex 3 times a day and I'm visiting Mt doctor again for a full checkup. I'm really convinced all these symptoms are due to the hsv1, including the discharge.
Avatar f tn I took one Acyclovir pill that day then twice a day for about 3-4 days, not sure of the dosage, but the outbreak seemed to be going away, then today I felt the pain again. The outbreak is still there but much smaller. I did miss a couple of days I asked my doctor to prescribe Valtrex, she did, so I will start taking that today twice a day for 3 days. Any thoughts or experiences like this?
Avatar f tn I was given a 10 day supply of acylovir and sent on my way. After about a month, I had another outbreak. I went to my doctor told him about the ER diagnosis and he prescribed me Valtrex.. I have had monthly outbreaks since then. After about a year I asked to be "officially" tested. My blood draw returned with a negative result for HSV 1 and HSV 2. They did a redraw which was also negative. However, valtrex did help alleviate my symptoms.
Avatar f tn s I was getting outbreaks twice in a month or every month so I was prescribed 1gm of valtrex daily dosage. which would help for the most part and brought my outbreaks down to none or once a year again. but recently I have been getting outbreaks once a month it started out as fever blisters every month now this month I have a cold sore. I am at my wit's end and did everything to prevent an outbreak. I took two valtrex, three lysine and applied abreva.
Avatar m tn I was first diagnosed with genital herpes on 02/19/13 I was having my first outbreak it was just at the base of my penis exactly where my penis starts and my pubic area ends. I was prescribed with valacyclovir 500mg twice a day for 5 days, by the third day the scabs where dry and I had no pain so the treatment worked. Just 4 days ago I started to feel itchiness on the same area and it was a few small blisters so the next day I started again the same treatment, the same dosage.
Avatar m tn Since then I have had 2 minor outbreaks, both on my waist near the navel. I currently use Valtrex when I feel an outbreak coming on and it seems to suppress the symptoms. I'm recently in a new relationship and need to discuss with my new partner before we become sexually active, but before I do I had a couple of questions. Since my outbreaks are on the waist a condom will obviously not cover that area.
Avatar f tn OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Avatar f tn I had my first break out at that time, got a culture done (positive) was given Valtrex and a topical cream. Took the dosage of the Valtrex that my doctor provided and my outbreak went away within 3 days. Later on, (probably a week after) I got a blood test done and the iGm came back negative for both HSV1 & HSV2. My iGm test came back with HSV1 -- 2.41, and HSV2 <0.00. Which at that point further confirmed what I already knew...
Avatar f tn Hi there. I have had HSV-1 genitally for 17 years. After a few initial outbreaks, it went dormant until last year when it came back with a fury. I went on Acyclovir as a suppressant at first, but kept having OBs, so switched to Valtrex in February of this year. It worked beautifully at first. I then had a small outbreak in June that lasted 5 days. I am currently having an outbreak that began over a month ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else
Avatar n tn He prescribed Valtrex twice a day for one day, which I did but then noticed another breakout just above the one present, so I upped the dosage of the Valtrex and it went away. Then I went to see an Infectious Disease Specialist and he drew blood, and the tests came back postive for HSV-2. Is that possible considering I have had outbreaks but never on my genitals? Could there have a been a misdiagnosis between HSV-1 and HSV-2?
6709254 tn?1389303349 They gave me medicine for the teat infection and told me to start taking the dosage of my valtrex. So I did and when the doctor told me he saw nothing and I didn't see or feel anything....I thought it was over. Anyways we had sex and I used baby oil as a lube. Well a couple hours later after I got out the tub I noticed the tingly feeling again. And now i'm having the same symptoms minus the yeast infection. Today its feel worse though...and i'm all swollen.
Avatar f tn What would their outbreak be like? Does Valtrex or Lysine cause yeast? Can too much Lysine cause an outbreak? If 500 mg of Valtrex reduces transmission by 50%, then does 1 mg per day suppressive reduce it more? For 2 or 3 weeks I've felt occasional tingling on my upper lip and in the one spot that is right above my pubic bone. And the past 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I feel like my lymph node on pelvis occasionally flares up. Changed Valtrex to more of an outbreak dosage.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was recently diagnosed with genital hsv-1. My GYN cultured one of the two sores I had. She also sent me for a blood test for HSV-2 only on that same day, rather than test me for both HSV-1 and HSV-2. She started me on 500mg Valtrex 2X day for 5 days. On the day of the visit, I gave her some background that I thought was pretty relevant should I be experiencing a Herpes outbreak. Namely, I have a back condition for which I had been recently prescribed methylprednisolone.
Avatar n tn I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
Avatar f tn Sometimes there is a few days in between but mostly back to back. I tried taking Valtrex on a suppressive dosage for about 4 months, no help. I am taking a variety of supplements and vitamins that also do not seem to be assisting me to keep the outbreaks at bay. Outbreaks on buttocks and base of spine. Diagnosis confirmed by culture and blood test as well. I have seen dermatologists, a infectious disease doctor, medical doctors, and a naturopath.
