Valtrex dosage in children

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex dosage in children

valtrex

Avatar n tn s because of the differences in how much of the active medication you get in your body at a time. When you take a 500mg valtrex tablet - you get about 55% of active acyclovir that actually survives the digestive process and is available to circulate thru your body and kick a little herpes butt when it finds it ( valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug which means you swallow valtrex but the body turns it into acyclovir ).
Avatar f tn Because I am doing so good my doctor has offered I cut down to 250-mg a daily. In all of the literature on Valtrex I have never read of 250mg daily, it's always 500mg. My concern is my partner who's hsv negative. Will he be at higher risk? My doctor seems to think no considering I have no outbreaks, been on valtrex 5 years, and my age (50). Your thoughts?
Avatar m tn It seems that sine I'm getting mixed messages in eagards to Valtrex dosages during an outbreak. I currently take 500 mg of Valacyclovir daily as a suppressant. But I am still having outbreaks. When having one do I increase my dosage? I asked my doctor and she said no since it was already in my system just continue taking the 500mg daily. Also it seems since I've gotten the diagnosis, that I'm having more outbreaks, could it be I need a stronger daily dosage for suppression?
Avatar f tn What does valtrex have to do with the timeline of hiv
Avatar n tn Hi, with valtrex for first time outbreaks the recommended dosage is 1000mg twice a day for ten days.
Avatar f tn I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby. Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks. They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
Avatar f tn Also, does Valtrex or Lysine cause yeast? Can too much Lysine cause an outbreak? If 500 mg of Valtrex reduces transmission by 50%, then does 1 mg per day suppressive reduce it more? I have HSV2.
Avatar f tn I have been taking different doses of Acyclovir over the past 2 months to get control of the virus and it gets better but does not go away completely. Should I switch meds? Would it be harmful to just increase the dosage of Acyclovir for a longer period as it's recommended for just 10 days.
Avatar m tn Hi, for valtrex as below per Terri Warren: You can view this and other helpful information in her "Updated herpes handbook" Westover Hieghts web site. 1. first time outbreaks 1000 mg twice a day for ten days. 2. recurrent outbreaks 2 grams twice a day, 12 hours apart. she also advises that is no longer necessary to take this medicine for more thatn one day for greatest benefit. 3. suppression 1000 mg once a day for people who have 10 or more outbreaks per year.
127596 tn?1210922622 Instead I found an empty bottle of Valtrex, prescribed to her. Needless to say, there was no way in hell I was going to use any toothbrush in there. Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly.
Avatar m tn I recently had by second OB mid-June (about two weeks ago). This OB was much more mild, with just a few bumps. I took a 3 day dosage of valtrex, and it cleared up. However, only about a week after, I started my third OB which I am currently going through. This one has no actual sores or visible effects, but there is itching, burning, and a lot of tingling. Here are my questions: 1. Is it normal to have this many OBs with HSV-1?
Avatar m tn 3) Would even a small suppressive valtrex dosage impact test results? Do I really have to be completely off of it in order to get accurate results? I ask because I have to wait 3 months, and the Valtrex had been helping a bit so I don't know if i want to get off of it 100%.....? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar m tn What is the maximum suppression dosage for Valtrex? One doctor told me it was 1 gram daily, but my current doctor prescribed 2 per day and said that was ok to take as long as needed. He said in an immune-compromised patient, it could be 3 grams per day as needed, but no longer-term studies have been done about it to determine the upper-limit of the max safe long-term dose. Is this the consensus opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CAEBV in Feb of this year. My doctor prescribed 2g 2x/day valtrex. When I took it I couldn't move. I went from needing a rest after each activity to taking 30 minutes to figure out to move my body to the bathroom. My doc said I could reduce the dosage so I started taking 1g in the day and 2 at night. I was still very limited but could function for one activity a day and could lay in bed and read books/play games with my kids.
Avatar f tn More so with 2x daily than 1x daily dosage of Valtrex. Next month I have a regular follow up with my G. I. dr. and will mention this to him. Hope he can give me some answers.
Avatar n tn The reason is that in a small amount of cases it has caused swelling of the brain. If you look at the label on cough syrup for children, even those typically recommend for age 6 and up (at least the brands I have seen.) When my 2 1/2 year old has a cold with a cough I give him milk slightly warmed with honey in it. I have also given him a teaspoon of honey on it's own. It works extremely well.
Avatar m tn How long does valtrex stay in your system? Say you miss dosage for 2 days... do the meds linger in system for any amount of time? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Also as a fyi - valtrex will be going generic in december of this year. It should be going down in price then so if you find that taking medication 2x/day is too hard to remember - check back with your pharmacist next january to see if the price has come down a lot more for you or not with valtrex. If you've never read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com - it's free and has all the medications and their doses listed there - bookmark it for easy reference!
Avatar f tn My outbreaks are in the middle of my back and no where else. I was misdiagnosed with Shingles when this first occurred. My question is this, since my outbreaks are on my back does this mean that I shed only from that area or am I still shedding vaginally as well? I take Valtrex daily as well.
Avatar m tn the last time, I stopped 4 days before my pcr, and the time before that a week or so before the swab I stopped the valtrex. Could there still be valtrex in my system, though, making my cultures false negative? Its two weeks later and I have a similar lesion again...I'm just so tired of this problem.
Avatar m tn For Valacyclovir and Valtrex the recommended dosage is 2000mg every 12 hours...total of 4000mg in 24 hours. I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest. From what I've read this is unlikely.
