Because of my symtoms and my extreme depression the doctor agreed to put me on Valtrex before the results came back.
I stayed on it as supressive because the test results took a long time to come back almost a month. When the doctor told me it was HSV-! and not HSV-2 I went off the Valtrex and feel the symptoms returning. I should also mention I haven`t had any sexual relations of any kind for about 3 years but I do realize it can stay dormant in your body.

That same year I went on Valtrex. But not before giving it to another mad. I was told he had symptoms within a week of being with me. I had sex while on my period at the time. After that I went on valtrex. I didn't have an outbreak for a year after that.
The following years the outbreaks have increased.
The second year was ok and the third not so bad ive even convinced a daughter without complications and I have been on valtrex this entire time.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:

Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else
At the time I visited the gyno I had a tiny little sore that the doc said looked like a small cut. Once I got the results I was put on 500mg of valtrex daily for 6 months. That sore went away although not entirely. For about two weeks it still felt a little sensitive but I didn't notice anything anymore. A week before my next period the cut came back in the same spot but it grew about an inch longer. It looks like a papercut.
What sypmtoms should I look for even while on my the Valtrex 1 mg/day? Do antibiotics cause Valtrex to be ineffective. I think I may be having an outbreak now but do not see any visible signs of blisters. A couple of weird things have happened though. I started taking antibiotics for a sore throat 10 days ago and I think it turned into a yeast infection. Now I just checked and I have what appear to be little cuts along my vaginal wall opening. There are also a couple near my bottom.
On 12/16, my primary care physician diagnosed me with hsv-2 based on visual inspection. She prescribed Valtrex. The ulcers cleared in about a week. I had night sweats on 12/16. Test results from 12/16 visit - HSV- 2 IgG positive at 1.4 and HSV-1 negative 0.3. I went to a specialist who tested me again at and the results came back as HSV-2 IgG 1.10 at 9 weeks. Since the initial outbreak I have had constant redness and irritation in vaginal area.
I have had two swabs and three blood test and ALL are negative. I even tried Valtrex which may have one worked 1/6 times i took it. This situation is driving me crazy and I am not sure what to do next. Any guidance would be very appriacted as this issue has caused me severe depression and fear.
Ask your doctor if you think a round of antivirals like Valtrex could work and see if your symptoms end. Redness/itching are symptoms of herpes BUT they're also symptoms of a whole plethora of things. If HSV-1 is the cause of your symptoms, antibiotics won't work. As antibiotics only work against bacteria and HSV is a virus. I agree that you should see a dermatologist and see what they say also.

Starting feeling tired, loss of appetite, headaches (I think mostly related to depression). Went to the doctor who upon first inspection said not herpes then when I told him my lymph nodes were swollen said most likely I have herpes and put me on Valtrex. Also did a full line of blood tests, syphillis, gonnaroheah, clymidea and herpes. Everything includes the Herpes 1 & 2 came back as negative. Herpes IGG 1&2 are <0.2
What should I take from this?
Valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does.

research I feel like your more frequent outbreaks could honestly just be due to all of the **stress**/depression PLUS the antidepressants itself
