Is it ok to take more than one pill/treatment type for Herpes. I'm taking Valtrex 1 gm per day and also have started taking a pill from Herpaflor that contains Lysine, Purella Vulgaris, licorice root and vitamins A,C and zinc. I'm doing a lot of research on the internet trying to learn what other herbs I can use to help prevent an outbreak.
Is there something topical I can put on my upper lip and other areas that will prevent an outbreak from recurring there?
Have tried several medications such as Zyrtec D, Flonase, Nasonex, Xyzal....also nasal rinses, and some vitamins and herbs...nothing works for long. Today the doc decided to start testing me for allergies to try to get to the root of the fluid and swelling in my ears. Your results sound interesting. I have in the past from time to time has what I think are fever blisters around the corners of my mouth. Is there a test for Herpes simplex 1? I may mention this to my ENT next time I go there.
each one was actually very mild (not even itchy or weeping), but the fact that i had 4, when i generally get only one 99% of the time, made me wonder what i was doing wrong. for the record, i am also into vitamins and lots of antioxidants and this past week i have not been taking them as regularly as i usually do. i also exercise 2-4x a week and had only minimal exercise this week also. i thought my immune system was collapsing. does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
I then went on 500mg of valtrex and still would get outbreaks. then my dr. put me on 1gram of valtrex daily and I still will get small red bumps that itch like crazy and dont look like blisters, but I'm pretty sure they are herpes related. I take Lysine, zinc, and various other vitamins daily to try to combat the virus. Why is that some people can contract this demon and have minor issues and others like myself have to deal with it on a daily basis.
PS. He was on acyclovir for the first week.he's now on valtrex. He's been taking vitamins and we are hiking regularly. He treats the sore nightly, applying tree tea oil on it. We are out of ideas.
I am a 51 year old female with HSV-2. I have a new partner and want to protect him. He wants to have sex without a condom, but I am worried. I am one of the people that have a hard time controlling outbreaks. I have gone from being inactive sexually to active in a short time.
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
Then I got a vesicular type rash on my fingers and back of hands. I self treated with a weeks worth of Valtrex 2,000mg everyday, and it seemed to stop making more, and some got better, but I still have residual rash there too and it's been 2 weeks since I stopped the Valtrex.
but the joint pains have continued. my reg dr told me that I likely have an EBV infection going on and that I prolly had EBV. BUT I had the joint pain long BEFORE I got sick with the throat.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?

I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?

My doctor explained to me that taking Valtrex on a regimen would help the virus become dormant. I was wondering what that meant specifically in terms of my likelihood of transmitting the virus to sexual partners with or without condoms.
HSV-1 is less susceptible to Valtrex and related drugs, so the necessary dose is unknown and might be higher than for HSV-2. Also, asymptomatic shedding is less common with oral HSV-1 than genital HSV-2. Finally, the main strategy for protecting your partner probably should be for him or her to be tested for HSV-1. There is a 50-50 chance of a positive result, in which case s/he is not susceptible and you need take no precautions at all.

Since finding out I've contracted Herpes the area around my vagina has been swollen and I've also had a lot of bleeding which has been like a heavy period and lasted well over a week, nearly 2. I took Valtrex which stopped the bleeding so I assumed it was related to Herpes. But I have just finished a course of Valtrex and am bleeding again. At first I assumed it was my period but it's been heavy bleeding for a good few days now. I am also very itchy.
