Exposed to HSV 1&2 two weeks ago, been on Doxycycline for 10 days and Valtrex for 5 days. About noon yesterday, my lips started to swell, inside mouth flesh too, looks red and irritated. Is this par for herpes BO?
One note, after reading online, learned pineapple could cause some issues. I did eat pineapple about 7 AM yesterday morning and it burned like crazy, never experienced that before.

t have any outbreaks after the first one for almost 2 years, and then about once a year. My doctor prescribed Valtrex to take when I have outbreaks. Recently I have had symptoms of what I though was a herpes outbreak (I just have tingling and light itching/doscomfort-I have never had an actual sore since the first outbreak) and took my the recommended dose 1000mg twice a day for 7 days. The symptoms did not go away, so I continued taking them for a total of 3 weeks.
II with the last outbreak being almost two years ago, on the 15 Jul 08 I came out with what seemed like a penile yeast infection, I was treated with one fluconazole 150 and Lotrisone cream for 14 days, went away well, I also take Zocor for my hereditary high cholesterol.
Around the 14th August 08 I was unusually very stressed about a business deal and later had some unusual dizziness, (It was accompanied by a short bout of dry long coughs), went away quickly..
I started off having very mild but constant OB and had been taking valtrex 500mg daily for several months. I had no OB at all while on the drug. I have recently stopped valtrex and the OB appears permanent - 3 weeks minus a few 'pleaant' days somewhere in between!!
1) Is this prehaps normal because I have stopped the valtrex and if I leave it maybe it will calm down? Or should I just go straight back on my suppressive therapy?
First off I just want to say that HHH gave you a very detailed reply on his forum that I hope was helpful. I'll gladly handle the pain issues at this point :) I'm glad you went and had another work up done and got valtrex. It will take a bit longer to start working at this point but it'll help.
A sitz bath set up is easier than pouring water as you pee - depends on your coordination. Something to consider. It sounds that you really have a humdinger of an ob going on.
I guess I just want to ramble at this time since this is all I can think about and that I am still confused about primary HIV and oral thrush.
Here is a rundown of what has been happening to me so far for anyone who reads. I will update and also test results.
Days after possible exposure
Day 1:
Red spot appeared that was a bit painful on the tip of my tongue.
This was the start of my panic. Now I started to consult google, reading up everything I could find on STDs.
I found out that I was Positive for herpies 2 have had a continues outbreak going on 7 weeks. With ulcers and severe burning to my tongue and throat. I just completed nystatin for thrush and 4 weeks of valtrex. I have had no relief from the symptoms. I am also on doxycyline and havee lupus. Has anypne else experience these symptoms?

Ironically the girl who infected me (without telling me prior) told me afterwards she had no symptoms. When I asked how she knew she had herpes she said she kept getting thrush and found out about her herpes then. It is probable to me at least that her thrush may not even be thrush but burning sensation from herpes.
About 2 weeks ago i traveled to the virgin islands went to public bath and a guy from the bar had followed me and i was forced to oral sex, i felt like the licked the hell out of my vagina, after 3 days i started itching real bad, 2 days later i went to ob-gyn got tested for STDs everything was negative. I told my dr i need some treatment gave me cleocin vag ovules used that for 3 days nothing still itching.
He said he had a mild outbreak the week before and it basically cleared up that Monday but he started taking Valtrex that Monday just to be sure. I had oral sex with him that Saturday. I got the herpes select blood test done at 16 weeks post exposure and for HSV 2 my result was .18. What are my risk as far as herpes? My doctors believe that I may have an autoimmune disorder. I have been getting lesions on the sides and inside my mouth. Not quite sure if I can trust my blood test or not.
positive so I assume it is Herpes, as it looks and feels like the original and react to the Valtrex accordingly, should I still do the swab test?
7) If it gets worst, and I’m forced to do the daily therapy;
A) Would it decrease the frequency and possibly stop the outbreaks all together?
B) If I decide to stop the daily therapy for some reason, would it return and become more severe?
8) What are the chances and when does HSV 1&2 lead to serious complications please?
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
It burned and itched and I went back to the doctor and he prescribed me Valtrex and Cefdinir. Went away for a week and came back. Began with lips swelling again and then sat night into sunday it started oozing. Sunday at 7am i went to the hospital and was prescribed valtrex, prednisone, and oh gosh i'm blanking on the other antibiotic. It went away and a week later I got a cold. Then (first time this happened) I noticed a white blister on the inside of my lip.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
then i persisted him to check if it was and he got curious and asked if i suspected HIV and then he used a stick to remove few white stuff and said it might be thrush but still said it doesnt look like thrush for now or may me an initial thrush.. he gave me nyastacin for thrush.... i also have a rough sore or feeling beneath my tongue.. i have had such white patches in my child hood but never had the growths or bleeding... i am very very depressed....
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
I have just been to the gynie who did an internal and advised that my vagina looks inflamed and the discharge resembles thrush and as far as he is concerned it looks ok however I still feel itchy and uncomfortable. I mentioned the Genital Herpes and showed him the results of the test carried out and he has now taken samples to check whether it is a bacteria present that has not been detected. He has also advised that I undertake a blood test for the Genital Herpes virus.
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?

I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
