Avatar f tn 3) and have the same kind of extreme photosensitivity and facial rash. The dermatologist I went to specifically stated that this was Rosacea and also a side-effect of my skin being more permiable than most peoples because of the connective-tissue disorder. It is considered to act like an Auto-immune disorder but doesn't show up on ANA (mine is always negative when they check).
Avatar n tn There are certain conditions and diseases which cause photosensitivity from visible light, meaning certain houselights and even laptop screens can cause problems.
Avatar f tn I am thinking along the line of dermatitis, photosensitivity and autoimmune disorder. These are just differentials .You have mentioned of rash and redness over the cheek which may be a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions have varying types and this may include solar urticaria and chemical photosensitivity. Dermatographia wherein raised portions of the skin manifest after pressure may be a form of hypersensitivity reaction (much like hives) . The cause of this is not clear.
1974758 tn?1330821166 I live in florida and we had a beautiful winter and I lived like a vampire. Ispoke with my dr. on wed. about getting back outside now that I am done treatment and he said spf 50 I usually use 30 so no big deal, just to get out and walk on the beach again. But sun and treatment is not a good match.
80575 tn?1207132364 I was wearing sunscreen and sat in a car, then broke out in hives. Photosensitivity is well documented with PEG-interferon but I don't know if it last long after you stop dosing.
Avatar n tn Certain medications can cause a physical reaction which is known as photosensitivity. The consequences can range from itchiness to an uncomfortable rash, UV burns, or in extreme cases, death. The underlying cause can be those sensitve to thiazide.
Avatar m tn Help! I took my wife to the ER about a month ago because she developed "raised red "bumps" on her left eye, photosensitivity, blurry vision, and pain around the left side of her eye and down the side of her face along with nausea(maybe from pain?). They dx it as a conjunctivitis and put her on antibiotic drops and an oral antibiotic. The "bumps" and reddness subsided, but her vision is still blurry (previously 20/15, now 20/50!
Avatar n tn Hi Some people are likely to be more sensitive to heat or to sun exposure. You may be experiencing a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions involve a whole spectrum of skin conditions. Solar urticaria may present with a rash few minutes after exposure to the sun. Chemical photosensitivity may present with skin rash after application of creams and lotions coupled with sun exposure. Which one applies in your case?
Avatar f tn s been a few days now and Ifeel better and I want to resume my workout schedule. Is strenuous exercise contraindicated when taking amoxicillin? Also, is sun exposure a factor, and if so, how long after you complete the round of antibiotics should you wait before you are able to go back out in the sun?
Avatar n tn most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop. at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
Avatar f tn Could this mean i have a skin infection and need to get some stronger medicine because cortizone is not working it only stops the itch for a lil while but the bumps dont go away sometime they are raised and bumpy and other times they are flat n smooth. I dont know what to do.
Avatar m tn acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Avatar f tn I looked like a Loris, redness everywhere, especially around the eyes and forehead and face and scalp. I looked so bad I did not even go to the grocery store for weeks. The only place I went was to the dermatologist and she was quite concerned. It is finally under control now, but not totally gone. As far as the vomiting is concerned, you may want to ask your doctor for a prescription medication. I used Zofran for the nausea. I took 8 mg every 8 hours.
Avatar f tn After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks. Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side? Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
1302779 tn?1287405029 i have generic valtrex but i also have chronic migraine and i feel the valtrex gives me a headache. do u get side effects from valtrex?
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results, wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
Avatar n tn Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
Avatar m tn If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hi This sounds like a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions may range from solar urticaria to more severe reactions to UV rays. In your case, this may be solar urticaria. “Solar urticaria is an uncommon disorder sometimes difficult to treat. It is characterized by the occurrence of typical whealing reactions on exposed skin a few minutes after sun exposure. The reactions resolve 1 to 5 hours after sun exposure ceases.” Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn With more patients taking this treatment Off-label and the start of Phase 3 trials more side effects including Photosensitivity reactions may become more known as reports come in and are analyzed.
Avatar m tn My wife has had two episodes of severe sunburn with peeling lasting longer than the usual sunburn. She used to be able to stay in the sun all she wanted. She takes Simvastation( Lipitor) and Alprazolam (Xanex). It looks like photosensitivity has been reported with both. Any thought as to which is the most likely?
