valtrex

Avatar f tn Hello! I have Herpes 2. I have been on 500 milligrams of Valtrex daily for a year and a half as suppressive therapy. My gynocologist just told me that I need to stop taking it because it causes liver damage. I asked her if I could take Famir or Zovirax on a daily basis instead. She said no because all anti-virals cause liver damage. My husband does not have Herpes. I have a stressful job and frequent outbreaks, hence my interest in daily suppressive therapy.
Avatar m tn I would only take Valtrex as needed, not everyday. I took it everyday for a little over a year and now I have elevated liver enzymes which is listed as one of the side affects. My doctor told me that it's the Valtrex because my liver was perfect prior to taking it and I rarely drink. I'm hoping my liver is not permanently damaged but only inflamed.
Avatar f tn t be putting you on valtrex without blood labs as it can be tough on your liver and he should have ordered liver tests prior to putting you on the medication to see your liver function results as a baseline in case the valtrex raised certain levels of enzymes in your liver. Avatar f tn t get any outbreaks, but the downside is that Valtrex elevates my ALT readings for my liver. All of my other liver test readings are within range. My liver test that was done one year ago was perfect. My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven.
Avatar f tn Side effects with valacyclovir, including liver problems, are extremely rare. Even if Valtrex was the cause of his elevated liver enzymes, most people with mild enzyme elevations do not go on to more serious problems. Most important, stories of rare adverse effects shouldn't change anyone's treatment plan. People don't have greater risk of lightning strikes just because someone else gets struck!
1032715 tn?1315984234 Keep drinking and using and it will eventually give up. I had high readings and was hospitalised for liver damage but it eventually recovered after I stopped drinking. Worrying about it is a futile act, stick to your recovery plan, don’t drink or use and when the time comes have the necessary tests then deal with things as your doctor recommends.

Avatar f tn I had an aunt who died from liver cancer and her liver function tests were normal until the end stages. However, it is common to have cysts in the liver and fatty areas that aren't a problem. When I was dx they found a hemangioma in my liver and another cyst and there were two cysts in my kidneys. Before my surgery, I thought this must indicate cancer had spread there only to find out that most of us do have some sort of cyst congenitally or as we age. My dr.

I went into remission around 2016, when all my labs were normal. So I stopped the meds. Then, March of 2018, Graves was back with a vengeance. All the telltale signs were back, the excessive heat and heart palpitations, I went back to the doctor and back on drug treatment. This time, however, the meds doesn't work whatsoever.

She took one in the am and one in the pm for five days, and as adverse effects appeared, she cut back to one in the pm for four more days. She progressively became psychotic, experiencing altered states of consciousness, panic attacks, uncontrollable crying, tremors, and extreme fear. Blurred vision and the inability to focus were also taking place.

Avatar m tn well stopping like that might be very very dangerous. the first mistake is the use of telbivudine, it is not a first line therapy since genetic barrier is too weak and resistance can arise, if you have resistance or develop it now that youstopped drug all other dugs will respond less and develop resistance soon your feelings are about myopathy which is a side common to telbivudine but has nothing to do with the liver, it is a nervous system problem.
Avatar m tn do not indicate the amount of liver damage or how well the liver can function. ALT and AST measure enzymes that liver cells release in response to damage or disease. Since you have a low level of inflammation of the liver (2) it is possible for these levels to be within norm as your disease progresses.. Many persons with extensive liver damage (cirrhosis) can have normal LFTs until the liver is unable to function properly. (decompensated cirrhosis).
