I noticed a cold sore on my lip this morning, I took (2) grams (pills) of Valtrex on a empty stomach. I have headache, nausea, lightheaded, diarrhea, and can't function. How long will this last? when do I need to see a doctor? these are huge pills, wear off soon?
Ok the antivirals like Valtrex may be the reason i'm having loss of appetite and diarrhea. Just wanted to see if anybody else had heard about it before.
I also found a GI surgeon that wrote a paper stating that he too found a link between HS1 and IBS and that patients that took valtrex for the HS1 had a significant decrease in nausea, bloating, constipation, and diarreha. I knew that each time this blister on my lip popped out I would have all those symptoms. I just started the valtrex so hopefully I will see an improvement this month. Has anyone else saw a connection?
I tried to stop valtrex for a couple to days, then the fever came back. After resuming valtrex, the fever and diarrhea resolved the next day. I also tried increasing valtrex to 2gm twice a day, and was feeling almost completely well. I am really worrying that I have contracted disseminated, drug-resistant herpes, including ocular herpes and herpes encephalitis, and don’t know what to do. I am currently still taking Valtrex 1g twice a day, but feeling that it’s not working.
sometimes even in my feet and over all weakness. The side effects of the Valtrex seem to be diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headaches and lack of appetite. The symptoms were prevalent before beginning the Valtrex. Does this mean I was too late in starting the Valtrex or does it not help with already noticeable symptoms? and is just for suppressing symptoms before they can be noticeable? Also these symptoms have been in full force for about 3 weeks.
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
m a 74 year old female who had a bout of Herpes Zoster in April of 2007 which lasted about 3 months or more. Was put on Valtrex for about 10 days and recovered. My question is, would it be ok for me to receive the new vacine for shingles??? My primary care doctor advised me not to receive the vaccine since I already had the shingles, but I have read and heard from others that I should get the vaccine because it could return. I hope you can advise me concerning this problem.
I've had diarrhea for the past three and a half months (off and on) following a prescription of the antibiotic, Levaquin. I have not noticed any blood but do have minor abdominal and upper left stomach pains, sometimes to the point when I go to the bathroom I get chills/sweats and dizziness. When it first started I began eating Activia which helped solidify my stool but did not fix the problem.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?

Next night, was still having awful cramps and diarrhea. Called my parents in a panic, ready to go to the ER, but they said sit tight and find a dermatologist the next day.
Went to a dermatologist. He looked at it, even ripped one off, and said it was HSV. Gave me more valtrex and zovirax.
Had a followup with my primary the next day for my stomach. He also concurred it was cold sores. Said they are too dry to do a culture to confirm HSV 1 or 2.
I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?
ve been taking 500mg of Valtrex every night and plan to do so for the next year to year and a half as suggested by my doctor. I have had no other outbreaks since the first one. My doctor explained to me that taking Valtrex on a regimen would help the virus become dormant. I was wondering what that meant specifically in terms of my likelihood of transmitting the virus to sexual partners with or without condoms.
ve got a fever, sore throat and severe body aches now too. Valtrex helps somewhat with the blisters on my arm if I start it soon enough, but this whole body rash laughs at any medication I try. Anybody have any thoughts? I'm going to the doctor tomorrow but am worried about the contagious nature of these blisters.
HSV-1 is less susceptible to Valtrex and related drugs, so the necessary dose is unknown and might be higher than for HSV-2. Also, asymptomatic shedding is less common with oral HSV-1 than genital HSV-2. Finally, the main strategy for protecting your partner probably should be for him or her to be tested for HSV-1. There is a 50-50 chance of a positive result, in which case s/he is not susceptible and you need take no precautions at all.

Since finding out I've contracted Herpes the area around my vagina has been swollen and I've also had a lot of bleeding which has been like a heavy period and lasted well over a week, nearly 2. I took Valtrex which stopped the bleeding so I assumed it was related to Herpes. But I have just finished a course of Valtrex and am bleeding again. At first I assumed it was my period but it's been heavy bleeding for a good few days now. I am also very itchy.
13 weeks pregnant, FTM. I've had herpes over 10 years. I had two outbreaks in the first trimester. At doc appointment yesterday, Dr. said that's too many, and put me on 500mg valtrex daily for suppressive treatment. I thought baby was safe from contracting it while in the womb, and was only at risk during vaginal birth, but Dr. said that babies CAN contract herpes in utero. I'm worried sick now about it, and cried after my appointment.
