Valtrex and denavir

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex and denavir

valtrex

Avatar m tn I have taken Valtrex and have used nearly an entire tube of Denavir on my lips. What is a common plan B for treating persistant cold sores once Valtrex and Denavir do not produce the desired results? Thanks for all of your help.
Avatar f tn t clearing up. He told me to continue on Valtrex for another 7 days and also prescribed a topical, denavir. This wasn't clearing up and he told me to go see a dermatologist. Dermatologist sent me for blood work. I tested positive for herpes 1 and 2. So I was told that the Valtrex should help. I was originally taking 1 GM and Everytime the week course was ending, the sore would appear again.
Avatar f tn Refrain from touching the sores and spreading the virus to new sites, such as the eyes and genitals. It is also important to wash hands after eating or touching the lesion. Ice applied directly to the cold sore site prior to the eruption of a blister may reduce the potential swelling. Any drying over-the-counter cold sore preparation that contains camphor and/or phenol may provide relief if applied in the early stages.
Avatar f tn I'm taking Valtrex 1 mg per day. Is there some sort of home test you can do to see if you have an outbreak. Aside from seeing a cluster or a lesion how can I tell if I have an outbreak? Is there anyway to know if there is one internally? As far as I know I haven't had any outbreaks although I do get some tingling and I've been putting denavir on areas that I know can turn into an outbreak.
Avatar f tn On Valtrex 1 mg per day. How can you tell aside from lesion if you have an outbreak or shedding? Aside from lesion? Is there anyway to know if there is one internally? Is shedding less powerful if on Valtrex and how long does it last? As far as I know I haven't had any outbreaks except maybe one last year. I do get some tingling and I've been putting denavir on areas that I know can turn into an outbreak. My ex passed to me from a large lesion on his bottom lip. My dr.

But an outbreak in 2008 sent me to the emergency room because a blister was so close to my eye. The doctor suggested that I use petroleum jelly (which is ok to get in your eyes). That brings me to the first real helpful form of EM mitigation – Petroleum Jelly.
Avatar n tn I have it too. My doctor gave me Valtrex, steriods and some cream. She said that I was allergic to heat and bacteria, but anyways, I found out that I was allergic to drugs. One day, I took an Advil liquid gel and broke out an hour later. It lasted for 6 days but after that, I discontinued consuming any sort of drugs and I never broke out again. Well, just wanted to share how my problem was resolved and I hope that you come to a solution. Take care.
Avatar n tn most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop. at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
Avatar m tn acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Avatar m tn I was taking valtrex for two days and using denavir and it just kept getting worse. Im glad that the dermatologist was able to squeeze me in on such sort notice and with knowing that she didnt accept my insurance.
Avatar f tn After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks. Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side? Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
1302779 tn?1287405029 i have generic valtrex but i also have chronic migraine and i feel the valtrex gives me a headache. do u get side effects from valtrex?
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results, wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
Avatar n tn Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
Avatar m tn If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?
Avatar n tn s office and it came back negative. I am also on Valtrex for herpes. Can valtrex effect the results, should i retest again?
Avatar f tn ve been taking 500mg of Valtrex every night and plan to do so for the next year to year and a half as suggested by my doctor. I have had no other outbreaks since the first one. My doctor explained to me that taking Valtrex on a regimen would help the virus become dormant. I was wondering what that meant specifically in terms of my likelihood of transmitting the virus to sexual partners with or without condoms.
1713150 tn?1314467342 By the way, my suppressive therapy dose is 500 mg valtrex (the generic of valtrex) 2x daily. So... after the 1st and only outbreak I was taking 1,000 mg 2x daily.
Avatar f tn I had never heard of the one day dose until now. just went and looked it up and will definitely try that on the day of my infusion and when I have my next outbreak. that is so much more convenient.
Avatar m tn HSV-1 is less susceptible to Valtrex and related drugs, so the necessary dose is unknown and might be higher than for HSV-2. Also, asymptomatic shedding is less common with oral HSV-1 than genital HSV-2. Finally, the main strategy for protecting your partner probably should be for him or her to be tested for HSV-1. There is a 50-50 chance of a positive result, in which case s/he is not susceptible and you need take no precautions at all. To the specific questions: 1,3) Answered above.
Avatar f tn Since finding out I've contracted Herpes the area around my vagina has been swollen and I've also had a lot of bleeding which has been like a heavy period and lasted well over a week, nearly 2. I took Valtrex which stopped the bleeding so I assumed it was related to Herpes. But I have just finished a course of Valtrex and am bleeding again. At first I assumed it was my period but it's been heavy bleeding for a good few days now. I am also very itchy.
Avatar f tn 13 weeks pregnant, FTM. I've had herpes over 10 years. I had two outbreaks in the first trimester. At doc appointment yesterday, Dr. said that's too many, and put me on 500mg valtrex daily for suppressive treatment. I thought baby was safe from contracting it while in the womb, and was only at risk during vaginal birth, but Dr. said that babies CAN contract herpes in utero. I'm worried sick now about it, and cried after my appointment.
