valtrex and cipro

I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown. My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?

After 2 months of Cipro, Valtrex and Cortsol for Epstein Barr virus, I developed acute bladder infection. I was treated with Levaquin for 1 month. At the tail end of my Cipro/Valtrex/Cortisol tretment and prior to the bladder infection the tip of my penis began to be constantly in pain (as if sand paper had been rubbed on the tip. This was 8 months ago! The pain has been constant. In addition pain in my lower left quadrant began to spread and my abdomen became very distented.

I only took 3 days worth of Valtrex (Wed, Thur, and Fri) along with my full prescription of Cipro, and everything cleared up by Friday. How long does it take for Valtrex to start working? I saw improvements the very next morning after taking the first dose, but I'm hoping that's from the Cipro. She ordered a culture, and I'm hoping to have the results back tomorrow. The anxiety is killing me!

was told that it was classic Shingles and what appeared to be cellulitis, was given cipro and Valtrex,with in days of taking the two drugs everything was healed and I was left with a scar, had follow-up with my Dr. given a clean bill of health, Never received a copy of the lab culture, was never informed, thought every thing was ok. 2011- take a full battery of STD tests, everything comes back negative EXCEPT HSV2. (HSV2 Range 1.98) , Chase down my DR.

If they come and go within a day, herpes sores donot to this.

My doctor prescribed Cipro (tests showed the staph was resistant to penicillin) and after two rounds (three days each) it has finally cleared up again (again, about a week after my cycle has ended and after two three-day rounds of the cipro). She also recommends having a herpes blood test done because she wonders how I contracted the staph and why it is recurring with my cycle.

I recently had an IgG Type Specific antibody test done on 12/3/2010. My HSV1 came back with a reading of 5.57. On 1/20/2011, I had additional testing and my HSV1 reading came back with a 6.01 reading. The testing was prompted after I experienced pain/swelling on the inside tip (rim, right side) of my urethra for several weeks. After various STD testing, the doctor put me on "Valtrex" and I had negative results, symptoms still persisted.

I was glad she was open to tell me about this however it worried me that I would possibly contract the virus if we had sex. Thankfully she is on Valtrex and she takes it daily. About a week and a half ago we decided to finally have sex. I used a condom and she had no visible symptoms or lesions on her. Literally the next day I had pain in my testicles and also an itchy feeling around the Testicles and growing region.

I tested positive for genital herpes and negative for all other STDs, and even after my blisters cleared up, the tip of my penis burned with a slightly swollen meatus. I am on suppressive therapy with Valtrex of .5g a day and the doctor even gave me Cipro in case it was a UTI. Although the tip of my penis is not burning anymore, it is still irritated and when I wake up after a morning erection, the meatus is swollen and a little red but then it looks normal as the day goes on.

m now on valtrex and ultram and have to wait about another 8 days for the herpes cotton swab test to come back (he said the blood test would show positive in many people, and that the cotton swab test was more accurate for actual genital herpes). i've been on both the valtrex and ultram for 3 days now and no releif from the pain while urinating. i'm still taking the Cipro from the ER as well.

And she put me back on Cipro this time for 10 days and they scheduled me for a sonogram of my stomach, liver spleen, etc. that came back w/ a result of a enlarged spleen & I tested positive for EBV @ this point I never even heard of EBV. So it's been almost 4 weeks been through bouts of extreme tiredness and weakness just pass out @ random.

I went to the gyn about the ulcers and pain i had on my vulva, and she didnt seem to pay any attention to the things i told her about the recent staph infection or the antibiotics or my recent hospitalization. she said she thinks its herpes and prescribed valtrex. she did a swab and two blood tests, all of which i have not received the results back for. but insisted that i take herpes medication. is this a good idea if i dont have herpes after all?

I noticed multiple small bumps kind of a whitish\skin color on my penis shaft. They have been there for a little over two weeks. They haven't changed at all. I have a burning sensation on multiple area's on my skin with no rash. The burning is on the inside of my knee's, elbows, a little in my arm pits, scrotum and butt. The burning intensity varies. It's kind of like a sun burn feeling. I have also had a sore throat but not sure if that is related.

After talking with her for awhile she prescribed 250mg of Cipro for 28 days. I am currently on the Cipro now and I feel much better but I still have some pain after sitting for to long or randomly one testicle will hurt but it goes away when I adjust my testicles. As far as the meatus pain that’s completely gone. My question is how does the urologist know this is a baterical prostatitis and not something else with no real test to prove it.

m taking Flomax and also Cipro in case there is a bacterial infection although my pee did not show any. Its been 2 months of pain for me and I'm hoping that these two pills fix things in the next 3-4 weeks. I have seen some minor improvement within the first week of meds. I'm definitely not peeing as often and not getting up as often in the middle of the night to pee. And the pelvic pain and crotch burn is less but I'm not normal yet.

2 on the 27 of dec had diverticulitis(mild case) had me on i v flagy and cipro and than gave me avalox to take home. meanwhile denuded areas came back, dec 31 went to the v a and had elisa done (third gen bio rad hiv1/hiv2 plus o) supposely 99.84-100 percent sensitive, it was neg. 1.

They said it was too early to test for HIV and Herpes and that it would take ten days for results. I went home and started goggling symptoms of herpes and concluded I had them all, although now I am not sure I did. The frequent urination seemed to become much worse on day 9 so I went to a local walk in clinic. He ran my urine and assured me I was 100% normal, however he gave me script for Cipro, “just in case” I had a bladder infection. He did not see any signs of herpes.

The doc said I could continue on the cipro if I wanted, but since she felt it was herpes there was no need to continue on the cipro. And since one of the side effects of cipro is yeast infections, I would like to avoid adding that to this. Another thing I am confused about is the Valtrex is so expensive and I am unemployed. Would one of the other drugs work just as well? Thank you so much for your responses. it helps to have somewhere to sound off on all the ?'s running through my head.

Liroff, I have been on several different antibiotics over the course of the past month (Doxycycline 11 days, Metronidazole 7days, and I am currently on valtrex). I have finished all of the other medications, but I am currently on Valtrex twice a day for another five days. Recently, I have not be urinating as much as a usually do.

I have taken Cipro for Urniary Tract Infections on and off for about 7 years. Last year the frequency of infections was about every 2 months. This winter I have had less than a month between symptoms. My doctor gave me a prescription for Macrobid in case I need it. I have taken it for the first time the past three days and the infection is still quite apparent especially during the night when I can feel the internal discomfort.

Be careful with using Cipro and other antibiotics and use it only as directed by your Physician. I was misdiagnoised with a urinary tract infection that time showed it wasn't and was prescribed Cipro. This drug and others in its class have a nasty side effect - mine was labral tears of the right shoulder and right hip. My Mother suffers from sinus infections and she has found that her Chiropractor successfully treats her by draining her sinus.

Im traveling in mexico and got pretty sick (my best guess is it was 'Travelers Diarrhea' or maybe food poisioning) I went to the pharmacy and got 500mg Cipro pills. I took one and got a horrible headache and vomitted alot. My symptoms seem to be gone however would it be a bad idea to stop taking the Cipro? I know people say you should always finish a course of antibiotics but in this case I dont know if I need them.

I have taken cipro a lot too and it hasn't bothered me before. But I recently took it and after 1 dose my heart started acting weird. Any antibiotic of that class can cause heart palpitations. Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics I can take have that potential side effect, I'm allergic to penicillin.
