I took 4 500mg tabs of Flagyl today and he started me on 2 tabs of Valtrex BID x 10 days and then 2 tabs daily afterward. There was no blood test taken. The only thing he did was swab. They said come back after my 3rd outbreak. And really told me nothing else. Gave me no information at all.
I have not had any of the "prodrome" symptoms. No fever. Nothing. And the areas that were sores from scratching now have white on them. They don't look like a blister or a scab to me.
advil is a minor anti inflammatory
I have never heard of it prescribed for this before but it could help a little I suppose
more widely prescribed for GM are some of the big anti inflammatories - particularly prednisone or methotrexate
I did take Naproxen for some time, (months at a pretty high dose - it really attacks your stomach lining though so I went off), which I guess is a step up from advil, and is a non steroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID), can't say if it helped with the inflamma
As some of you know I suffer from severe health anxiety...I started going through a particularly bad time last fall...I am constantly afraid of headaches,fevers,muscle aches etc..as a result of this I started taking advil constantly and I am up to about 10 to 12 liquigels a day..If I don't take them my anxiety goes through the roof and I start to imagine headaches,pain etc...this can't be good for me..and I don't know how to stop...
No you can't take advil.
We just found out yesterday I am expecting and figure im about 5 weeks. I have terrible headaches but I am allergic to tylenol, I have always just puked it up. Is there anything else I can take at this point?

What, if anything can I take for a headache? I've read far too many mixed reviews. I have advil and ibuprofen here, just don't Wana take anything besides my pre natals, too nerve wracking!
I ALWAYS have to take medicine and take it easy for a few days during my period. I usually take Advil the day before my expected period because they say that it works better if you take it before the pain starts. It does for me. Here is my problem: My husband and I are always dreaming and hoping for a baby. Is it a good idea to take Advil the day before my expected period when there is a chance I could be pregnant?
However, since that time (4 weeks ago) I have had a strange tingling feeling in the area but there have been no sores present. I called my doctor back and they put me on suppression therapy (Valtrex 500 mg per day). The doctor said she didn't know why I was still having the tingling sensation but it may be caused by nerve damage since the virus moves along the nerves.
Two questions:
1.) is it common to have constant tingling or "chaffing" feelings?
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
t take tylenol and/or advil? you can alternate them to get pain relief comparable to some narcotics.
dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ) is a spray on topical anesthestic you can get for under $10 at most drug stores. You spray it on for pain relief on the lesions.
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
My husband seems to be there for me but it is hard to deal none the less. I wore loose pants, cotton panties. I dried the area with a blow dryer and took plenty of advil. When not at work I tried to sit or semi lay to relieve any pressure in the area. Everyone is so different, from pain tolerance to severity of outbreak. Warm baths were suggested. Hope you feel better soon.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?
