Recently diagnosed with herpes 2, MD gave me acyclovir. Allergic reaction occurred, now MD has me on metronidazole. It's been 5 days and no relief from outbreak. Is there an alternative I can take?
I never saw obvious blister, so never got swabbed. I was started on Acyclovir for 10 days and then switched to Valtrex 1 gm twice a day. The fever stopped. But the itching and burning remained, and spread to all over the body. In March, my eyes started itching and pain. My eye MD did not see any lesion in the cornea, and prescribed artificial tear and anti-allergic drops, which were of little help.
What are "safe" methods we can engage in to still have sex, without myself or her having to worry as much about transmission? She suggested I keep my boxers on and wear a condom, which seems somewhat safe, but I am hoping for a safer alternative. I have done my due diligence i.e Terri Warren's "The Updated Herpes Handbook" but would like more specific solutions to going about this.

In the beginning of January, I had my first cold sore on my upper lip. I tried Abreva and it eventually went away after a week or so. About 7 weeks ago, I got a second cold sore at a different location. Since that date, and for every week following, I'd have a new sore appear as the old one was healing/gone....every 4-5 days almost like clockwork with no breaks in between. They rarely overlap in time frame (I think once?).
I took one 500mg Valtrex pill 24h before getting a culture test. It came back positive for HSV1, though the doc said it was minimally so (2 cells is apparently the minimum for this test, and 2 cells I had).
Could the Valtrex affect the test that much, so only one type would be found, and not the other?
The swab was done in just one blister. Can both viruses be present in the same blister? Do they both break out at once?
m negative for HSV 2, he said it would help as a defense for my body from possibly being infected. He also mentioned an amino acid called Lysine, which he said is an alternative natural supplement that has shown to help reduce outbreaks and their severity. Unfortunately, I have zero faith in anything he tells me because of the cavalier way in which he discusses not only herpes, but any medical issue. I'd be willing to take valtrex if it actually benefited a seronegative partner? Thank again.

I now am very interested in a young lady that I have not yet been intimate with, but it looks as though this will happen very soon. I have been taking Valtrex 1G for the last two months, and felt I needed to based on the chance of becoming intimate with someone I really like and want a relationship with. How effective is Valtrex when taken daily and preventing the spread of HSV? How safe is my potential partner?
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:

Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
