Valacyclovir when pregnant

Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir when pregnant

valtrex

Avatar f tn Acyclovir and valacyclovir are harmless to pregnant women and to a fetus at 20+ weeks, so there is no reason to not administer as much acyclovir (or valacyclovir) as it takes to be effective.
Avatar n tn t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
Avatar f tn I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby. Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks. They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
4541337 tn?1364850200 Since I have been pregnant I have been getting cold sores like crazy. Is anyone else having this problem? What do I do?
Avatar m tn I'm not sure that I understand your response. 1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean? 2.
Avatar n tn As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
Avatar f tn Valacyclovir rarely has the liver effects that rorainbow has experienced, and there are no scientific reports that liver problems (or any other adverse effects of valacyclovir) are any more frequent with alcohol intake. If NR was also drinking a bit too much when his enzymes rose, I don't see any reason to invoke valacyclovir as the cause. That would be like a guy getting whacked by a baseball bat and then attributing his headache to a brain tumor.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed. I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore. I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger? I appreciate your help.
Avatar f tn Try going without any bottoms when possible. (I realize it's winter in most places, and this is not always possible, but when you are home, put on a long shirt, no underwear, and let the air get to it. Sit in front of a fan if you can.) Try tea tree oil. DILUTE IT until you get used to it or your crotch will burn like fire. Wet a cotton ball and add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to the cotton ball, then dab it on the affected area.
Avatar f tn I guess sometimes the blisters bust when you simply move and sit down, but because it busted when I was inspecting it, I am now more worried. Please feel free to tell me I am being silly, as I seem to respond better to that! Your help is appreciated Ma'am.
Avatar n tn As for serodiscordance if you want to become pregnant- see above, Figure out when mid cycle/ovulation is and abandon condoms at that time. Once pregnant, condoms for sure and abstinence of the third trimester when a transmission event would be most likely to lead to congenital infection. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn m afraid to say it but the rashy skin is clearly linked to the valacyclovir. When I first contracted it, I took large doses daily (2,000-2,500mg), and the rash became very apparent and my doc had me stop taking it immediately. Now out of desperation I've been taking lower doses (500mg twice a day), and so far the rash is very very mild but it's there a bit. Right now I cannot live without vcv because my symptoms have been pretty much continuous and systemic as I described above.
Avatar m tn My dr prescribed me with 30 1g of valacyclovir with no instructions on taking them. I took 1g of valacyclovir every day for 30 days. My last day taking valacyclovir was 02-28-18. I took a igG herpeselect blood on 4-3-18 and it was negative. I was told that the antivirals affected my test and i would have to be off of them for 12 weeks. So i tested again for hsv 1 and 2 on 05-24-18 exactly 12 weeks off of antivirals and it was negative.
Avatar m tn I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?
Avatar f tn t yet told him that I have herpes, but when I do I want to be able to say that the risk of transmission is very low (when combining daily suppressive drugs and condoms). I read a lot of statistics about Valtrex, but not as many about Acyclovir. Are both drugs just as effective in preventing transmission? Also, should I be taking 400 mg twice a day instead of once? My doctor has been down playing the issue a lot and only gave me the prescription to take it daily bc I asked her to.
Avatar f tn What are the contraindications of taking penicillin and valacyclovir during the same cycle ? Can they both be taken on the same day ?
Avatar m tn I got infected with genital herpes about 5 months ago, from unprotected oral sex from a striper.... I took valacyclovir 1 g twice a day within 24 hours of the initial episode, and kept taking it until I got better, which took a while (a month almost).... My symptoms (ulcers, itchiness and pain/discomfort) have been recurrent and very persistant since. I think I have had symptoms 3-4 out of every 5 days since day one.
Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar n tn My question is, can Valacyclovir be taken as a preventative measure if I take it a few days in advance of the big event? If so, what dosage? Thanks.
Avatar m tn ) Would you double the valacyclovir dosage or at least up it? What about for long-term suppressive therapy? If someone could in particular elucidate how valacyclovir works and WHY it would be important/ unimportant to adjust that dosage based on wanting to suppress both conditions, you would have my eternal thanks.
Avatar n tn What can I do to reduce the risk for transmitt herpes to my wife(I told her the fact before marry)? Can I use the Valtrex(valacyclovir) once a day? Thank you for your help!
Avatar m tn I have had a prescription for Acyclovir ever since I was diagnosed in 2003, but I do not take it on a daily basis. I only take it when I have an outbreak or when I feel I am going to get an outbreak. My body usually signals me when I am going to have an outbreak, generally by some pain in one foot/leg, in addition to an itching sensation in the area where the outbreak is going to occur. My girlfriend has been tested and she does not have HSV-2 or any other STD's.
Avatar n tn So, you have, like a lot of people, herpes simplex 1. It IS contagious so be careful of that so you don't spread it to others. Don't pick the sores off. Take the medicine and if you feel a tingle like another cold sore is coming, use the valacyclovir. You may have angiokeratoma of Fordyce which normally goes away if left alone.
