Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir take with food

valtrex

Avatar f tn I don't think they are cold sores. I have tried valacyclovir pills, eczema cream, antibacterial ointments, proactive, petroleum jelly, blistex, fluticasone propionate cream and have iced it and there has been no difference. Someone please help!!!
Avatar f tn The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. That difference was not statistically significant and there is no suggestion even for routine liver tests in people taking the drug. Here is a link to the official prescribing information about the drug, as approved by the US Food and Drug Administration: http://us.gsk.
Avatar n tn t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
Avatar f tn At the beginning it occured once in two month then it got worse and worse, twice a month in combination with the tiniest activators like menstruation, stress, unhealthy food or even one little spot near my mouth. During that time I got really depressed and didn't want to go to Universitiy anymore. I did not just look weird it really hurt, too! Nothing helped, i tried it with an Acyclovir supression therapy for 3 months but as soon as I stopped it, it continued being that worse.
Avatar f tn And nothing with baby has changed. The meds helps keep you ready for delivery.
Avatar m tn I provided the information I did in an effort to give you as much relevant information as possible because ultimately this is a decision you need to take yourself. If you stop the valacyclovir you may not have a recurrence and, in fact, I suspect you will not. I would suggest being off the drug at least a week before resuming sex, just to be on the safe side. Second, you should discuss the situation with your wife. How does she feel about the risk- this is critical.
1325672 tn?1290084214 Hi Grampy, I was told to take OxyContin or any narcotic with food. However as Jaybay said you should check with your pharmacist. He/she may also have additionally suggestions for you to help ease your stomach issues. If you weren't told, the literature says you should avoid grapefruit and grapefruit products. That's a given with most all narcotics. If effects the action of the some medications and narcotics are generally one of them. But again check with your pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Even without treatment, most people with HSV2 have markedly reduced outbreak frequency within 10 years -- so the odds are good it will go well if you take a break from valacyclovir. The other advantage is that if you do get a typical outbreak off the drug -- with blisters, sores, etc -- it can be tested to reconfirm HSV2 and also to test your virus for drug resistance. I hope this has helped. Best wishes and happy new year.
Avatar n tn I read somewhere else that taking Lysine can counter the arginine in almonds. Is it safe to take Lysine along with my Valacyclovir? Would it help anything? Or should I give up almonds? Thanks for any helpful advice.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed. I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore. I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger? I appreciate your help.
Avatar n tn When there is, a test to make sure it is HSV and to know what type (HSV-1 or HSV-2), taken ASAP after the appearance of the lesion should help (type of virus is important- there is little need to take chronic valacyclovir if your lesions turn out to be HSV but are HSV-1. Suppressive therapy is of proven benefit only for persons with HSV-2). As far as your partners are concerned, at least 20-25% of adults have genital HSV and of these, only about 20% are aware that they have the infection.
Avatar f tn You can take both penicillin and valacyclovir together as that doesn't get interaacted.
Avatar f tn Any supplements that I can take to help? Ive been living with this for years and just finally after many docotrs found out whats going on. No one around me really seems to take it seriously and think its all in my head even after a confirmed blood test. Im 31 years old and feel pretty much alone and lost.
Avatar m tn I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest. From what I've read this is unlikely.
Avatar f tn These two drugs should be okay to take together. I have a drug book, as I am in school, and I read both of these drugs... There is no contraindication in taking these drugs together. You may want to make sure and drink extra water, as both have some constipation as a side effect, but other than that, you should be okay.

Avatar f tn On Sunday I began feeling swollen lymph nodes in my groin. Monday I began having a fever and diarrhea, along with continued groin lymph swelling, and night sweats began (I've been using acetaminophen ever since to try to regulate my temperature--with some success) ... Tuesday I started to notice my mouth wasn't right. It felt chalky and full. Late tuesday night lesions began appearing on the very tip of my tongue... there are red dots and elevated grey patches along the very tip.
Avatar f tn Take antiviral medications like Acyclovir and Valtrex can help. Some topical creams like Prosurx or Acyclovir are also effective in keeping herpes sores dry. Besides, you should wear cotton underwear to avoid irritation. Immeditaely keep the sores clean and dry after taking bath by a soft cotton towel, and don't forget to wash the towel.
Avatar n tn My question is, can Valacyclovir be taken as a preventative measure if I take it a few days in advance of the big event? If so, what dosage? Thanks.
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago I was tested positive for HSV-2. I have had several outbreaks since then, but they were all pretty minor (1-2 sores). I was taking Valtrex daily for about a month and a half, but I developed what appeared to be cystic acne the whole time I was on it. As soon as I stopped, my skin cleared up, but I had another outbreak, so I went back on it and my skin started to break out again. I've never read anything about that being a side effect, but it was the only explanation.
Avatar m tn I am already diagnosed with HSV-2 and take Valacyclovir (Valtrex) 500mg daily. After some reading online, it seems that this medication may delay the HIV seroconversion. Does this mean that HIV symptoms would also be delayed or minimized? I understand that I will not be sure until I take an HIV test, but I am hoping for some peace of mind until I get tested at the 3 month mark.
683231 tn?1467323017 I have the Ribavirin now but not sure about the take with food part. I eat fairly irregularly no set schedule. Is taking with say a banana, a piece of bread or some almonds enough food? Or does it need to be an actual meal? I know some may suggest peanut butter but I do not eat that. Really I don't eat "meals" very often. Is a bowl of cereal ok?
Avatar m tn Hello again Doctor. I just got off the phone with my primary care doctor's triage nurse. They have approved the Valacyclovir prescription for me, however my doctor prescribed the 1000 mg as opposed to the 500 mg pills I asked for. He says I should take 1000 mg per day instead of the 500 mg you recommended, but I trust your expertise on this much more. I suppose I will just have to purchase the 1000 mg and break them in half.
