Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir results

valtrex

Avatar m tn My lab IgG Results are as follows...I think I was infected 30 years ago, this is my first test. I rarely have genital outbreak, and never had a fever blister or anything on my face. My doctor sucks, and I never get any good answers. She told me I have HSV2, but the lab results indicate both 1 and 2??? After the test, with no outbreaks, she has put me on Ayciclovir 5x/day for 10 days to lower my numbers... I don't understand why the drug...
Avatar n tn Prolonged valacyclovir might modify test results but not a few days. Your second question relates to biochemistry. There is no such thing as a zero result in most biological assays. If the results were being reported out as positve or negative your results will be reported as negative.
Avatar m tn hsv, igm 1 2 combo 1.38 ratio .90, negative .91, equivocal .91-1.09, positive 1.09 herpies simplex virus 1 2 igg 53.0 index .8, negative .9, positive 1.0 Back in Januaary Grace in the forum pretty much told me that this test was pretty much a waist of money and time. So I just had another test done here is the results; hsv type 2 specific ab igg 5.8 high index 0.00 - 0.90 negative 1.09 equivical .91 - 1.09 positive >1.09 Now what do these numbers mean?
Avatar f tn I grew concerned and got tested for all STDS. The results came back negative. A month after getting the results, I got ulcers in my throat and immediately went back to my doctor to find out if I had contracted HSV 1. She examined me and said that it did not look like I did and that the test for Herpes was negative. She just told me my immune system was weak. I got blood test anyway to make sure that she was correct. It came back negative.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure that I understand your response. 1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean? 2.
Avatar m tn I am really worried about the possibility of contracting herpes and I know I should get tested, but will the Valtrex affect the results? I really don't want to tell my wife about the incident if I don't have HSV. Will the Valtrex reduce the possibility of transmitting it to her while I await the test results? I'm feeling tingling near the base of my penis, on my balls, and near my anus. Could that be the prodrome? I really need your help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have previously asked several questions in the "forum" but now would like specific questions answered by you, the doctor. I am 58 year old, single for many years, woman, with several past partners (but not permiscuious). Recently, tested positive for HSV-1 (which I have had for as long as I can remember-only have an outbreak on lips when over exposed to the sun), but also tested positive for HSV-2, which is new, totally unsuspected, and shocking (test results below).
Avatar m tn Do you use protection? Because that would explain why he doesn't have type 2.
Avatar n tn Well, I had another Western Blot for a convalescent test and the results were negative for HSV2 positive for HSV1. Why do both the HerpeSelect IGG type specific and Western Blot for HSV2 keep coming up negative after three years of the culture diagnosis? I believed the Western Blot would be much more specific and sensitive to the antibodies. I did have a suspicious sore spot (not a blister) on my genital and I PCR swabbed immediately and for four days after. The swabs were also negative.
Avatar m tn The very next day I noticed blistering and began having pain and tingling. When I got my blood test results they were negative for herpes 1 and 2 but positive for chlamydia? the results were 1.12 Is it possible that the blood tests picked up on the pneumonia? Since my new physical symptoms (blistering etc) we did additional testing (cultures) to determine if I have herpes 1 or 2 and a urine sample for chlamydia. ( results in 5 days) How long can chlamydia lay dormant in the system?
Avatar m tn t had an episode occur in more than 16 years until this past July when I noticed a bump on the bottom of my penis which then formed some lesions. I went to my doctor and he prescribed me a suppressant Valacyclovir 500mg which I take daily. I haven’t had another outbreak since July but a week ago when I went to the doctor, I took your advice and got a blood test to test exactly what I might have.
Avatar f tn I realize I need to get retested but I'm losing sleep over this. I have been checking downstairs daily and noticed these red little painless bumps and they have been there for two weeks. They look like little zits. I have them in two areas not on the moist part but outside the lips near the hair. They are essentially painless and not too itchy. I've been on valacyclovir 500mg per day and the red bumps still won't go away.
Avatar f tn I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby. Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks. They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
Avatar n tn t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
Avatar n tn Hi all, Do you find the generic version of Valtrex less effective? I was diagnosed with genital herpes about ten years. I would take 250 mg of Valtrex (name brand) for a couple of days when I felt an outbreak coming on and it was very effective (although with side effects…stomach upset and sometimes a headache if I didn't drink enough water while taking it).
Avatar f tn Sorry for posting so much but I am a wreck. Doctor said she'd have my results for the culture today but she hasn't called and it is driving me insane. I can't sleep soundly, I keep waking up every hour to see if I missed the call. No missed calls. I'm really losing it. I really wanna know what this is! I started taking the meds (Acycolvir 400mg 2 times a day) Friday night when I got home from the hospital and the pills have not made me feel any better, in fact i feel worst.
Avatar f tn The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. That difference was not statistically significant and there is no suggestion even for routine liver tests in people taking the drug. Here is a link to the official prescribing information about the drug, as approved by the US Food and Drug Administration: http://us.gsk.
Avatar n tn As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
Avatar m tn We both suggested you get a culture of PCR test from an outbreak when it occurs. Have you done this. I would hate to think that you have suffered and taken all of this valacyclovir for something that was not HSV and there are other problems which can cause sores resembling HSV. My primary advice for you is that you need a culture or PCR from a lesion and if nothing else, a repeat blood test.
Avatar f tn greater in the first year of acquiring HSV-2, but does anyone have the stats/differences on that as compared to subsequent years? Also, would daily valacyclovir reduce the transmission odds by 50% in the first year as well? I am a female by the way, with a partner who is aware of my status, but is negative. He is completely unconcerned about the risks, but that makes only one of us--I am mortified by the idea of potentially giving this to him.
Avatar m tn I believe she was on valacyclovir, I looked up some of the side effects and a few of the side effects I mentioned were listed. She did have a headache as well, no noticeable fever though. This is the first outbreak she has had, she has also not had sex in about two years. I understand that she could have had it previously and it was lying dormant. I think it seems a little naive to believe that this just so happened to pop up after she was assaulted.
Avatar f tn And although recurrent outbreaks can occur while taking valacyclovir, they are rare -- and monthly is unheard of. It is possible your HSV has become resistant to the drug, but that's quite rare as well. As for valacyclovir side effects, you needn't worry.
Avatar f tn I came in contact with the HSV virus about 9 -10 weeks ago, since then I have had symptoms on and off.
Avatar m tn t been officially diagnosed yet for HSV2 because he never had sores present. The blood test results igM and igG both came back negative a few days ago after one month of exposure. So now his Urologist is saying that he doesn't think it's herpes, but I'm convinced it is, because all his symptoms (and he's been having several variations of them off and on) always respond to the large dose (2 grams twice daily) of Valtrex right away.
Avatar f tn I have been on valacyclovir on and off for about 5 years. I have had recurrent outbreaks during my pregnancy and was recently put on daily suppression of 500mg, with an increase to 1000mg during an outbreak. This occurred because I had three outbreaks pretty much back-to-back. Each only lasted 3-4 days but had a other one to take it place.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed. I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore. I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger? I appreciate your help.
