Valacyclovir other uses

Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir other uses

valtrex

Avatar f tn Even without treatment, most people with HSV2 have markedly reduced outbreak frequency within 10 years -- so the odds are good it will go well if you take a break from valacyclovir. The other advantage is that if you do get a typical outbreak off the drug -- with blisters, sores, etc -- it can be tested to reconfirm HSV2 and also to test your virus for drug resistance. I hope this has helped. Best wishes and happy new year.
Avatar n tn t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
Avatar f tn Is that really the condoms that are triggering the herpes? Do I have to change an uses non latex? Is the herpes virus in my body (even dormant) near my vagina?
Avatar m tn I'm not sure that I understand your response. 1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean? 2.
Avatar m tn I got infected with genital herpes about 5 months ago, from unprotected oral sex from a striper.... I took valacyclovir 1 g twice a day within 24 hours of the initial episode, and kept taking it until I got better, which took a while (a month almost).... My symptoms (ulcers, itchiness and pain/discomfort) have been recurrent and very persistant since. I think I have had symptoms 3-4 out of every 5 days since day one.
Avatar n tn If one has either HSV-1 or HSV-2, how well does having one type prevent the acquisition of the other? i.e., does having one protect you from the other and to what extent if so? 5. Does being immunosuppressed make it easier for one who has either HSV-1 or HSV-2 to contract the other type (HSV-1 to HSV-2) or same type of HSV (HSV-1 to HSV-1)? 6.
Avatar f tn I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby. Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks. They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
Avatar n tn As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
Avatar n tn 1) acute Sinus issue 2) Acute Upper Airway Obstruction 3) erectile dysfunction On 2nd week (10 days) - My primary care physician did blood and urine tests (Comprehensive metabolic, Lipid, PSA, TSH, CBC, Testosterone, STD screening) . HIV 3rd generation is non-reactive . All other tests are normal except cholesterol and herpes (HSV1,HSV2) . HSV2 reading is 3.5. He is not sure when I could have got herpes as never had outbreaks. He prescribed valacyclovir 500mg twice daily for 2 months.

Triple neg breast cancer survivor, chemo & rad 6 years ago. Currently on Valacyclovir, Combian & Lotemax for eye only. I have had eye issue, weight loss of 16 lbs & swollen lymph nodes (neck only) since May. Some days I feel normal and some days my mouth has the metallic taste like when I was on chemo....
Avatar f tn These two drugs should be okay to take together. I have a drug book, as I am in school, and I read both of these drugs... There is no contraindication in taking these drugs together. You may want to make sure and drink extra water, as both have some constipation as a side effect, but other than that, you should be okay.
Avatar f tn Is there anything I can be doing to to help resolve this problem other than suppressive valacyclovir therapy? Are there any other medications / treatments that could boost my immune system capability to suppress the virus over the long term? Are there any clinical trials that I can volunteer for?
Avatar f tn It is very common for one partner in a relationship to have herpes and for it not to be transmitted to the other partner for many months or even years. Many husbands or wives of infected persons never catch it. So even if you have new herpes, it doesn't indicate either of you has had other partners. You are on a lower than usual dose of acyclovir for initial herpes which might explain why the symptoms aren't improving yet.
Avatar f tn I believe (though I could be wrong) valacyclovir is the only drug that is approved by the FDA for suppressive therapy, because it's the only drug that has had an FDA registered clinical trial performed for this purpose. However, it is well documented that valtrex and acyclovir perform very similarly. Valtrex is actually converted into acyclovir by the liver, so essentially, the two drugs act the same way in the body to suppress the virus.
Avatar m tn 1) I have the beginnings of a cold sore on the lip. For Valacyclovir and Valtrex the recommended dosage is 2000mg every 12 hours...total of 4000mg in 24 hours. I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest.
Avatar m tn I believe I caught HSV-1 orally about six months ago... I also believe I caught HSV-1 genitally about four weeks ago or less... My symptoms were never more than a blister that appeared on my lips and also on my genitals, but they never burst or popped... Just the common symptoms - tingling, itching... However, on my genitals it seems to be a bit more painful... I have been using a transdermal oxygem cream which GREATLY reduces the discomfort and the rising of the white 'blisters.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed. I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore. I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger? I appreciate your help.
Avatar m tn I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?
Avatar f tn Hi All, this is my first post. I had been taking acyclovir successfully for the past six years, for outbreaks about two to three times per year. With all the stress in my life these days, my outbreaks have become much more frequent and for whatever reason, I am now having some unpleasant side effects from acyclovir, like headache (tolerable), weird taste in my mouth and excess salivation, and a heavy feeling in my legs and arms.
Avatar m tn But it was a small, weakly designed study and to my knowledge it was never confirmed. The risk of herpes or any other STD has never been studied. On the other hand, in distant past decades, it was widely believed that washing after sex helped prevent syphilis. My take on it is that there is probably neither much help nor harm from washing with soap and water after sex, i.e. no change in risk of HIV or other STDs. If there is any effect either way, I'm confident it's small.
Avatar f tn What are the contraindications of taking penicillin and valacyclovir during the same cycle ? Can they both be taken on the same day ?
