Initial gential herpes symptoms rarely if ever more than 2-3 weeks, especially when taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). It is very rare for herpes to not respond to valacyclovir. I wonder whether you now have a yeast infection, which can follow herpes (or any other genital area inflammation.

I was referred to an infectious diseases specialist and I was put on Valacyclovir and bacitracin ointment which only helped the problem to about 80% better but the issue never really entirely went away. It is March 2014 and I am again taking 1000mg 3x per day generic Valacyclovir for 7 days and the redness and spots on my chin are only somewhat better than they have been but they are still there and never completely went away.

Do report back to your doctor that the prescription is not helping, and that you may need to (a) double your dose, (b) try the brand name itself (Valtrex, rather than the generic valacyclovir) or (c) try an entirely different antiviral. Acyclovir works best for me and for many others, for example.
I hope you find relief soon. There may be over-the-counter topicals that will help with the discomfort. I've heard that folks sometimes use the oral herpes ointments with success.
But irritation from the sores rubbing against my underwear. I am on Valacyclovir. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any over the counter ointment, or any kind of home treatment to relieve the irritation. Thank you!
Problem is i started getting patches of raised bumps , like pimples and they itch , never had this before now .. I read you should not use zovirax ointment on the inside vaginal are , what do I do , My Doctor evidently does not give directions well or is this not the case, iam scared been withmy husband 16yrs and never had any problems and all of a sudden I have raised bumps all over ... She gave me valtrex and I had a svere allergic reaction to it. Migrains , skin rash and sore throat.
You need to be treated for this though genital herpes cannot be cured. There are antiviral drugs like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir which can shorten the episodes and decrease their severity. Acyclovir reduces the pain and number of lesions in the initial case of herpes and reduces recurrence. The ointment applied topically reduces pain, healing time and limits the spread.
I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby.
Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks.
They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
t want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day. When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound.
On Thursday I saw the dermatologist and he said it was likely a bad bacterial infection, gave me strong ointment and antibiotic Clindamycin HCL, the ointment Altabax retapamulin 1% and said if it didn't at least feel a little better in the morning go to the hospital. I entered the emergency room Friday morning in major pain, and with a disfigured face. I was admitted Friday evening and given an iv drip with 6 rounds of antibiotic.
I'm not sure that I understand your response.
1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean?

As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
1 was almost healed ( the original one) . She started on 1 gram twice a day Of valacyclovir Tuesday evening . Today the sores have multiplied like mad and she is in a great deal of pain.
Questions.
1 is it possible the drug made it temporally worse. ?
2 what is the best topical pain med or procedure to alleviate some of the pain ?( opiates make her I'll)
3 are the sores being spread from sore to sore if so it best to cover them?

And although recurrent outbreaks can occur while taking valacyclovir, they are rare -- and monthly is unheard of. It is possible your HSV has become resistant to the drug, but that's quite rare as well.
As for valacyclovir side effects, you needn't worry.
I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed.
I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore.
I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger?

I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?
What are the contraindications of taking penicillin and valacyclovir during the same cycle ? Can they both be taken on the same day ?
I got infected with genital herpes about 5 months ago, from unprotected oral sex from a striper.... I took valacyclovir 1 g twice a day within 24 hours of the initial episode, and kept taking it until I got better, which took a while (a month almost)....
My symptoms (ulcers, itchiness and pain/discomfort) have been recurrent and very persistant since. I think I have had symptoms 3-4 out of every 5 days since day one.
I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
I had a standard HIV test done on the first day of symptoms (about a week after my last sexual exposure) and that test came back negative. Doc now has me on valacyclovir because he thinks i have oral herpes. The valacyclovir has taken much of my fever away. And the nystatin and valacyclovir have together mostly cleared up my tongue sores and blisters. But I feel like without the valacyclovir, i'd be very very sick. Also my lymph node on the right side of my groin is still quite swollen.
