Valacyclovir for fever blisters

Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir for fever blisters

valtrex

Avatar f tn Doc now has me on valacyclovir because he thinks i have oral herpes. The valacyclovir has taken much of my fever away. And the nystatin and valacyclovir have together mostly cleared up my tongue sores and blisters. But I feel like without the valacyclovir, i'd be very very sick. Also my lymph node on the right side of my groin is still quite swollen. any opinions about what this might be? two ER doctors said they thought my oral infection was fungal/yeast. only my GP thought it was herpes.
Avatar f tn Hi, If fever blisters erupt, they should be kept clean and dry to prevent bacterial infections. Refrain from touching the sores and spreading the virus to new sites, such as the eyes and genitals. It is also important to wash hands after eating or touching the lesion. Ice applied directly to the cold sore site prior to the eruption of a blister may reduce the potential swelling.
Avatar m tn I believe I caught HSV-1 orally about six months ago... I also believe I caught HSV-1 genitally about four weeks ago or less... My symptoms were never more than a blister that appeared on my lips and also on my genitals, but they never burst or popped... Just the common symptoms - tingling, itching... However, on my genitals it seems to be a bit more painful... I have been using a transdermal oxygem cream which GREATLY reduces the discomfort and the rising of the white 'blisters.
Avatar n tn She prescribed Valacyclovir 10 mg tablets, her anti-viral, takes three per day for seven days, also prescribed Mupirocin 2% for the blisters and Hydrocodone/APAP, SMG/325mg Tabs for pain. Recommended if pain is unbearable to go to the ER for possible admitance to Hospital and intravenious pain care. So far she has slept a lot. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn My dr prescribed me with 30 1g of valacyclovir with no instructions on taking them. I took 1g of valacyclovir every day for 30 days. My last day taking valacyclovir was 02-28-18. I took a igG herpeselect blood on 4-3-18 and it was negative. I was told that the antivirals affected my test and i would have to be off of them for 12 weeks. So i tested again for hsv 1 and 2 on 05-24-18 exactly 12 weeks off of antivirals and it was negative.
Avatar f tn Would the tingling be distinguishable, and would the blisters appear right away? its been going on for a few days (pretty minimal, I am just hyperaware of anything going on down there now) and no blisters have appeared on my genitals. I look twice a day very closely with a mirror. Please help!!!! I am worried my future relationships will be ruined.
Avatar f tn I'm 12 weeks today not sure if I can take anything normally i would take lysine but everything I read says it's not safe for pregnancy I keep getting these fever blisters. I'm not sure if it's from stress or my immune system low.
Avatar m tn After about 10 days, I got a sore-like thing on my upper lip and freaked out, and I took Valtrex right away for 2 days, and it went away within half an hour upon first taking the Valtrex. I did not have a fever, nor any other blisters or sores thereafter. As far as I knew at that point, I was both HSV-1 and HSV-2 negative. Anyway, I got tested for everything at the 3 week mark again and got 0.94 on the HSV-2 test, which is of course equivocal, and I got negative for everything else.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had more frequent fever blisters while pregnant, rather than before? I had 4 come up today, & it is driving me crazy! I'm 23 wks!
Avatar n tn First, are you sure it's "fever" blisters? There are other types of blisters it could be, so you need to know what you're treating before you can proceed.
Avatar f tn I'm on valacyclovir 500 mg daily and I have this uncomfortable feeling near the opening of my vagina and on both sides of my rectum. It even stings sometimes when having a vowel movement. Is it possible to have an outbreak for months? I don't see any blisters or sores. My vagina has always had a red tone and I have big pores so those can't be the herpes outbreak. I've been tests for HIV twice and negative. Why am I still feelig uncomfortable?
Avatar f tn ve read that flu-like symptoms (including fever) accompany an outbreak. Could a fever without any other symptoms (ie lesions or blisters) be indicative of an infection? In other words, for a first time outbreak, can the symptoms include fever (without muscle aches) but not actual sores? Thanks.
Avatar f tn By then it was scabbed over and healing. He rest for allergies, parasites, full STD screening again (minus herpes, for some reason) and told me it was a manifestation of stress as his testing didn’t turn anything up. Encouraged me to get my stress under control and take antihistamines for the hives as they happened. Divorced my husband in July of 2017. Blisters and hives stopped. May 2018. Same damn cluster of blisters occurs on my chest. I was determined to find out what it was.
Avatar n tn Since you have sore throat and swollen lymph nodes, you could be having glandular fever, or pharyngitis. The blisters could also be causing the infection and inflammation which can result in swollen glands. Please consult your PCP at the earliest. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn So I had a swab test taken on cuts that are on my butt and vagina and I tested positive for type 1 herpes 2 weeks ago. I was prescribed valacyclovir and I have been taking this twice a day everyday for the past 2 weeks and it has not helped me at all. I am in so much pain and I don't understand why I am still not healing or getting better. I just got my period and I am so sore on my vagina and bottom there are several bleeding cuts on my vagina and between my butt and vagina.
Avatar n tn I cant explain it once one goes away anouther one comes back in anouther spot. Is this pretty common for fever blisters ow and I have not had one on my lip at all. Am planning on going to the doc this week but I dont know what doc to go to is it better to go to my general doc, dermatalogist or a disease specialist.
Avatar m tn Finally, with regard to valacyclovir, I think your question meant to distinguish between 1000 mg twice daily for therapy and once daily for suppression is this correct?
Avatar f tn Seven days ago I started an episodic treatment of 1g valacyclovir for 10 days because I started to get my second cold sore only a week and a half after my primary outbreak had healed. However, this evening I noticed some warning signs, and sure enough I have two or more blisters forming around my mouth and one blister in my genitals. (I was diagnosed with HSV 1 of the mouth and genitals). Why did I get an outbreak when I'm already on the outbreak medicine? How common is this occurence?
