After a few days of the swelling not going down taking the valacyclovir, I decided to apply OTC steroid cream, which relived the inflamation very quickly.
Decided to take valacyclovir 1 gram for a hole year to decrease the recurrances, BUT, even with 1gr twice a day for more than a month now, my symptoms are not completely gone.
I don't think they are cold sores. I have tried valacyclovir pills, eczema cream, antibacterial ointments, proactive, petroleum jelly, blistex, fluticasone propionate cream and have iced it and there has been no difference. Someone please help!!!

Yesterday, Saturday, 12/26, we went to an Emergency Clinic. There the doctor said she did have Shingles. She prescribed Valacyclovir 10 mg tablets, her anti-viral, takes three per day for seven days, also prescribed Mupirocin 2% for the blisters and Hydrocodone/APAP, SMG/325mg Tabs for pain. Recommended if pain is unbearable to go to the ER for possible admitance to Hospital and intravenious pain care. So far she has slept a lot. Thanks for your help.
As for the benefit of the cream (BTW, there is no valacyclovir cream, this may be acyclovir cream), I suspect it is the cram that is soothing, not that it offers any benefit in terms of viral suppression.
The possibility that this could be a gG deficient variant is not possible. gG deficient HSV does not survive at all and would not be expect to cause disease.
This is not herpes. You do not need to worry about giving it to someone else.
Initial gential herpes symptoms rarely if ever more than 2-3 weeks, especially when taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). It is very rare for herpes to not respond to valacyclovir. I wonder whether you now have a yeast infection, which can follow herpes (or any other genital area inflammation.
Lysine is ineffective against herpes -- an urban myth, and some experts would call it quackery.
Welcome to the forum. There isn't any good scientific evidence that "natural" remedies have anay benefit. Any number of creams and ointments will be soothing, things containing aloe, for example, but there is no evidence that various plant products, lysine, etc actually speed healing. Most important, don't be tempted to spend a lot of money on things that aren't likely to help.
I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby.

1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean?

In Feb of this yr, I started having symptoms of an what i thought was an ob for months and months without relief. I take a gram of valacyclovir daily and even doubling the dose for week straight didnt seem to help what was going on. The skin just wouldn't heal. Went to a doctor who evaluated my labia, vulva and anal areas. He seemed confident that what I was experiencing wasn't a recurrence of herpes at all, he diagnosed me lichen sclerosus.
As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
And although recurrent outbreaks can occur while taking valacyclovir, they are rare -- and monthly is unheard of. It is possible your HSV has become resistant to the drug, but that's quite rare as well.
As for valacyclovir side effects, you needn't worry.
I went back with my gyn and started a valacyclovir treatment that has been working very well, the sore has almost disapeared, but my adenopathy has not changed at all. My question is:
When will the swollen inguinal lymph nodes heal? will the situation change when the hsv sore heals? or will my body keep the inmuno-struggle with the virus? when should i start worrying for my non healed adenopathy?
I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed.
I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore.
I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger?

I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?
What are the contraindications of taking penicillin and valacyclovir during the same cycle ? Can they both be taken on the same day ?

I had a standard HIV test done on the first day of symptoms (about a week after my last sexual exposure) and that test came back negative. Doc now has me on valacyclovir because he thinks i have oral herpes. The valacyclovir has taken much of my fever away. And the nystatin and valacyclovir have together mostly cleared up my tongue sores and blisters. But I feel like without the valacyclovir, i'd be very very sick. Also my lymph node on the right side of my groin is still quite swollen.
My question is, can Valacyclovir be taken as a preventative measure if I take it a few days in advance of the big event? If so, what dosage? Thanks.

Would you double the valacyclovir dosage or at least up it? What about for long-term suppressive therapy? If someone could in particular elucidate how valacyclovir works and WHY it would be important/ unimportant to adjust that dosage based on wanting to suppress both conditions, you would have my eternal thanks.
