1257808 tn?1322762215 Speaking very generally, if you carry sickle cell trait and your wife carries sickle cell trait, your child will have a 50% chance to carry sickle cell trait, a 25% chance to get sickle cell anemia, and a 25% chance to get neither the trait or the illness. But read the following carefully because that is a general statement only and you need to be more specific. http://www.sicklecellsociety.
1750462 tn?1316651822 At one point, when she was young, they thought it was sickle cell until they did the test and found it to be negative. She was carrying the sickle cell trait though. She has all the symptoms of an anemic, but with normal iron levels. Iron was not helping her either. I think that the blood cells are too small to carry the oxygen and the reserve of iron is normal because it was enough for her small red blood cells.
Avatar f tn s oldest son from a previous relationship has sickle cell anemia, I assume hubby and ex were both carriers. I was tested with my first son and I'm not carrier, our son together doesn't have it. Let your doc know your partner is carrier and that you'd like to be tested.
Avatar f tn it said that if only one parent has the sickle cell gene only the baby will be a carrier (sickle cell trait) he does not have sickle cell disease. No side effects. If both parents have it then the baby has it also. But still it the baby has ir not all experience pain or any type of symptoms.
Avatar f tn I found out that I am a carrier for Sickle cell anemia and that if my partner has it to my son can get it on top of the fact of there being a chance of him being a premature baby he may now have to deal with this.I have also been hospitalized for the past week because I have a thinning cervix. I don't think I can handle anymore bad news.

Avatar f tn Hello, Microscopic hematuria can be due to urinary tract (bladder) infection, swelling in the filtering system of the kidneys ,stone in bladder or in a kidney, blood disease, like sickle cell anemia, certain medicines and tumors in the urinary tract. You have already undergone cystoscopy which has ruled out most of the cases. I suggest you to get done an ultrasound abdomen to look for any kidney stone and blood tests for sickle cell anemia. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn Hi, so I've had CF all my life but recently I've noticed my blood work is lacking in the statistics I need. It's always been pretty bad but never this bad. After further investigation my doctor diagnosed me with Sickle Cell Anemia but I'm wondering if that's even possible! Since they're both inherited you'd think you'd only get one but I don't know. Is it possible, and if not, should I get a second opinion?

Avatar n tn Are you associating the erections with sickle cell anemia? My son had erections from the time he was a baby and my pediatrician just said it was totally normal. Didn't your husband have erections when he was a boy?
Avatar f tn The renal function and liver function needs to be checked as also electrophoresis of hemoglobin to know whether there is thalasemia trait or sickle cell anemia. You need to see if there is vitamin B12 deficiency. Once the cause is found and corrected, anemia will control by itself. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to a hematologist. Take care!

Avatar m tn I suggest you to consult a urologist and get done an ultrasound abdomento look for any kidney stone and blood tests for sickle cell anemia. Avatar f tn You need iron to produce red blood cells. So without iron, you develop anemia (low red blood count) and it makes you feel a little breathless because red blood cells carry oxygen and you have to breathe a little harder and your heart beats become more noticeable. So it sounds like your doctor is on this and has increased your iron supplements? Anemia is very common in pregnancy, by the way, and usually responds pretty quickly to treatment with oral iron supplements.
