Valacyclovir rarely has the liver effects that rorainbow has experienced, and there are no scientific reports that liver problems (or any other adverse effects of valacyclovir) are any more frequent with alcohol intake. If NR was also drinking a bit too much when his enzymes rose, I don't see any reason to invoke valacyclovir as the cause. That would be like a guy getting whacked by a baseball bat and then attributing his headache to a brain tumor.
The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. That difference was not statistically significant and there is no suggestion even for routine liver tests in people taking the drug. I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed.
I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore.
I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger?

What are the contraindications of taking penicillin and valacyclovir during the same cycle ? Can they both be taken on the same day ?
However, it is well documented that valtrex and acyclovir perform very similarly. Valtrex is actually converted into acyclovir by the liver, so essentially, the two drugs act the same way in the body to suppress the virus. If acyclovir improves your quality of life, I would stick with it and explain the similarities to your partner - they are well documented and I expect you can find information in scholarly journals that supports the suppressive activity of acyclovir.

You mention in your previous posts that you've had hsv2 for 25+ years. How frequent are your outbreaks? How were you diagnosed? Were you ever officially typed?
She has not had an outbreak since a year ago and takes meds for it. What is the exposure chances if wearing a condom?
My dr prescribed me with 30 1g of valacyclovir with no instructions on taking them. I took 1g of valacyclovir every day for 30 days. My last day taking valacyclovir was 02-28-18. I took a igG herpeselect blood on 4-3-18 and it was negative. I was told that the antivirals affected my test and i would have to be off of them for 12 weeks. So i tested again for hsv 1 and 2 on 05-24-18 exactly 12 weeks off of antivirals and it was negative.
I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
I had a cold sore for a week and granted I may have taken the loose scab off while washing it. But now after healing, it's dark and a little bit harder and rougher than the rest of my lip. Is it developing a scar? How can I heal it? I also took a medication I was prescribed at the doctor, it's called Valacyclovir. The doctor was very unclear on what she was giving me.
I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby.
Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks.
They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
My story is I contracted HSV2 on the back of my left thigh in the late 1990's not sure where, but it breakout once a year during summer months one time a year. While it was annoying I didn't take anything during the late 2000's I somehow transferred it to my face (confirmed by swab). I didn't want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day.
permitting some small level of risk in the name of sexual satisfaction and a healthy and rewarding relationship -- then I would suggest 1) no sex if and when your partner has an outbreak (a no-brainer), and 2) that your partner take valacyclovir for suppression. The next level of protection beyond that would require 3) consistent condom use for vaginal or anal sex. If I were in your shoes, I would have oral sex (both ways) without protection.

I'm not sure that I understand your response.
1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean?

On the day of the test, I had just got done taking the Valacyclovir for 5 days(that I got online and took on my second, third and fourth outbreak symtoms in April May and July). I had not stopped taking the l-lysine for the whole period as a precaution and to reduce symptoms/outbreaks although its not proven.
As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, that you weren't snooping -- i.e., you ran into your partner's valacyclovir (Valtrex) prescription by accident.
The majority of valacyclovir prescriptions are written for genital herpes. However, it is also prescribed frequently for oral herpes; or perhaps somewhere along the line she had an outbreak of herpes zoster (shingles). But for the rest of this reply let's assume she has genital herpes.
I have also been sexually active, which I was not previously for a while. Is this from rough sex, or is this herpes? When I take valacyclovir it clears in a day or two.
Also, is it normal to be getting recurrences after not having it for years and years?
Daylight second means a huge gap between stress and whatever else contributes to outbreaks. Try to reach that place where you do not care whether you have an outbreak or not and live your life as though you don't have HSV.
I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?

Last Friday 2/12 I went to a strip club, during a private show the stripper unzipped my pants. She placed a condom and performed oral sex and we engaged in vaginal sex. I was quite intoxicated and somewhat blurry. I have no idea about her HIV/STD status or if the condom she used was ok. Although I am pretty sure the condom did not break despite my drunkenness.
I contacted my PCP who believes there is negligible risk for any STD transmission with the exception of HSV-2.
There is always persistent low grade swelling/redness of the glans, discomfort after having sex, itchiness and small superficial ulcers over my glans that come and go and are not very noticeable unless looked on closely.
Is it possible that my herpes is resistant to valacyclovir. BTW, I took brand name only for the first episode (I think), but I have been taking generic ever since.
Anyway, With 2000mg a day of Valacyclovir rushing through my system I have no soares. But have some nerve pain and burning and sourness throughout one side of my private parts, and down my inner leg. The leg area is brand new for me. The other area is not, but never has it continued so long (with or without medication) as it has now.
For most of my life I got Valtrex from a long time on and off again girl friend. We believe we contracted it together.
