Common Questions and Answers about Use of digoxin in children

digitek

Avatar f tn This effect is likely to be caused by reduction of sympathetic activity or increase of parasympathetic activity. Increase of systolic blood pressure during sleep is probably caused by the positive inotropic effect of the drug. Oxygen saturation levels are measured before nebulisation to check the amount of oxygen required to be administered . After the process , the levels are checked to see whether the required levels of above 95 % or more have been reached or not . Hope this helps you .
Avatar f tn Also of particular concern for women is the recent finding that digoxin increases the risk of breast cancer among postmenopausal women. The researchers found that the use of digoxin for at least a year was associated with a 30% greater risk of being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Digoxin has a very narrow threputic window. Many patients start on a dosage of 250 mg per day. But this is often too little for some patients and too much for others.
4703993 tn?1379768388 My electrophysiologist is concerned about beta blockers in general... he now has me on 12.5 of atenolol cut in half.... Ok so I am not getting the side effects at that tiny tiny dose... but it is also doing nothing for my heart rate... he said atenolol is the only beta blocker he is willing to try because it is the least strongest of all.....
Avatar f tn Digoxin and Toprol act in different ways and do not induce the same effects. I have atrial fib and was prescribed amioderone.
Avatar m tn the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time? This discussion is related to SVT medication and its consequences.
Avatar n tn I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family. After talking to my cardiologist and my husband, we decided while trying to get pregnant that I should get off of my medication, Digoxin, and aspirin therapy because it isn't safe for the fetus/baby.
Avatar n tn Since the side-effects are usually related to the length of exposure, we tend not to use this medication in young patients.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar m tn I don't think that atrial fib discriminates by age...i think we have all seen people with it here on the site alot younger then you are. In actuality i think that your age will work for you in whatever decision that you all make in the form of treatment or cure. A cardioversion is just that a treatment for a symtom...it is either done through meds or electrical to re set the electrical of your heart or to hopefully knock it out of atrial fib if you have it persistant.
Avatar n tn Retailers who carry Digitek should return the product to the place of purchase. Overdosing on this drug can be very dangerous. In fact, digoxin was used in a series of murders in the 1980’s and 90’s that were committed by a male nurse who claimed to have killed the patients to “end their suffering”. Digoxin is a generic of digitek and it is the generic that has legal issues.

2021358 tn?1328748117 Beacuse I also have heart problems, the neurologist and cardiologist got together and prescribed DIGOXIN. Altho I have not see anything on the INET about the use of digoxin in auto neuropathy, I don't know why not. It made a tremendous difference in my pulse, bp, and even in decreasing stomache nausea and constipation (stomache is also controlled by vagal nerve). I felt almost normal. Digoxin is the only drug I know of on the market which strengthens the vagal nerve.
Avatar f tn A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective.
Avatar n tn Many of these problems show up after at least 6 months of use; however, if your daughter has SVT diagnosed at the age of 1 year, she will likely need to be on therapy for several years. SVT is a fairly common arrhythmia that we see in children. I can’t tell from the information that I have whether your daughter’s SVT was easily terminated with medication, or not, nor do I know if she has a structurally normal heart or what her ECG looks like.
Avatar n tn The number one mode of transmission is IV Drug use so most children are not exposed to that. Blood transfusion was another common form of transmission, however, all blood is now screened for for hep b & c. I won't say they catch 100% of infected blood but it's pretty close to that. In my opinion, children are less likely to be exposed to hepc. There is a very small (5%?) chance it can be passed in utero to the child from an infected mother.
Avatar f tn I take Metoprolol to lower my HR which is driven by AFib. It helps, and in the beginning gave me a case of too low BP, but that has mostly gone away... my BP is now near normal, again. I am not sure if I feel any more energetic, but I do not have dizzy spells.
Avatar n tn When I got to the hospital they ran tests and noted that I had no level of digoxin in my blood. While in the ER I fell asleep and my heart rate went up to 160bpm. They gave me a beta blocker and a shot of digoxin and told me I had tachycardia. I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily.
787406 tn?1339203183 We always felt that it would be easier to get rid of the pacifier then the thumb. Both of our children used a pacifier. No teeth problems and I don't believe that there is any scientific research showing that it causes a problem. I've got a feeling that you object more to seeing an older kid running around with a pacifier in their mouth.
390388 tn?1279636213 He went so far as to call my cardiologist which I am scheduled to see today anyway and now I have to have the blood test to check for toxicity levels of Digoxin. Not a big deal in the end but it makes one wonder sometimes.
Avatar f tn i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
Avatar f tn I have family member that has been on zanaz and prozac for 3-4 years, has 2 children, I have noticed latley she is slurring her words, driving while medicated with children in car and drinking. Things seem very out of normal and I am very concerned for her welfare aong with the childrens. dr. refuses to give her new RX ....has refered her to phycologist. She has stated she has suffered for years with anxiety attacks, sleeplessness, panic attacks...and also states her mom is on same meds....
Avatar n tn Hi, The doctor has rightly prescribed you lisinopril which plays an important role in cardiomyopathy in improving the functioning of the heart. I’ll also suggest the use digoxin for you which tend to improve the ejection fraction of heart and also improve the symptoms of congestive heart failure and it’s especially used for patients who have low blood pressure. Apart from that, I’ll suggest a low intake of salt and water. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
Avatar n tn onto and then it just keeps firing, that is why the rates are so high. Of all of the problems that children are born with in referrance to the heart, this is a problem that is probably one you would want to have, if you had to pick any at all. At some point the EP doctors will do an ablation on your daughter and she should be fine.
