Uroxatral side effects bph

Common Questions and Answers about Uroxatral side effects bph

uroxatral

Avatar f tn Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Sometimes men continue to have problems and may be candidates for surgical intervention to improve symptoms. Frequently, larger prostates can elevate PSA and lead to biopsy. While there is the possibility that your biopsy will yield cancer, it is likely that the increase in PSA is due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Avatar n tn I can't use Flomax or other alpha blockers due to side effects -- disturbed sleep. Uroxatral even caused me to sleepwalk 15 feet from a nap on the sofa one evening, waking when I fell flat on my face in the next room! Separately, due to a Vitamin D deficiency my doc found, he put me on 50,000 units Vitamin D per week for 8 weeks, followed by biweekly doses. And guess what...the Vitamin D almost instantly "cured" the BPH.
Avatar n tn I am 58 yrs old, have BPH and had not taken medicine for the condition, as symptoms were not that bad. While in S. America in November, I had pain which was thought to be from kidney stones. I was given scopolamine. The doctor didn't ask about BPH and I didn't know that the med had side effects related to prostate. It became hard to urinate any more than small quantities at a time. I began retaining fluids, something that was determined after I returned home to US.
Avatar n tn Hello, Uroxatral contains alfuzosin hydrochloride as the active ingredient and does not contain sulfa. However if it cause any of the side effects like rash, dizziness, shortness of breath or fainting then you should not take it and consult your doctor. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I was very pleased with the benefit and had no side effects. I believe it is the best treatment availabe for BPH patients. Sadly, I cannot find any Urologist here in the Dallas area presently doing it.
Avatar m tn Yes, there are alternative medications that can be used, however each would have its own set of side effects and the choice of medication is best discussed with your treating urologist. Yes, prostatitis could present as enlarged prostate presenting quite similarly, though it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation without a detailed clinical evaluation.
Avatar n tn The prostate is a critical part of male sexual functioning, and treatments can have some very negative side effects, like ED or issues w/ ejaculation, such as ‘retrograde’, which means it flows backward into the bladder instead of out thru the penis. Some guys find this significantly reduces the pleasure of orgasm. I don’t know specifically about Cryotherapy, but I’m sure you can find lots of info about it. There are other therapies for this issue (TURP, etc.
Avatar n tn I am a 40 year old male. I am in perfect health (per my Dr after check up). Ideal weight. Don't smoke or drink, never have. Low fat, high vegetable and grain diet. Exercise regularly. I have no symptoms or complaints of any illness or injury. I never even get heart burn. Have a normal and healthy sex life (married hetero monogamous). Out of the blue ( no pain or injury ) I started to notice blood in my semen.
Avatar m tn Hi there! Despite the previous history and the Gleason score, the preference of one modality of treatment over another would also depend on the stage of the cancer. This is best discussed with his treating urologist/ oncologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn What role, if any, could this medication be playing in this? If it is negatively impacting muscle growth, is there a way to counteract the effects that it is having on my muscle without sacrificing my hair?
Avatar m tn amlodipine, Victrelis (boceprevir) Boceprevir may increase the blood levels and effects of amLODIPine. This can increase the risk of serious side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, fluid retention, swelling, heart failure, and excessively low blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications.
Avatar n tn DEAR JADE321: I HAD PROSTATE CANCER IN 2005. MY PSA WENT FROM 2.3 TO 4.5 IN ABOUT 6-7 MONTHS. I HAD A BIOPSY AND IT WAS PROSTATE CANCER. I HAD PROTON RADIATION TREATMENTS AT LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER IN LOMA LINDA CALIF AND NOW HAVE A PSA OF .03.....WHILE BEING TREATED, I MET SEVERAL OTHERS WHO HAD RISING PSA NUMBERS... LIKE 1.5 TO 3.00 AND HAD BIOPSIES THAT SHOWED PROSTATE CANCER... THE RISING NUMBER IS THE KEY..YOUR SPOUSE NEEDS TO HAVE A BIOPSY ID SAY.
Avatar m tn I would like to here from guys who have had BPH with middle lobe growing into the bladder. What procedure did you get and what side effects came along with it. Has anyone had a uplift for the middle lobe and how did that work out.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn Hello, Flomax is used for the treatment of BPH and if you are having side effects to this drug then you can use other alpha blockers like doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin or 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride. Effects may take longer to appear than alpha blockers, but they persist for many years. But they are available under prescription and should always be taken under a medical guidance. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Flomax (tamsulosin) is a selective alpha blocker used for treating BPH. One of the side effects of this drug is retrograde ejaculation. Normally, the sphincter of the bladder contracts and the ejaculate goes to the urethra. But in retrograde ejaculation the sphincter does not function properly. Once you stop using this drug it’s effect on the sphincter also fades off. I would suggest that you visit your urologist and discuss the above mentioned possibility and follow his advise. Best.
Avatar m tn Well the Prostatitis recurred and coens and goes… I heard about the belt… reluctant to do the flomax hence the side effects…. It really does sucks….
Avatar m tn In fact, nowadays his urinary problems due to BPH had almost subsided, hence he had stopped taking the BPH medication. Its only when he gets the gout attacks for which he has to take voveran, when this problem starts. Would it help to take the BPH medication when he is taking the painkiller for gout? Thanks for the diet & other precautions that you have mentioned. We would try changing the painkillers and hope that it helps. Thanks again for everything. I would get back if required.
Avatar n tn I had same problem, but on 1 tablet a day till I had surgery on prostate (TURP) 8 years ago with no drugs. Google new surgery on Prostate called Razum, popular in US and consultants here not pleased because it can be performed by your GP.
Avatar m tn Please tell you how it went. any side effects pain bleeding ect? Have you had any sexual side effects or incontinence?
Avatar m tn I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? If so what other possibilities are there?
Avatar m tn 8 mg/d of the alpha-blocker tamsulosin but good on flow. I am scared to death to be heading to a TURP for side effects but on the other side very concerned PVR is damaging my bladder due to BPH. Should an 5-alpha reductase be tried with tamsulosin prior to try the surgery? Experience please !! I keep supplementing with saw palmetto, betasitosterol, stinging nettle, pigeum, lycopene, etc ...
Avatar m tn I also have many of the other bad side effects, increased pulse, insomnia, dry mouth, dizziness, and quit a bit others. Has anyone else had these issues and could I possibly not have BPH but some other condition? Any insight would be great, thank you in advance.
