Hi everyone, I have just been diagnosed with adrenal problems but my doctor also wants to test my thyroids with a iodine urine test. All blood tests came back normal so this is another route we are taking. It comes with the bottle to collect the urine, instructions on how to mail the test out and a huge Iodine pill for me to take before the test. I'm just a little confused about what I can and cannot eat 48 hours before the test.

It's been a while and my memory doesn't always serve me correctly, but weren't you already tested for thyroid antibodies, TPOab and TGab? If so, they need not be tested again, unless they were negative and you want to see if they've ramped up since your last test. However, even at that, testing them at 3 month intervals is sort of a waste of money, even if you don't have to pay for them.

I fully understand your panic. I've had 3 cancer scares in the last 3 years - breast, colon, and thyroid. Fortunately, they've turned out to be nothing (although the thyroid thing is still up in the air). Stll, the thought is always there. You might want to ask your doc to run an iodine loading test. I am wondering how my thyroid can be normal but my iodine is really low(abnormal). My PA even said that those two test contradict with each other because they work hand in hand, so how can one be normal with the other abnormal? I had a meeting with a pharmasist today about bioidentical hormones and she said you can test yourself to see if you are deficient in iodine. Rub a circle of iodine tincture on your stomach and if your body absorbs it quikly you are deficient if it lasts all day and all night your good.

My dr. has me schedule for an uptake test on monday the 28 and I was told that I can't have any calcium until after the test. Why? I went and looked at most of the foods that we eat and all them have some type of calcium. I'm going to starve to death. I mean really I can't even have bread for a sandwich, this is so crazy.
