Trileptal off label

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal off label

trileptal

Avatar m tn You may want to post this on Neurology forum if you are using Trileptal for seizure disorder or using it off-label for anxiety, depression or Bipolar Disorder. http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn While not curable, many people find long term pain relief through medications, or surgeries, or alternatives such as Accupuncture. I am unfamiliar with the drug you mentioned. Is it an anti-seizure medication? Most doctors give Tegretol, Trileptal, or gabapentin, anti-seizure drugs used "off label" for Trigeminal neuralgia.
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
Avatar f tn s to hoping Trileptal will take the edge off!!
Avatar f tn Welcome Jules! Glad you found us. In case you haven't find them yet we have Health Pages in the upper right hand corner of this page , next to the yellow icon, they are filled with a wealth of information. Many members on the the board take amitriptyline (Elavil) or nortriptyline (Pamelor) to their does of gabepentin. It seems to be a good adjunct to the gabapentin and increases its effectiveness. There are other drugs that are used "off-label" for pain control in MS.
1322901 tn?1274615330 s an off -label use for an old tricylic antidepressant. It has worked fine along with Trileptal for over a year. However, as time progresses I have break through pain. An added note , nortriptyline ( a cousin to amtriptyline-Elavil) does not mix with many other drugs. I am seeing a pain medicine doc this week to work on this issue. I'll keep you updated.
1011826 tn?1274492712 After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
Avatar n tn Lamictal is weight neutral. A nice slow titration up is important, and you can even start as low as 2.5 mg/day if you need to and very gradually work your way up. Tegretol (carbamazapine) and Trileptal (oxcarbazapine) are weight neutral as far as I can tell from the reading I've done. Trileptal is off label for bipolar, but it apparently has fewer side effects than Tegretol and apparently works just as well.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?
Avatar f tn I was told to begin weaning off my medication (Trileptal). Since reducing the medication by 150 mg, I am once again experiencing TN pain triggered by chewing, talking, washing my face, etc. Is this normal when weaning off anti-seizure medications used for TN?
674607 tn?1240017232 The Phase II study antipsychotic agent I am on glycine is not approved as a medication yet (and has not been studied as a mood stabilizer, I need a mood stabilizer as well) but all of the medications I mentioned are and in the U.S. doctors and psychiatrists can prescribe any medication for off label purposes.
Avatar n tn To take this test my doctor weened me off Trileptal over a three week period. After off the drug for a couple weeks my symptoms returned - full force. Now after two weeks back on, I'm feeling much better. Any ideas?
2047903 tn?1330187549 So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.
1108262 tn?1273179266 After getting a new psych doctor and a therapist, we all decided to work together to get me off of Trileptal, as the pdoc felt it had not really helped me, and the therapist helped me deal with the depression and anxiety as well. Pdoc also was worried about the hyponatremia and "twitches". (These are really weird side effects most people don't get, but I guess I am very sensitive.
1212999 tn?1272305203 I've been taking these two for 2 months. 1800 mg trileptal 10 mg abilify. i'm doing a lot better (rages getting under control, manic moods lowered) but i'm still so depressed. my irritability is still off the charts. do you think adding another med will be the most likely next step or will my doc just keep raising my dosages?
Avatar m tn As I put in previous posts I went through this issue too and have tried everything and was unable to find something tolerable until recently When you are unable to tolerate the standard medications don't assume there is nothing out there. There is. There are just underused or experimental medications. Experimental as in they have been FDA approved for other uses but not for bipolar yet.
Avatar n tn I have been compleatly off this trileptal for 4 days, started weening about 2 months ago. have you ever heard of such a thing like this? and how much longer will it take to get better?
574118 tn?1305135284 It just occurred to me since tegretol/trileptal, lamictal, valproate are mainly anticonvulsants/antiepileptic drugs and used off-label as mood stabilizers i.e. to fix/replace the broken thermostat in our brain, then it could be not the neuro-transmitters which were deficient rather some temporal lobes epilepsy. Has one thought of this, in which case it's more of a physical illness not to be confounded with mental illness.
Avatar m tn My neurologist agreed to recommend Trileptal, but says I am being unrealistic to think I can get off Gabapentin in addition to Tegretol, as I am still experiencing pain using both, and higher doses really affect me in various ways. Since I am a Vet and going through the Veterans Administration, he said that the Trileptol needs to be approved by the pharmacy. If it is not approved, I won't be able to get it.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Usually pdocs who follow the book write one of these 3. The 1st 2 are anticonvulsant but used off-label as MS for BP. Among the three, tegretol is the mildest in my view in that it doesn't have the more serious side effects of the other 2. Especially being a girl depakine / depakote causes ovarian cyst among other things. The only drawback of tegretol is that it interacts greatly with many other drugs so it's not recommended for geriatric since older pts consume many drugs.
1967424 tn?1325633780 s mainly side effects that are bothering you, trileptal is related but has fewer side effects, although bipolar is an off-label use of trileptal. Lamictal is good for depression. There's also the atypical antipsychotics, like seroquel and geodon, or the third generation antipsychotic abilify. They all have mood stabilizing properties, although most of them can cause weight gain.
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
