trileptal and leg cramps

Yes, I have used for TN and simultaneous leg pain. It works well with few side effects (drowsy at first which resolves with use).

At first it was fine, but then i noticed noticed some leg irritation and muscle tightness. That went away and now its light weakness and numbness in the left side of my body. I am taking 1200 mg and am supposed to see a neurologist tomorrow hoping he will take it off. Any advice or feedback???

I was put on cymbalta last october and it has seemed to hep tremedously with the hip and leg pain.... Maybe it might help.

I was lucky and after 3 procedures have been pain free and medication free for almost 4 years. So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.

That's very interesting! I havent heard of seizure meds being used for MS. Although I am on Keppra now for a week due to recent seizures. I have been wondering all along if I have MS although testing thus far has not proven so. Erica mentioned side effects, I have to agree: i couldn't take trileptal and now seem to be having some problems with Keppra and am on a very very low dose 125mg twice daily, supposed to increase tomorrow but think I will wait another week before I do.

It is possible that Trileptal might have been suppressing some spasticity in you leg. Trileptal is an anti seizure medication that inhibits sodium channel function. Are you taking Zanaflex or Baclofen? They are used to control spasticity resulting from spinal or supra-spinal muscle activation. If not, you may benefit from replacing the higher cost Oxcarbazepine with with Baclofen which is a GABA derived drug with a lower cost and is more specific to spasticity.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced swollen glands and itchy eyes when taking trileptal? I've only been on it now for 3wks and am currently on 75mg along with 375mg of Keppra twice daily. I don't have a rash but am wondering if this is just a cold or side effect from meds. I called the nurse yesterday at docs office they suggested being checked out by PMD, any suggestions? I dont have a fever or any other symptoms? Thanks for the feedback.

Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?

I currently take Trileptal (oxcarazepine) for TN and leg pain in addition to nortriptyline. At the dose I am on there are few side effects. Higher doses of nortriptyline caused too much dry mouth as did amitripline. Other drugs include Cymbalta. I don't remember with certainty but I think there is a page on MS drugs and one on paraesthias. Good luck as you try to find the right combination. The different trials of combinations are worth the effort in the end.

Hi. I was diagnosed with ATN 14 years ago. The pain has been well-controlled with neurontin until 3 weeks ago. I had an exacerbation of pain, most likely brought on by dental work. The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now.

d feel when someone scratches their nails down a chalkboard. They started in my left foot and shot up that leg. Over the years they have spread up my torso, head and right extremities. I had a test done with electrodes attached to my body and there is definite nerve damage more predominant in the left side of my body. My symptoms seem to have a pattern of flare ups and remissions that last for months. When I am in a remission, I feel healthy and normal.

Its not just my calf muscle, but my ankle and tops of my feet too. How are leg cramps and diabetes associated? I am a diabetic, but have been controlling my BS levels pretty well. At diagnosis my A1C was 11.5 and at my last check up I had it down to 5.9. (although it might not be quite that good at my next check up, I know it is nowhere near that high of a reading) Any suggestions on relief from the leg cramps?

Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your reply, I ve taken a holiday by the beach i went for swiming walking trying to laugh and forget about my problems and it helped a lot, Now with the calmepam i have reduced the dose gradually i started to take half of the tablet for 5 days then i stopped for 2 days then i started to take quarter of the tablet every two days till i stopped now (almost from 5 days) is it okay?.

After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!

it never fails i always wake up with this pain of an intense charlie horse in my leg and it hurts to stretch it....but mine isnt swollen and i have no idea how to make it stop...i just wanted to tell u....ur not alone! lol and its horrible! hang in there!

Is there anyone suffering from leg cramps? I had one the other day and this morning. I get leg cramps only in my left leg. I don't understand! I'm scared to even sleep in bed because I was told it happens when your leg is relaxed. Please help!

My legs cramp when I walk and my bones hurt lots but the lungs I don't get but ehatvi do get is where it feels like my throat is swelling and I can't breath.

Walking/excersize helps to get your circulation back to normal and the leg cramps will calm down abit I used to get them when sleeping

I get them here and there, but only in my right leg .

Drink more water and eat food high in potassium.I had a terrible charlie horse one morning and decided to walk it off. Bad idea! My leg hurt for a good 3-4 days afterwards!

Has anyone had problems with leg cramps on Tomoxifin? I was on Arimidex for 3 years and had extreme viginal dryness to the point of very painfull intercourse. Changed to Tomoxifin and my OBGYN prescribed Vagifem and problem solved for the dryness. BUT... now I have leg cramps all night long if I have been on my feet at all during the day. I had blood tests done and it showed low sodium, potasium and the BIN alittle low.

i remember waking up in the middle of the night with the worst leg cramps and i would get out of bed and hobble to the bathroom to stand on the cold tile floor and they are outta there!

I was eating one a day to help w cramps, and they caused me to be really constipated. Try water and stretching.
