Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal medication

trileptal

Avatar f tn Trileptal is an anticonvulsant (used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar), and Lexapro is an antidepressant called an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). If you are having problems with mania you might want to talk to your doctor about adding an antipsychotic. There are so many too many to list and there can be so many different combinations too. You should talk to your doctor about the specific symptoms you are having...
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
Avatar m tn Being female -- I can't answer your question about ED. I do know that I tried gabapentin -- didn't work, Tegretol (Carbamezepine) didn't work. But Trileptal worked well. It DID cause nausea and drowsiness. The pain doc said to take it a half-hour to an hour before eating and that resolve the nausea. He also advised taking a No-Doz (equal to 1 cup of coffee) along with the daytime doses -- and that took care of most of the drowsiness.

Avatar m tn My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????
728313 tn?1260459629 t have epilepsy, but my questions is what happens to you possible long term effects from taking it;s medication. I had a Shoppers Drug Mart give me Trileptal 300mg instead of my medication. My memory had changed some what and don't know if it's from it or not. No one has an aswer to why I am still living after taking those meds? For 5 days I had to put up with barely keeping my eyes open and my husband couldn't wake me for two hours?
1212999 tn?1272305203 Trileptal was not quite that effective for me although every person reacts differently to each medication. If the Trileptal is raised you may encounter these side effects at an increased rate. It might make sense for your psychiatrist to add another medication but there may be some interactions so he might want to change or adjust the medications you are on but that's their decision. This is a list of all current mood stabilizers that you could discuss with them: http://www.psycheducation.
Avatar m tn I was on Trileptal for a while. After that my psychiatrist transferred me to Lamictal. It took some time to have the withdrawal symptoms to pass (and the efficacy of the other medication to start) but it settled after some time. Generally things begin to improve within a few weeks. As long as you followed your psychiatrist's titration schedule it should be fine. Keep your psychiatrist updated on how you are doing and they will know how to follow up.
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I know they can handle themselves, but I feel as if I am the protector. The medication I take is Trileptal 150mg and Seroquel 50mg. I have no problems with the Trileptal its the seroquel I dont want to take because of the groggy, zombie rush me into sleep feeling.
1011826 tn?1274492712 After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
2047903 tn?1330187549 I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I was told to begin weaning off my medication (Trileptal). Since reducing the medication by 150 mg, I am once again experiencing TN pain triggered by chewing, talking, washing my face, etc. Is this normal when weaning off anti-seizure medications used for TN?
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar n tn I also experienced aches and pains along with body tremors. You should speak to your doctor about perhaps clonazepam or some kind of medication to ease you through this time. It can be done. What medication will you be taking in place of trileptal? if any?
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. I have never cmopletely blacked out, only partially. The hand shaking was really weird, and seizure was the first thing that came to mind. Do my symptoms sound like something that could casue this? What does this medication do that you mentioned above?
Avatar f tn t listed. Meds like Abilify, Trileptal, Tegretol, Seroquel, Resperidol......I think those are some that should be added! Thanks!
Avatar m tn I withdrew of off the trileptal first and the geodon second. As i started withdrawing off of the trileptal i started to feel numb in my head. It is now about nine months later and the same annoying feeling is still there. My question is if withdrawing from the medication in the way i did was the cause of this numbness. I was on this medication for about six months prior to that with no numbness or bad side effects, just the inability so sit still and focus.
Avatar f tn I too took Tegretol and gained weight (35 lbs in 3 wks). I thought I would never lose it but after my body became used to the drug, this took about 6 months, I was able to lose the weight quit quickly with an easy walking plan. It only took about about a month. In the end it was the only medication that would stop 4 of my 11 seizures so in my opinion --the wait was worth it.
Avatar f tn Before the surgery he started on Keppra to control the seizures which did not work. Then Trileptal was added but still did not work so Depakote added finally mostly kept the seizures to a few minor ones a day. After the totally successful surgery to remove the tumor he was kept on the Depakote as a precaution for an undetermined length of time. It is now 6/ 11 and my grandson is doing fine except that his behavior is altered and it seems to have begun only recently(a couple of weeks).
Avatar f tn in 2000 i was diagonosed with biopolor disorder i had my assorment of drug theropy i ended with a cocktale of trileptal, trazadone and lexapro when i found out i was pregnat in 2004. They took me off all my meds and have been med free until about 6 months ago when i went completely off the wall...They then put me on lexapro and ativan.. I went to a psychiotrist 3 weeks ago who took me off both of those meds and put me on Seroquel 150mg and trileptal 1200mg.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?
Avatar n tn I ran out about 2 weeks ago and when I went to pick up my medication they would not give it to me because I did not have the money. I have been having explosive episodes on the people I love. Is this normal and what are other side effects I should expect?
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar f tn He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
