Trileptal seizure medication

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal seizure medication

trileptal

Avatar m tn I was on Trileptal for a while. After that my psychiatrist transferred me to Lamictal. It took some time to have the withdrawal symptoms to pass (and the efficacy of the other medication to start) but it settled after some time. Generally things begin to improve within a few weeks. As long as you followed your psychiatrist's titration schedule it should be fine. Keep your psychiatrist updated on how you are doing and they will know how to follow up.
Avatar f tn I was told to begin weaning off my medication (Trileptal). Since reducing the medication by 150 mg, I am once again experiencing TN pain triggered by chewing, talking, washing my face, etc. Is this normal when weaning off anti-seizure medications used for TN?
Avatar n tn However, as with all antiepileptic drugs, it should be taken regularly or as prescribed by your doctor, since if it is not, and you forgot and withdrew from the drug abruptly, the potential of increased seizure frequency happens. More information about Trileptal can be found in this link: http://www.mims.com/Page.aspx?menuid=mng&brief=false#Contraindications Sometimes, it is also important to note the special triggers that cause unexpected seizures.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. I have never cmopletely blacked out, only partially. The hand shaking was really weird, and seizure was the first thing that came to mind. Do my symptoms sound like something that could casue this? What does this medication do that you mentioned above?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a problem with a seizure medicine causing irreversible weight gain? My daughter was a thin child, who took Tegretol for seizures, and gained a large amount of weight in a short time. We stopped the medication, but the weight did not reduce.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?
Avatar n tn The doctor ordered Valium 2 mg because he thought it was seizure related, but the Valium does not help. He was in the ER for 5 hours during the weekend. Believe it or not Benadryl helped him. This might occur 2-3 times per day while in school. He cannot swallow. He does not drool and not having body movements or anything else that resembles a seizure. No pain involved and no spasm of the tongue. Student takes Geodan, Trileptal, Resperdal, Prevacid, and Concerta. He is 19 years old.
Avatar n tn My son had his first seizure in Dec 07. He is 7 years old. He had a grand mal seizure in the morning while he was sleeping. He had another at the ER in which he would just turn blue and his oxygen would drop. They started him on Tripletal, but after about 4 days he wasn't doing good at all. He had another seizure where he would just lose bladder control and be out of it. We went back to the ER and they went from 100mg of Trileptal to 350mg in one dose.
Avatar f tn My five year old grandson had his first seizure on 3/21 and surgery to remove a benign left frontal astrocytoma on 5/11. Before the surgery he started on Keppra to control the seizures which did not work. Then Trileptal was added but still did not work so Depakote added finally mostly kept the seizures to a few minor ones a day. After the totally successful surgery to remove the tumor he was kept on the Depakote as a precaution for an undetermined length of time.
959034 tn?1253671476 Though on this medicine I could go a year or two without a seizure. My longest span was 7 years and might have been longer except my father passed away. I had surgery last year and it put me straight into menopause and I was having pass out seizures instead of Grand mal. They were starting to scare me so a new neurologist put me on Keppra as an additive to the Depakene and I have been doing well now. I wish there was a cure. My sister has Multiple sclerosis.
Avatar n tn Do you know if trileptal has the same side effects? I take that and was on tegratol for years. I have really bad headaches.
Avatar f tn While not curable, many people find long term pain relief through medications, or surgeries, or alternatives such as Accupuncture. I am unfamiliar with the drug you mentioned. Is it an anti-seizure medication? Most doctors give Tegretol, Trileptal, or gabapentin, anti-seizure drugs used "off label" for Trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn Trileptal is an anticonvulsant (used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar), and Lexapro is an antidepressant called an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). If you are having problems with mania you might want to talk to your doctor about adding an antipsychotic. There are so many too many to list and there can be so many different combinations too. You should talk to your doctor about the specific symptoms you are having...
233622 tn?1279334905 I have been on Tegretol for about 14 years...firstly for seizure control, secondly for pain management for Paratrigeminal Neuralgia (which differs from trigeminal neuralgia). I was intrigued by this drug when I saw your post so I looked into it. The following is copied and pasted from a website explaining anti-seizure meds... "The seizure control abstained with Trilepital is as good and in some situations better than with Tegretol.
Avatar m tn You may want to post this on Neurology forum if you are using Trileptal for seizure disorder or using it off-label for anxiety, depression or Bipolar Disorder. http://www.medhelp.
1374874 tn?1278686480 With all of the anti-seizure meds (gabapentin, Tegretol, Trileptal, etc) you have to increase the dose slowly according to your doctor's instructions to get pain relief. That said, I did not do well on Tegretol -- it made me a zombie and did not help my pain. But everyone is different. I ended up on Trileptal -- it has less side effects than Tegretol. I took 3 doses of 600 mg per day to stop my pain.
664798 tn?1225821618 This is the first time I've seen anyone in here ask this question,....uh....Apparently it can and does effect your siezure condition if your meds are of a specific type, I had a severe epsiode back in december 08 and had to be put in a COMA because of the fact that I began hallucinating badly after I had just stopped tasking the chantix. I stopped taking chantix because of the nightmares it caused me,...Nightmares I'd rather forget about,.....
Avatar n tn 30am i was talking to my friend on the phone long distance and all i remember was i had paramedics all around me and they said i had a seizure or i over dosed on my medication because the bottles were empty... BUT I DID NOT OVERDOSE.... Now i am at the hospital waiting to get seen, the doctor finally sees me about 7 hours later well she did not take me serious and just sent me home tells me to get some rest.
505751 tn?1225032462 Just wanted to ask if anyone is on or has taken Trileptal. My neuo office called me at work last week and said the EEG showed I could have a seizure at anytime and needed to start this medication ASAP, it might be temporal lobe epilepsy, not sure what else they will have to do to find out for sure. I started on the medication that day. Spent Friday and Monday working from home because I wasn’t sure how the drug would make me feel.
Avatar f tn He said a person predisposed to seizures will have seizures. I just think it's strange she did not have a seizure until the bipolar medication.
1559533 tn?1308948561 I take Depakote and Trileptal for Neuropathic pain. I do not think they would make a diagnosis more difficult. They had me take them when I had a EEG and other sensory testing. They did not hinder my basic Neurological testing reflexes and such. My personal feeling is if you can get relief from symptoms before a diagnosis that is good. Why suffer more than you have to?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Its possible but it could also be caused by stopping the medication to quickly - called withdraws. i would suggest to him about seeing his doctor do what ever you can to get him there and go with him and suggest your concerns.
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
Avatar m tn Being female -- I can't answer your question about ED. I do know that I tried gabapentin -- didn't work, Tegretol (Carbamezepine) didn't work. But Trileptal worked well. It DID cause nausea and drowsiness. The pain doc said to take it a half-hour to an hour before eating and that resolve the nausea. He also advised taking a No-Doz (equal to 1 cup of coffee) along with the daytime doses -- and that took care of most of the drowsiness.
233622 tn?1279334905 I have had lots of seizure meds, due to a seizure disorder which has since disappeared, thankfullly. I've been on trileptal, topomax, lamotrigene, keppra, gabapentin(neurontin) and lyrica. Side effects made me stop the first three, a suspected side effect stopped me from taking the keppra, though we know now that it wasn't the med (my facial sensory stuff), I have only been given the last two for nerve pain.
Avatar n tn Neither showed anything although as soon as we left from the EEG and got to the car and after 10 minutes she had another complex partial seizure. Last night, she was scanning tv channels and she knew she should stop scanning because her head was feeling weird and then thee next thing she remembers was me at her bed and she didn't know how she got there---she had actually walk over to me, told me she didn't feel good and I took her to her room and she said she was wanted to lie down...
Avatar f tn I am on medication. I am taking Trileptal and I am eating 3 each day and 3 each night.
