Trileptal and nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and nerve pain

trileptal

Avatar f tn I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist? Is it possible that this face numbness/tingling sensations are symptoms of MS? FYI I am a 33 yr old female.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been given this for nerve pain? I am just about to start this medication. I am already taking Avonex.
Avatar n tn Trileptal can be very effective against nerve pain for some people with MS (and people with nerve pain from other causes as well). The fact that your symptoms returned when you were weaned off the drug is a good sign that it's working for what ails you. I'm glad it is still being prescribed for you. If you feel comfortable sharing, has the Trileptal helped symptoms in addition to pain for you? I also am very curious to know what you mean by your LP was only 2/3 conclusive.
Avatar f tn He is not against Morphine I take it for Cancer. There are several drugs for nerve pain Lyrica, Gabenpentin, Trileptal, and few others. For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic. It might take awhile to get the right combination and dosage. It took me two years to get on the combination that works.
2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor is looking at both of these drugs (one at a time) to help control my TN pain levels (as well as for other forms of nerve pain.) Gabapentin was making me feel too drugged, so I stopped taking it. Low and behold, I am in pain. No shock there. (Pun intended.) The drug side effect lists are scary for both of them. If any of you have experience with either of these drugs, I need help deciding what side effects I can handle. Increased facial hair was a big one for dilantin. Yikes!!
Avatar f tn I am wondering if there is another med for nerve pain besides Lyrica and Neurontnin? I have tried both. I am taking 200mg of Lyrica 2x a day right now and I feel like I have a 9 volt battery stuck to my tongue. I have 8-10 other random hot needle spots right now among tingling and other typical annoying parasthesias. I did just finish a steriod treatment and have trouble coming down from it.
Avatar f tn Thank you so very much.....I do have muscle and nerve damage.....I take gab.for my pain,I don't get siezures. I also take baclofen.my legs get stiff when I don't take the gab 3x a day . Alex my medicine cabinet is starting to look like a mini pharmacy. Monday I will call a pain management clinic to hear other options. What do you take the trileptal for?
306245 tn?1244384967 It was the first time in 15 or more years that I could jump without any pain. So we went and had the nerve cut, however it didn't work it just spread the pain out over my foot more. I have been on every pain medication known to man. they either make me vomit or very sleepy. (that is the lowest doesage too) I have 4 boys to take care of 1 is a cardiac little guy so I need to be alert. the last pain medication I was on was Trileptal.
5466288 tn?1410485185 There are many medications that can help for nerve pain. It just depends on which works for you. There is Lyrica, Neurotin, Tegretol, and Trileptal to name a few. There are many conditions which cause PN some Neurological some not.
Avatar f tn She said it was nerve pain and told me to get my neurologist on board and sent me on my way..with very bad pain. You talk about depressed..yet trying to keep it to myself, so my husband and kids don't think I'm just dreaming things up. It does you no good to visually look well, (still on your feet). People just assume you are "lucky" of all the diseases to have this one. How stupid!
Avatar n tn For TN that is not due to a specific cause, treatments that have been helpful include as you mentioned elavil and lyrica, as well as other medications such as trileptal, carbamazepine, and neurontin. The latter 3 were originally developed as a treatment for seizures but have been found very useful in TN. Other less commonly used medications include phenytoin (dilantin), a seizure medication, and antidepressants such as cymbalta.

" We have had a heat wave in Australia 40 degree and power cuts so no air con ...man I have heavy legs.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I was lucky and after 3 procedures have been pain free and medication free for almost 4 years. So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.
Avatar n tn I went to a teaching hospital in a large city nearby and found a Facial Pain specialist who deals with facial pain patients on a daily basis. He helped me tremendously and I have been pain free and medication free for the last 4 years. Take care and let us know how you are doing. Your story may help others here on the site.
1523516 tn?1330044257 ON is demyelination of the 2nd cranial nerve. Pain with ON tends to go on for a few days and is worse when looking laterally. You would also normally loose color perception and visual acuity with ON. The duration of the pain also seems to be too short for a cluster headache or migraine. It might be a vascular event or partial seizure, I guess. You should ask your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn Yes, I have used for TN and simultaneous leg pain. It works well with few side effects (drowsy at first which resolves with use).
2131900 tn?1335656259 4 mos after surgery the pain has been getting worse ive had 2 emgs(very painful) bone scans, just all kinds of tests the drs keep trying new meds neurontins, cymbalta, trileptal and lyrica i also have twitches all over since surgery i even get them in my butt the meds are not helping but the tests show im alright yet i cant hold a coffee cup with one hand, i just dont know what to do
Avatar f tn Which is bascilyall around severe nerve and muscle pain in your bladder and the entire pelvic area! Like I did say I have tooth pain and its bad and throbbing my whole left side of my face. I have to get a ton of fillings done and a lot of crowns and 2 extractions and 2 inplants and I just detoxed 20 days ago. I feel a lot better but the pain and future pain is thhe problem. Should I only take it whe I have pain? I know it freaking addictive and that pisses me off.
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
359574 tn?1328360424 I am finishing my week of no medication for my TN after tapering off the Trileptal, and my neuro-opthalmalogist wants to start me on Lyrica. I am very concerned about gaining weight on it (if my insurance company even approves it.) I have been very carefully following WW and have lost 35 pounds since August. The Lyrica site says something like 10-16% of people do gain, so I wonder if board members have been experiencing this.
645390 tn?1338555377 I looked up Trileptal and it does not list paraesthesias or abnormal skin sensations as a side effect. I don't know if it will help your situation but when I rub the area where my occurs it seems to help, possibly by diverting some of the nerve sensation to the new stimulus- the rubbing of the skin in the surrounding area.
Avatar m tn There are two kinds of pain with MS muscle spasms and nerve pain. You can also have secondary pain from gait problems such as favoring one side such as hip or knee pain. For muscle spasm they can give you a muscle relaxer like Baclofen and Zyprexa. For nerve pain they can use something such as Gabenpentin, Lyrica, Trileptal. I have a lot of pain so I was sent to a pain clinic. Dealing with pain will not cover up a MS diagnosis. I wish I had done it before a diagnosis.
Avatar m tn My daughter had an upper respiratory infection, strep throat and after starting antibiotics a few days later developed an ear infection that took two rounds of antibiotics to kick. When she was almost done with the medicine she started having facial pain on the same side of ear infection. Has had MRI and taken meds for the neuralgia to no avail. Seeing Neurologist tomorrow. My question is why did an ear infection cause this? Could it be a vascular compression problem?
