Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar m tn Does Trigeminal Neuralgia worsen with age. I've tried Tegretol but the pain has some back agaiin after about a year and is very, very intense. It is like a needle made of glass penetrating the right side of my nose and going into my head. What is the best treatment for this and can it be cured completely. Avatar n tn Hi, probably this is trigeminal neuralgia. “It is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. It is estimated that 1 in 15,000 people suffer from trigeminal neuralgia, although those numbers may be significantly higher due to frequent misdiagnosis. TN usually develops after the age of 40, although there have been cases with patients being as young as three years of age”. Taken from website http://en.
Avatar n tn Dear Friend, Trigeminal Neuralgia is a really painful condition. However the lesion in your white matter may not linked with the same.If , after numerous MRI's nothing conclusive has been found about your brain's white matter lesions, then it's better to pause the things. However the alarming thing is the sporadic weakness in your legs.I would suggest you to get a MRI screening of the full back.Maybe it will reveal more findings rather than multiple brain MRI's.
Avatar n tn Hi all My age is 23, I am suffering from Trigeminal neuraljia since 7 years. It started with frequent electric shock like attacks in my left jaw. As usual we went to a dentist and later came to know that it is TN. We consulted a neurologist who diagnosed it as TN.I also went through CT scan and MRI which came out to be normal. My period of attacks were very infrequent 4 or 5 times in a day. I started with carbamazepine 200 mg 3 times a day.
Avatar m tn I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia and am currently taking BACLOFEN to help with the pain. I was treated with the Gamma Knife about a year ago without success. A friend also had TN and was treated with an alcohol shot to the face that had to be repeated about 4 weeks later. That was over 10 years ago and he has had NO pain since. I can find only passing references to the alcohol shot to the face. My question is where can I go to get this alcohol shot to the face?

Avatar f tn I have what is called Paratrigeminal Neuralgia and it is related to Trigeminal Neuralgia which this could be related to. I am also thinking that it could be a paresthesia which is caused by nerves in your face. I think this is something worth mentioning to your neuro next time you see one.

Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn I went to see the neurologist yesterday and he told me that he has never seen anyone my age that had trigeminal neuralgia. Also that the pain I am describing is slightly different... mine is a lightning bolt that comes every 5 seconds. unlike trigeminal which is a sharp pain that lasts a few minutes and then a slight numbing pain that last an hour or so till the next pain. I'm getting an MRI on my brain December 12th.
Avatar n tn I've only had trigeminal neuralgia since Dec 17, 2008 and am 47 years old. I was told I'm "fairly young" for this disease, but I also have multiple sclerosis, so that may have been a contributing factor. Your son is much younger than me and that may be a big factor in what a doctor may advise. My advice is that your son find a doctor who specializes in TN, preferably at a teaching hospital in the nearest big city.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.

Avatar n tn Please help, my 19 yr old last oct 2007 suddenly developed a purple rash on right side of face. Her face felt tight and unable to move that side and her mouth on that side. She had severe pain and a severe headache. This lasted several days. The local ER said it was an infection and gave here antibiotics. The same thing happened again in Feb 08. (she is a college student at RIT in NY). This time the ER did a cat scan and then said it was trigeminal.
Avatar m tn Would someone who has Trigeminal Neuralgia please help me out with the progression of this condition. For about a week now - I have numbness above my left eye that seems to have gotten worse everyday - first my eyebrow, then my forehead and now my skull. I have a low grade headache at times and when I lift my eyebrow, pain shoots up my forehead and skull, although not intense pain. I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering for 2-1/2 years with oral facial pain. It began on the left and is now bilateral. I get severe, constant pain in the upper gums, teeth, cheeks, temples, jaws, neck. At times there are sharp twinges, but mostly it is a deep, constant ache. I have had close to pain-free moments, but just when i think I'm cured, it flares up. I have had 2 diagnosis. TMJ with osteoarthritis of the jaw joints and cervical spine. The other diagnosis is from a neurologist.
1475492 tn?1332884167 An interesting aspect is that this form affects both men and women equally and can occur at any age, unlike typical trigeminal neuralgia, which is seen most commonly in women. Though TN and ATN most often present in the fifth decade, cases have been documented as early as infancy. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
Avatar m tn I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain. Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..
