Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia worse at night

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn The Trigeminal Nerves (CN 5 - Left and Right) go all the way back to the Pons near the top of the brain stem. Brain stem lesions, depending where they lie, can effect both the left and right trigeminal nerves. I have pain on both sides and, by the way, I have no visible infratentorial lesions, but my doctor believes that they are there. So yep...you can get pain on both sides. My right is where it started and has always been worse than the left.
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar m tn I just had a nerve block procedure done for my trigeminal neuralgia pain in my face. My face was sore but after 3 days, the pain in my face became more painful and I felt more electrical current shooting onto my lower teeth area. Why does it seem like my facial pain just got worse after this procedure.

Avatar n tn All pain is on the right side. He made me a mouthpiece to try for few days at night to see if I am clenching/grinding my teeth. He talked with me about the possibility of needing a root canal on front tooth under bridge or the possibility of trieminal neuralgia. I woke up today with a headache on the right side of my head around my temple and numbness in my nose on the right side. I have shooting pains that last a few minutes and are along my upper jaw as well as lower jaw.

Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is quite uncommon in people with paranasal sinusitis. Despite what is commonly believed, facial pain is unlikely to be caused by sinus disease, especially in the absence of any nasal symptoms or signs. Yet the history of long standing relief of pain following antibiotic therapy prescribed by the ENT for sinusitis must not be ignored.

Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar n tn Has your mother seen a Neurologist for evaluation? I had Trigeminal Neuralgia after shingles on my face, and the pain is worse than anything I've ever felt before. She definately needs to be checked out.
Avatar n tn You should ask your PCP for a referral to a neurologist or a facial pain specialist. There is pre-Trigeminal neuralgia which manifests as a toothache. Many people have unnecessary dental work done thinking the pain is caused by their teeth, when in reality it's the nerve. Hot or cold compresses can give temporary relief. I've also used Oragel rubbed on the teeth and gums to numb the pain temporarily. Let us know how you're doing.

1776315 tn?1314350672 It sounds like trigeminal neuralgia. Is that what they are calling it? That is just awful. Do a search on here for trigeminal neuralgia. Maybe somebody has written about how they got the nerve to calm down. Hope so.
Avatar f tn i first noticed a tightening in my eye and a bit of a runny eye when i was on the computer. after a week i had the tight feeling in my eye all day and especially at night when my eye feels very tired (other eye completely normal). i also have a sore bridge of nose on right side (same as eye) sharp shooting pain on the same side of my head at the top and temple and a very sore gum at the top of one of my back teeth (all on the same side of my face, nothing on the other side).
738075 tn?1330575844 I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! I told my DH "just take me out back and shoot me like an old horse!" I was kidding, but kinda serious, too!
Avatar m tn Differentials will be a migraine headache, trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, carotidynia and tension headaches. Trigeminal neuralgia is associated with a severe pain over the temples, the cheeks ,and over the jaw.The pain may be debilitating and may be aggravated by light touch , brushing the teeth or combing your hair. Carotidynia may be pain over the neck and temples. There are a few types and they may be due to an underlying viral infection.
