trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn At the start I was fine but I started to get a pain up and down the left side of my head with nystagmus and tachycardia which was diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia. The neurologist also pointed out that I had a lesion in the pons area of my brainstem which I said must have been when I was drinking heavy. He discharged me and I thought nothing of it but gradually the pain has moved into the middle of my head as well as the left side and getting double vision off. Could this lesion be new?
Avatar m tn After 2 years sober started getting shooting pains going up and down left side of head and then nystagmus started which neurologist diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia. Was discharged a few months but pain is now spreading to the middle of head.and am also getting double vision. It doesnt sound like neuralgia. Worried im getting another lesion. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Avatar f tn Dear susanjillian422, What you are describing sounds so very terrifying and painful! Have they checked you for trigeminal neuralgia? That's what that sounds like to me (Im a nurse by the way). I hope you can find relief soon, as losing your vision is one of the worst things that can happen to someone.
Avatar f tn ( 22 y/o F About 9 months ago, I started getting headaches — sharp, quick — and was eventually diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia in March. Between those months I had an episode in October of 10% vision loss w/ new onset of floaters - cleared by ophtho and told normal. In February 2018 I started with eyelid twitching for minutes at a time and it has been daily since. A few weeks later, this twitching started in my calves and feet.
568263 tn?1216797903 I am 29 and now on a waiting list to receive Microvascular Decompression to treat Trigeminal Neuralgia. Will there be much pain after the opperation? as i have children age 2 and 4 to care for when i return home.
1475492 tn?1332884167 An interesting aspect is that this form affects both men and women equally and can occur at any age, unlike typical trigeminal neuralgia, which is seen most commonly in women. Though TN and ATN most often present in the fifth decade, cases have been documented as early as infancy. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia by my doctor but I seem to be getting symptoms not mentioned under neuralgia.

Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar f tn Hi, Sharp stabbing pains of short duration may be a cluster headache, paroxysmal hemicrania, a trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia and migraine headaches with aura. Cluster headaches and paroxysmal hemicrania may present with severe short stabbing pain almost like "ice pick" pains that may involve the eye.Is there any associated eye redness, eye tearing or nasal disharge with your condition? The pain of trigeminal neuralgia usually involves the temples and the face.
Avatar f tn For those of you with trigeminal neuralgia, would you mind me asking you what it feels like? I have been assuming, for a while, that what I have in my face is bilateral trigeminal neurlagia. But, perhaps I'm wrong.
Avatar m tn I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. Within the last two months, I have been experiencing burning and pain in my right foot (including toes). I am taking oxcarbazepine, is this a side affect or does it mean I need to increase the dose.
Avatar n tn You need to be investigated for trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis. Trigeminal neuralgia is a nerve disorder that causes a stabbing electric shock like pain in parts of face. Various possible causes are multiple sclerosis and pressure on the nerve from a swollen blood vessel. Pain may be triggered by touch, sounds, chewing and light touch on face. Certain blood tests, MRI brain and trigeminal reflex testing apart from a neurological examination are required.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering for 2-1/2 years with oral facial pain. It began on the left and is now bilateral. I get severe, constant pain in the upper gums, teeth, cheeks, temples, jaws, neck. At times there are sharp twinges, but mostly it is a deep, constant ache. I have had close to pain-free moments, but just when i think I'm cured, it flares up. I have had 2 diagnosis. TMJ with osteoarthritis of the jaw joints and cervical spine. The other diagnosis is from a neurologist.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar f tn I believe I have some trigeminal neuralgia also. At least my chiro says I do and with as bad as my TMJ is I wouldn't doubt it. I also have a really bad neck so I wonder how many symptoms are from those two alone... It's hard to be in limboland isn't it? I don't even know what kind of Dr. to see next.
Avatar f tn I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side.
Avatar n tn I know that occipital neuralgia ( eye TN ) has ruinded peoples lives . Go to you tube, type in trigeminal neuralgia, and you will seee videos of a man who suffered from this ..........let me know how thing's go for you . Good Luck, I know the pain .
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar n tn Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) rarely occurs with sinusitis but it has been described. The persistent congestion and your severe headache suggest that, despite the "clear" sinus x-rays you may have sinusitis or an infection of the sinus that has extended beyond the sinus walls. That you are still ill suggests a possible infectious complication. You would do well to consult with an ENT specialist and have a CT scan of your sinuses and the adjacent areas. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Trigeminal neuralgia may be presented with typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
467070 tn?1224625377 I have been to 3 neurologist, 2 oral surgeons, 1 endodontic specialist, and they all agree that that its Traumatic Trigeminal Neuralgia from being butchered by the dentist. He did not know what the hell he was doing, and should have sent me to an oral surgeon. HE caused this. Narcotics do not work. I am scheduled for a nerve block, and if that does not work, my neurologist is already talking surgery. The tooth extraction that I had back in March was BRUTAL.
