trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar n tn Then large lumps under arm began, antibiotics did not work and had allergic reaction. Regular doc referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and prescribed anti-seizure and anti-depressant. Had MRI and EEG. Tests showed nothing. So now I am not sure what to do, I am 23 and can't live the rest of my life like this. The pain wakes me up at night and I have very bad head aches. What is the next step to take? Any similar stories?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had stayed away from cell phones for a good few years because of ear pain and head pressing and overall weird feelings in my head. Now, very recently I re-started using the cell phone only for written messages and voice out loud. I have been getting trigeminal neuralgia pain since then. This is my first search about this.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I do have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have the same symptons you have and I have researched this many people have unneccesary procedures done on their teeth thinking its that. I would recommend before you undergo the root canal seeing a Neurologist and having them do a MRI they will be able to see if its the Trigeminal Neuralgia by this test. I hope this helps, I know how frustrating this can be and also how painful it is. Please let me know what happens.
Avatar f tn has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?
335728 tn?1331414412 I have MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia and I recently took a long trip on an airplane (8 hours). When the plane was descending every time (5 landings) I had an excrutiating pain in my right side of my cheek which subsided once the plane had landed. I am wondering if this could be a sinus problem or if it could be trigeminal neuralgia? I have no other symptoms of sinus problems...i.e. feeling congested, runny nose. I have CÖPD and Asthma as well but they are under control with medication.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
404715 tn?1233829631 Not having any doctors here to help me I went out of town to an emergency where they then put me on tegretol and told me I most likley have trigeminal neuralgia and set up an appointment with a neurologist.I was on tegretol for two weeks and waiting to go to my neurologist appointment but the pain was still unbearable so I went to the emergency in my city where they changed my meds and put me on neurotin which took a week to work and most of the pain is gone.

Avatar n tn These symptoms are pointing towards trigeminal neuralgia, which is a nerve disorder causing a stabbing or electric shock like pain in parts of face. This can affect part of or all of face and surface of eye. Trigeminal neuralgia may be caused by multiple sclerosis and pressure on the trigeminal nerve from a swollen blood vessel or tumor.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn I have what is called Paratrigeminal Neuralgia and it is related to Trigeminal Neuralgia which this could be related to. I am also thinking that it could be a paresthesia which is caused by nerves in your face. I think this is something worth mentioning to your neuro next time you see one.
Avatar n tn I went to an endodontists who drilled into a tooth that felt to be most likely cause of the pain. He found infection and started a root canal but insisted that I had trigeminal neuralgia and would not finish the root canal until I took Tegretol. My internists and I did not think my symptoms consistent with trigeminal neuralgia. I went to another endodontists who finished the root canal I think finding another root of the tooth. He did not feel I had trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn Carbamazepine (Tegretol) was first used to treat trigeminal neuralgia in the 1990s. Because of its success in treating that painful condition (which is very difficult to treat), it was then used to treat all kinds of neuropathic pain. While it may be useful, there are more modern medications that may help if you have a neuropathic pain problem -- for instance, Neurontin (gabapentin) and Lyrica (pregabalin).
Avatar n tn My mom has trigeminal neuralgia, it's from a tumor on the back of her head under her skull. It's intertwined in her nerves. The only thing that remotely helps her is seizure meds. It takes the edge off off the pains in her face. Good luck and get an MRI asap!
Avatar n tn my son developed trigeminal neuralgia after a dental procedure. he is presently on medication for it. he is 28 years old and what is research showing for future care.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
