Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.
Avatar m tn With MS, the most common jaw-area complaint is trigeminal neuralgia, though this is characterised by pain rather than a chattering as it involves the trigeminal nerve. I did feel my teeth chattering yesterday, but that's because it hit below zero here!
1385138 tn?1279928966 The pain seems to travel along the trigeminal nerve yet trigeminal neuralgia is ruled out. It also seems to travel along the temporal artery and that side hit the windshield. The airbag did misalign my jaw with a great impact. Having so many sites in pain with the swelling and even generates to clavicl and end of deltoid muscle down my right arm when off epitol. I am so tired of being told I am unusual and symptoms bizarre.

Avatar n tn The symptoms you are describing bear resemblance to few possibilities like facial nerve palsy, trigeminal neuralgia MPDS( myofacial pain dysfunction) and then TMJ disorder due to strenuous opening of mouth for long sittings of RCT.

Avatar f tn Last week I started having very intense pain in one of my eyes and went to the eye dr. who thinks I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. For the last two days I noticed my eyelid drooping when my eye was hurting really bad. My question is, can a droopy eyelid be associated with Trigeminal Neuralgia or could this be something else? I plan on following up with my neurologist but does this sound like something I should be really worried about?
Avatar f tn Kelly, while this could be a flare in dental problems it could also be a brief episode of trigeminal neuralgia. From what I know you would rather have a root canal than TN, which is so painful that it has been nicknamed "the suicide pain." I'm glad you're feeling better- I hope it continues.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
388376 tn?1302011418 it is going on two weeks and I am about to lose my mind....my doctor has diagnosed it as Trigeminal Neuralgia and has put me on a regime of cortisone for the next 12 days with hopes that it will reduce the numbness...Have you had any luck so far????? 756505 tn?1233857697 All this to say--yes, I have what I believe to be BILATERAL trigeminal-nerve symptoms (in my case I would not call it neuralgia except for the first episode and a handful of others, because MOST of this has been painless), starting with other symptoms at age 42. I have not had shocks in my tongue.
Avatar f tn I am taking medication for Trigeminal Neuralgia and am wondering it the medication is causing this or is it a symptom of whatever is causing the Neuralgia? It seems like i almost have to 'peel' my mouth from the roof of my mouth - not just at night, but more 'suction' occurs then rather than during the daytime when it occurs.
Avatar n tn Hi 1987 Cry1987.. does this mean that you're twenty-one and in a lot of pain.. I'm so sorry you're going through this . It does sound like it could be trigeminal neuralgia(sp)..There is a vast amount of info on the web about this and many of the forum members have gone through TN, myself included .. Its not fun Are you see a neuro , has he/she prescribed anything for it. You could also have something else , like TMJ , you really need to have this looked at.
Avatar f tn Hi all, small question for you, i had no symptoms for 5 months, which was wonderful, and then i got this urinary infection , and the next thing i knew i had severe face pain, particularly in my nose, where it feels lie i have been bashed in the face with a pan, i have buzzing in my ears, and just a general tightness in my neck and shoulders, i got my eyebrows tattooed also, could this have caused trigeminal neuralgia ? or would it have been the infection, ?
Avatar n tn It has a similar pain sensation as that of trigeminal neuralgia but in a different location. This type of neuralgia is rare and is usually one sided. The pain can be felt in the throat, tonsillar region, back of the tongue (not front), and even the ear and neck. The pain can be triggered by various activities such as laughing, chewing, coughing, speaking, etc. The treatment is similar to that of trigeminal neuralgia. Medicines such as carbamazepine and phenytoin have had some success.
Avatar n tn - painful sensation of pinching in ear when talking (seems to be triggered when closing mouth) that becomes progressively worse until it becomes debilitating - very unpleasant burning/tingling sensation from the ear to base of tongue and along bottom/side of tongue triggered by sitting, bending head forward (cooking, reading), using computer, lifting weights (seems to be tension in neck that triggers it) - some ache symptoms left side: - some ache in the jaw when talking (very minor compared t
