Hi, my name is Keith and I was diagnosed with TN a few years ago, but I think I've had it most of my life. I don't have the typical facial pain, but have it in the back of my head, and the top of my head feels like it's sunburned all the time. I don't know what triggers the pain, but the sun and the heat intensifies it. Even a little bit of wind, or just touching my hair causes pain. My left eye is also tired a lot of the time. Does anyone else have these symptoms?
has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?
Have had minmal sleep 2 - 3 hours per night for four years, have had facial pain for a year and a half that has increased in intensity and frequency have had neck and back pain which they said was from stress and posture, physical therapy has helped a little. Am extremely fatiqued to the point where I can barely function at work and am not functioning at all at home, not even things i enjoy.
I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side.
I have a recent dx of Trigeminal Neuralgia from Primary Care and have been referred to Neurology for further evaluation. The pain distribution is unilateral and follows the sensory distribution of cranial nerve V at the maxillary area. History of previous trauma (neuroplasia) dates to 1997, though asymptomatic to current presentation. There is no prior history of TMJ, aneurysms, tumors or other common precipitants. I am 61 years old, consistent with typical onset.
I have been living with trigeminal neuralgia since 2004 when it was first diagnosed. I am taking carbamazepine, occasional lamotrigine and have recently been advised by my neurologist to add pregabalin, 2 daily. At present, my TN has shifted from the usual position from the left side of my face and down the left side of my nose to a new and very painful path from the scalp (front forehead) and down the left side of my nose. I cannot bear to touch my scalp without bringing on a spasm.
Hi all, small question for you, i had no symptoms for 5 months, which was wonderful, and then i got this urinary infection , and the next thing i knew i had severe face pain, particularly in my nose, where it feels lie i have been bashed in the face with a pan, i have buzzing in my ears, and just a general tightness in my neck and shoulders,
i got my eyebrows tattooed also, could this have caused trigeminal neuralgia ? or would it have been the infection, ?
Hi, About a year ago, I suddenly developed shooting pains in the front of my face, above my upper front teeth. I went to the dentist, who x-rayed me, and said I had an abscess, above my left upper 1 tooth. He did root canal treatment, but could not find anything, the pain did not go away, and after several root canals, he referred me to a consultant for an apicectomy. When the operation was done, as he drilled through the bone, he said there was lots of pus to drain away.
Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you

Would someone who has Trigeminal Neuralgia please help me out with the progression of this condition. For about a week now - I have numbness above my left eye that seems to have gotten worse everyday - first my eyebrow, then my forehead and now my skull. I have a low grade headache at times and when I lift my eyebrow, pain shoots up my forehead and skull, although not intense pain. I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI.
Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Has your mother seen a Neurologist for evaluation? I had Trigeminal Neuralgia after shingles on my face, and the pain is worse than anything I've ever felt before. She definately needs to be checked out.

I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.

There are some things that you can do to minimize the frequency and intensity of TN attacks:
Apply ice packs or any readily available source of cold to the area of pain. Cold often numbs the area and will reduce the pain.[citation needed]
Get adequate rest in normal rest cycles.
Manage your stress well and keep stress levels low.
I have been looking for answers for awhile. I believe that my symptoms point to Trigeminal Neuralgia. I for the last several months have had an odd sensation in my face. I get a tingling feeling on my jawline, around my mouth, around my nose. I have this constant dead'nd feeling in my forehead that will not go away. It almost feels like my nerves in my forehead are swollen. I will get a stabbing headache that originates from the bump on the back of my head to my eyebrows.
For those of you with trigeminal neuralgia, would you mind me asking you what it feels like? I have been assuming, for a while, that what I have in my face is bilateral trigeminal neurlagia. But, perhaps I'm wrong.
