Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia ophthalmic branch

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia may be presented with typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.

Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Therefore, they are hardly interlinked.

Avatar n tn Your symptoms may be most likely due to trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve).

Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Avatar f tn It could be, but would be atypical and not very likely. The first branch of the trigeminal nerve innervates the forehead and surface of the eye. The second branch cover the upper teeth, the upper lip, part of the nose and part of the cheek. The third branch is the lower jaw, lower teeth and part of the tongue. There is a type of headache called a "Cluster headache" that is typically described as being "behind the eye.
Avatar f tn Chronic fatigue syndrome, ophthalmic migraine, refractive errors of the eye, sleep disturbances (despite your feeling sleepy), hypothyroidism, temporal arteritis, pinched trigeminal nerve (trigeminal neuralgia) are a few possibilities. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar f tn On the other hand, this may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial numbness extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. .
405614 tn?1329144114 Yesterday my trigeminal neuralgia flared up. It's been a while, thank heavens! It's always been on my upper left jaw area; for years I thought it was a dental issue, even had a unnecessary crown put on years ago. Anyway, this time the pain isn't limited to it's usual area. It's still on the left side, but it extends up over my forehead. I have an area on my scalp that is too painful to touch; I had a hard time getting to sleep last night because of it.
Avatar n tn I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
Avatar m tn I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain. Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..
Avatar m tn My guess is that it is a nerve (possibly anterior ethmoid nerve) that gets irritated and then it spreads (to the ophthalmic nerve branch possibly) causing the other pains. Contact headache (anterior ethmoid neuralgia) seems like a possible diagnosis, but I don't see much information on it. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
335728 tn?1331414412 Hi, Paratrigeminal neuralgia is characterized by severe unilateral facial pain and headache in the distribution of the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve in combination with ipsilateral oculosympathetic palsy or Horner syndrome. You should do basic blood investigations including antinuclear antibody,MRI and MRA brain to rule out intracranial pathology.Avoid alcohol.Depending on overall work up for your case steroids may be helpful to relieve pain.
1045086 tn?1332126422 Several months back someone posted a link to a chart about trigeminal neuralgia. It listed different variants, the characteristic pain traits of each, and what branch of the nerve covered each area/type. I think there was a brief questionnaire to help determine what type you might have. I can't remember who posted the link or the question. Anybody else remember anything to help me search it out?
