trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn I have trigeminal & geniculate neuralgia & had microvascular decompression surgery 10/09 w/ a neurosurgeon & ENT MD. My surgery was abnormal, they were unable to decompress the 7th nerve due to massive amounts of extra &abnormal blood vessels wrapped around it. The 5th nerve wss decompressed &it controlled/allievated my trigeminal symptoms for 6 mo. I recommend finding an experienced surgeon & get MVD, this diagnosis is so painful even only 6 mo of remission was worth it.

Avatar m tn I just had a nerve block procedure done for my trigeminal neuralgia pain in my face. My face was sore but after 3 days, the pain in my face became more painful and I felt more electrical current shooting onto my lower teeth area. Why does it seem like my facial pain just got worse after this procedure.
Avatar n tn I have a recent dx of Trigeminal Neuralgia from Primary Care and have been referred to Neurology for further evaluation. The pain distribution is unilateral and follows the sensory distribution of cranial nerve V at the maxillary area. History of previous trauma (neuroplasia) dates to 1997, though asymptomatic to current presentation. There is no prior history of TMJ, aneurysms, tumors or other common precipitants. I am 61 years old, consistent with typical onset.

I would like to hear about natural elements I can explore. I have also developed multiple allergies to many foods and animals I did not have an issue with previously.
Avatar m tn It involves surgically opening the skull and exposing the nerve at brainstem, trigeminal neuralgia being treated by inserting a tiny sponge between the trigeminal nerve and superior cerebellar artery. you will need to undergo tests like blood tests electrocardiogram, chest x ray, sign consents, furnish details about allergies, medicines, anesthetic reactions, other preanesthetic precautions like stopping NSAIDs, blood thinners, stop smoking etc.

Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar f tn My father has this condition for last 15 years or so, He went to AIIMS and doctors said there is no cure. He started off losing the balance and then the situation got even worst rapidly. We saw a huge improvement in his condition, he now able to speak properly and can walk using a walker help.
347645 tn?1283220742 I have had trigeminal neuralgia for about 7 years. At first I had the alcohol/glycerin injection and that caused damage to my hearing. Then I went to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and had the MVD surgery which made my tongue feel like it's on fire. The schocks never completely went away however, it wasn't bad for two weeks. Then it came back worse than ever. After having the MVD surgery are there any options? The doctors say I will have to live with it.
Avatar n tn I wasted thousands on a chiropractor. More on an acupuncturist.

Avatar n tn Ive had similar pain in my face. The watery eye and the fact that its all on one side points towards trigeminal neralgia.A regular doctor wont be able to help you,you need to be referred to a nerologist so they can confirm the nerve damage. In the mean time, make sure your getting plenty of b vitamins.Particullarly b-12.You can find it on almost all store shelves. The b vitamins build up over time and block some of the pain you feel.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar f tn I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar n tn Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) rarely occurs with sinusitis but it has been described. The persistent congestion and your severe headache suggest that, despite the "clear" sinus x-rays you may have sinusitis or an infection of the sinus that has extended beyond the sinus walls. That you are still ill suggests a possible infectious complication. You would do well to consult with an ENT specialist and have a CT scan of your sinuses and the adjacent areas. Good luck.
