When I initially read your post I thought of Trigeminal neuralgia (TN). I thought it was too coincidental to have the same condition posted almost back to back. Hoogy just posted a day or so ago on this forum with the same symptoms and diagnosis. You may want to check that thread and or share notes with Hoogy.
TN is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal or 5th cranial nerve, one of the largest nerves in the head.
has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?

I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.

What you are describing sounds so very terrifying and painful! Have they checked you for trigeminal neuralgia? That's what that sounds like to me (Im a nurse by the way). I hope you can find relief soon, as losing your vision is one of the worst things that can happen to someone.
For those of you with trigeminal neuralgia, would you mind me asking you what it feels like? I have been assuming, for a while, that what I have in my face is bilateral trigeminal neurlagia. But, perhaps I'm wrong.
I am currently getting many other treatments for my migraines which work fairly well. And currently my trigeminal neuralgia is down to a dull roar, but it was at pain levels of 10 at times. I took Trileptal which gave me the worst migraines that I have had. Had to stop it, but it took care of the terrible mouth pain. What about you?
I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin,colonzepam,baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain.

I developed Trigeminal Neuralgia 3 weeks after my first botox treatmemt (forehead, crowsfeet and frown lines) and 5 days after juvederm put into nasolabial folds, chin and lower cheek. Is it possible these treatments could have caused the TN? I have it on both sides and it is an aching pain. Started in one jaw then moved to all teeth, then a few weeks later into sinuses, and head bones, and now pain is in eye area and my entire face and head.
Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you

hi again....I looked this up on MAYOCLINIC.COM its referred to as TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA....it follows the branches of the trigeminal nerve...look at the site for more info.

The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. Yes, it could be a disk problem. It could also be a form of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I suffer from it. Pain is severe. My latest bought (Just getting Over) originated from the below the jaw/neck. Radiated to ear, teeth, cheek, eye and forehead. At 1st I thought it was an ear infection. There are 3 nerves (TRI-geminal) in the face that will cause different pain in different locations. Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) rarely occurs with sinusitis but it has been described. The persistent congestion and your severe headache suggest that, despite the "clear" sinus x-rays you may have sinusitis or an infection of the sinus that has extended beyond the sinus walls.
That you are still ill suggests a possible infectious complication. You would do well to consult with an ENT specialist and have a CT scan of your sinuses and the adjacent areas.
