Trigeminal neuralgia high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia high blood pressure

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with concussion with brief loss of conciousness. Whiplash, Straighting of cervical lordosis, high blood pressure, post concussion syndrom, post traumatich headache and migranes, occipital neuralgia... I am 7 months going on 8 months post accident.. I have had a pressure in my forehead (mainly right side) that never goes away but only varries in intensity its a pressure type aching feel.
Avatar n tn surgical techniques may be needed like cutting or destroying part of trigeminal nerve, surgery to remove a blood vessel or tumor that is putting pressure on the trigeminal nerve. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain. I'm a working physical therapist. I don't go back to my neurosurgeon for recheck for two more weeks. I need to work and return to my active life. Please advise if you think this could be the correct diagnosis or suggest ideas. Thank you so much!
645390 tn?1338555377 Have you started or increased your high blood pressure medicine while experiencing TN attacks? If so, did this have any impact on the TN attacks? Did they go away, become less acute, or get worse? I have TN and am experiencing significant attacks and have a theory as to why they occur in some "Atypical" cases such as mine and plan to find out if my theory is valid. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hello. For a few months my trigeminal nerve has been irritated. It's the first and second branch. I experience the electrical shock (more like a tickle) that I've experienced with Trigeminal Neuralgia but there's no pain. It seems to happen often when my head is tilted forward/down and that makes me wonder if it could be an issue with my cervical spine. I really don't have any unusual discomfort in my neck. I don't have headaches or sinus pressure or anything.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar f tn Severe facial and head pain can be due to trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, dental caries, fluid in ear, impacted wax in ear, boils in nose, high blood pressure and sinusitis. It can also be due to pinched cervical spinal nerves. See what has been missed while diagnosing. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) rarely occurs with sinusitis but it has been described. The persistent congestion and your severe headache suggest that, despite the "clear" sinus x-rays you may have sinusitis or an infection of the sinus that has extended beyond the sinus walls. That you are still ill suggests a possible infectious complication. You would do well to consult with an ENT specialist and have a CT scan of your sinuses and the adjacent areas. Good luck.
Avatar f tn if not get this done i would also have blood tests done for blood pressure and iron, your headaches sound like they are pressure headaches.
Avatar f tn From reading my info could this be trigeminal neuralgia or atypical trigeminal neuralgia, acute sinusitis, tinnitus, TMJ? Other than MRI are there any other procedures and scans that can be done to get a better look at my sinuses and internal ear. Can wisdom teeth cause these symptoms? My dentist recommends I extract all 4 wisdom tooth, can these extractions cause my symptom to increase.?
Avatar f tn It could be TMJ. Can also be high blood pressure or precursor to migraines. Hope they find out what it is for sure. Best of luck to you.
335728 tn?1331414412 I have MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia and I recently took a long trip on an airplane (8 hours). When the plane was descending every time (5 landings) I had an excrutiating pain in my right side of my cheek which subsided once the plane had landed. I am wondering if this could be a sinus problem or if it could be trigeminal neuralgia? I have no other symptoms of sinus problems...i.e. feeling congested, runny nose. I have CÖPD and Asthma as well but they are under control with medication.
Avatar f tn I‘ve been having very recent neurological symptoms and no diagnosis has been given yet despite several tests and dr appointments. Trigeminal neuralgia is a diagnosis being considered by my doctor but my head pain is mild and not excruciating like it's typically described. I also have slight limb weakness on my left side that began shortly after the temporal and head pain which from what I understand wouldn't be due to trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar n tn s Disease, migraine headaches, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Though they are of no immediate threat, all these causes, and the presence of ischemic changes can be a risk factor for future stroke. Hence, prevention methods should include a healthy lifestyle, and a combination of diet, exercise, and medicines. Please discuss with your treating doctors. Take care!
2047903 tn?1330187549 My neuro ordered the typical blood tests for the disorders that mimic MS: lupus, Lyme's, B12, sarcoidosis etc. All have come back negative. So I guess the UBOs in my periventricular and deep white matter, subcortical, as well as the brainstem and cerebellum are a mystery. Today is the day I " up" my dose of Trileptal to get relief from this trigeminal neuralgia. Looks like a groggy weekend is ahead!I just wish I had some closure on what is going on right now.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed a few months ago with trigeminal neuralgia and am wondering if anyone else has experienced symptoms like lazy eye and high heart rate? Am worried because I haven't seen anyone mention these symptoms on any other site.
Avatar n tn However, I had the same symptoms you were having and was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Its where one or more of the three main nerves in your face cause nerve pain, or neuralgia. The first nerve lays across the eyebrows, the second lays across your cheek bones and the third nerve lays across the chin. My doctor put me on Lyrica and Klonopin and it seems to help a little, although the pain does intensify and the pain medication does not work for it since it is nerve pain.
Avatar n tn It is a sharp pain, like a knife jabbing me, and lasts a few seconds. Could this be from high blood pressure? The doctor has been trying to control it for months, but only in the last few days has it been normal, now that they put me on HCTC. I am on metoprolol 100 mgs twice a day, and captopril 50 in the AM, 25 in in the after noon, and 75 mgs in the evening. That wasn't helping, so they added HCTC. I remember years ago having the same kind of pain, but in a different spot.
Avatar f tn has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... What do you suppose I do next. Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn She said from the pains I was describing (shooting pain around my right eye and into my head, as well as pressure on the sides of my head), that it sounded like trigeminal neuralgia (which is caused by a virus, such as a cold sore). I had an MRI and an MRA, which came back clear, thank god, but that also discredits the trigeminal neuralgia (apparently something would have shown up on the MRA from that). I went for a follow up and told her that I am still feeling really tired.
404715 tn?1233829631 Not having any doctors here to help me I went out of town to an emergency where they then put me on tegretol and told me I most likley have trigeminal neuralgia and set up an appointment with a neurologist.I was on tegretol for two weeks and waiting to go to my neurologist appointment but the pain was still unbearable so I went to the emergency in my city where they changed my meds and put me on neurotin which took a week to work and most of the pain is gone.
Avatar n tn You need to be investigated for trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis. Trigeminal neuralgia is a nerve disorder that causes a stabbing electric shock like pain in parts of face. Various possible causes are multiple sclerosis and pressure on the nerve from a swollen blood vessel. Pain may be triggered by touch, sounds, chewing and light touch on face. Certain blood tests, MRI brain and trigeminal reflex testing apart from a neurological examination are required.
1175164 tn?1274116632 I have had Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia for almost four years. I also have Anesthesia Dolorosa. I was wondering what everyone's triggers are. I seem to have some that are not "textbook" like you read everywhere. For instance, I find that if I am anywhere with a lot of noise or external stimulation, I get triggered. Please share what you experience. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
