Hi neuralgia--yes, the connections and overlap between fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders, the connections with stress, etc. are interesting (and confusing). I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain. Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..

I have what is called Paratrigeminal Neuralgia and it is related to Trigeminal Neuralgia which this could be related to. I am also thinking that it could be a paresthesia which is caused by nerves in your face. I think this is something worth mentioning to your neuro next time you see one.

I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia and am currently taking BACLOFEN to help with the pain. I was treated with the Gamma Knife about a year ago without success. A friend also had TN and was treated with an alcohol shot to the face that had to be repeated about 4 weeks later. That was over 10 years ago and he has had NO pain since. I can find only passing references to the alcohol shot to the face. My question is where can I go to get this alcohol shot to the face?

I have bilateral trigeminal and occipital neuraligia. I have been told this is uncommon to have both of these conditions and have each of them on both sides. What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.

hi I have those symptoms and I have trigeminal neuralgia. It affects the 3 nerves in your face and shoots unbearable pain into ur face, ear, throat and scalp. I take Carbamazepine also known as Tegretol and it really helps. Anything from brushing your hair to brushing ur teeth can trigger the nerves to flare up. The pain seems to travel along the trigeminal nerve yet trigeminal neuralgia is ruled out. It also seems to travel along the temporal artery and that side hit the windshield. The airbag did misalign my jaw with a great impact. Having so many sites in pain with the swelling and even generates to clavicl and end of deltoid muscle down my right arm when off epitol. Not having any doctors here to help me I went out of town to an emergency where they then put me on tegretol and told me I most likley have trigeminal neuralgia and set up an appointment with a neurologist.I was on tegretol for two weeks and waiting to go to my neurologist appointment but the pain was still unbearable so I went to the emergency in my city where they changed my meds and put me on neurotin which took a week to work and most of the pain is gone.

In 1974 similar pain started on the left side of face the surgeon diognised as trigeminal neuralgia in the 2nd branch. since than I am on tegretol and gabapentin, both this medicine do control attack, with the help of remmissions i have managed to avoid surgery, as this would lead to my entire face being numb for ever. The pain has returned just last week, after 2 years remission. I started on tegretol 200mg 3 times a day and neurontin 300mg twice a day.

I have been suffering for 2-1/2 years with oral facial pain. It began on the left and is now bilateral. I get severe, constant pain in the upper gums, teeth, cheeks, temples, jaws, neck. At times there are sharp twinges, but mostly it is a deep, constant ache. I have had close to pain-free moments, but just when i think I'm cured, it flares up. I have had 2 diagnosis. TMJ with osteoarthritis of the jaw joints and cervical spine. The other diagnosis is from a neurologist.

I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.

All this to say--yes, I have what I believe to be BILATERAL trigeminal-nerve symptoms (in my case I would not call it neuralgia except for the first episode and a handful of others, because MOST of this has been painless), starting with other symptoms at age 42. I have not had shocks in my tongue.

My dentist told me that I am more likely to develop bilateral trigeminal neuralgia since I have it on the left side and have MS. Am I out of line by extending this possiblilty to include occipital neuralgia? My PCP saw me for a regular follow-up after the headaches, and from my descriptions she suggested it could be from tight muscles in the neck; I said that it felt like every muscle in my scalp had tightened up.
