Avatar n tn My son is 28 yrs old, is 6 foot tall, weighs 170lbs and is very healthy except he has a Triglyceride level of 1200, HDL 27 and cholesterol level of 229. We have the following conditions in our family: Heart disease, diabetes, stroke and thyroid problems.....
1029058 tn?1253539152 As you use fat reserves, LDL cholesterol is used to replace it and this then alters the ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol meaning there are less LDL to each HDL which is good.
212161 tn?1599427282 Forgot to add, you need to get your HDL up now, ask about Niacin. Also, exercise will help increase your HDL very effectively as well. Again, nice job!
Avatar n tn > Although it's unclear how, high triglycerides may contribute to hardening of the arteries I think that was a good point made by erijon - that the mechanism is not known looking at triglycerides is fairly recent, and might explain Tim Russert
Avatar n tn s a genetic thing. 2 of my brothers have the same problem. I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood. That is the fat that causes the plaque to form. The Niacin is a good supplement in treating this.
Avatar m tn Today we did the blood test for my husband and his TG is 519 mg/dl. Total Cholestrol is 208 mg/dl, LDL is 142 mg/dL and HDL is 34.42 mg/dl.His S. amylase is slightly elevated 112 U/l. Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates? is he developing hypothyroidism? how can he regulate his TG and TSH?
Avatar n tn High cholesterol runs in my family so even with diet and exercise my numbers are still a little high. I started getting heart palpitations a few years ago and after a lot of testing was told they were harmless PVC's/PAC's. Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned.
Avatar f tn If you get your TGL's under control, your numbers should be OK in total. Much depends on your LDL an HDL levels. The quickest way for you to cut your TGLs is to stop drinking. Alcohol metabolizes as sugar and increases TGLs. Stop drinking and your number should drop. Also, cut out all empty carbs such as breads and pastas as well.
Avatar m tn Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
529224 tn?1400648219 Ed34 and Chatty explain it well. I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.

237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar f tn I am 53 years old and some what active. I have several issues that I feel only would not cause me any concerns but, happening all at the same time cause me to ask questions. Cramps in legs, more so in calf of both legs, but worse in left leg. Cramps in both feet and all toes, at times causing the toes to curl under, mostly the two toes just next to the big toe. Cramps in the instep area also. Heat will sometimes help, the legs feel cold and achy. My wrists ache more than usual.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
Avatar m tn So back in November of 2008, I all of a sudden experienced strong palpitations from my heart everytime I ate solid food. Coupled by the fact that I could actually feel the sensation of my heart all of a sudden, my BP was around 160/100. Years later my BP is more or less controlled with Atenolol, HCTZ, and I'm taking Tricor for high triglycerides--not high cholesterol mind you, because my total, LDL and HDL are perfectly normal.
