Common Questions and Answers about Tricor and hdl

tricor

Avatar n tn After a while on Tricor alone, I found out by trial and error that I had to stop Tricor for a couple of weeks to be able to walk around without general muscle aches and fatigue, or "flu-like symptoms, and then I would take it for 8 - 10 days and have to stop again. Bottom line is that I can no longer tolerate Tricor, which drastically lowered my triglycerides from over 2000 to around 1000. Diet changes after a heart attack and stroke keep my triglycerides around 700.
Avatar n tn 61 VLDL 52 So I thought for sure eating plant based and exercise would help get these in line but apparently not. What can I do to lower the triglycerides and raise the HDL? I also have MVP if it matters. Oh and my ALT for my liver function a few years ago was like 91 which was due to the fatty liver now it IS 49 so it looks like the liver might be getting better, so what would still be causing the others to be out of whack. I am really concerned.
Avatar n tn My son is 28 yrs old, is 6 foot tall, weighs 170lbs and is very healthy except he has a Triglyceride level of 1200, HDL 27 and cholesterol level of 229. We have the following conditions in our family: Heart disease, diabetes, stroke and thyroid problems.....
1029058 tn?1253539152 As you use fat reserves, LDL cholesterol is used to replace it and this then alters the ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol meaning there are less LDL to each HDL which is good.
Avatar m tn I looked this up on the internet and found that it is called familial hypercholesterolemia. I was given Tricor and Lovastatin to control this. Now my cholesterol is in normal range.

Avatar n tn s a genetic thing. 2 of my brothers have the same problem. I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood. That is the fat that causes the plaque to form. The Niacin is a good supplement in treating this.
Avatar m tn Today we did the blood test for my husband and his TG is 519 mg/dl. Total Cholestrol is 208 mg/dl, LDL is 142 mg/dL and HDL is 34.42 mg/dl.His S. amylase is slightly elevated 112 U/l. Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates? is he developing hypothyroidism? how can he regulate his TG and TSH?
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
976897 tn?1379167602 I finally made a dent in my TGLs on my annual test last week. they had been running a few points plus or minus 300, once as high as 399. Last week, 195 with a TC of 158, LDL 79 and HDL 40 and a ratio of 4.2. I'll take it, it's not Ed good, but still good enough for me. Also, nice work Ed!
Avatar n tn High cholesterol runs in my family so even with diet and exercise my numbers are still a little high. I started getting heart palpitations a few years ago and after a lot of testing was told they were harmless PVC's/PAC's. Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned.
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.

529224 tn?1400648219 Ed34 and Chatty explain it well. I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.
237039 tn?1264258057 t think there would be any correlation between taking the Tricor and vasospams. Is it just coincidence and the fact that they have subsided is because of my diet and exercise? Or is it possible that there is somthing about the Tricor that has stopped them? Anyone know?
212161 tn?1599427282 has anyone or does anyone take this med and if so have you had any side affects thank you
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar n tn s the quality of the particles and not the count that matters. Many people with HDL counts as high as yours have HDL-3 particles that are very small and not as effective when binding to LDL. If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects.
Avatar m tn Welcome and thanks for your question. Your numbers are not really all that bad, everything looks good except your TGLs unless you have other risks for heart disease and a statin such as Tonact TG does not usually help lower TGLs. As you most likely know, your TGLs should be under 150. Normally a doctor will prescribe a fenofibrate like Tricor for TGLs, but I'm sure your doctor has weighed the risks and benefits for you in making his choice, but it may be worth asking him.
Avatar f tn My hair is very dry and brittle, which it never has been and the texture and nature has changed. (was very curly now just frizzy) The sking under all my fingernails starting at the nail bed has a very light fleshy color and as it nears the end of the finder has a red line that turns even a deeper red as the nail extends beyond the end of the finger. The end of the nail is white.
